this dudes always cryin about something and since becoming a heavyweight he hasn't given his fans the pleasure of seeing his skills put to use against a real heavyweight contender, let him retire f*** em this sport has enough loud mouth
cowards afraid to take a loss
I totally agree. This guy talks so much s.hit yet, what is his "legacy"? He has a title that he defends against bums. I'm not saying he's not good, but damn, I've never seen someone so delusional about his own worth (well, that's not true... there's a lot of athletes like that - but still, dude...)
Does he really think he'll be regarded as a "great one" if he retires with that crap resume?
I sincerely doubt Wlad is ducking Haye. Haye has no credibility. Unless Wlad comes out and says: "I don't want to fight David Haye", I will still give HIM the benefit of the doubt. Haye has done nothing that merits the benefit of the doubt. And I, for one, I'm shocked at the comments here saying that Wlad Klitschko is afraid of David Haye.
WTF kind of crap is this article? Why all the mentions of Harry Potter? I mean, yeah, we get it, he likes Harry Potter, why mention it 34 times? It's hilarious but stupid at the same time.
BTW, BoxingScene, when are you planning on changing this ugly ass design?
Lewis' recent interview was the VERY FIRST time that he has said ANYTHING positive about the Klitschkos. It seems that posters' memories are very short. Well mine isn't. Until last week, because he was hired as the "analyst", be bad-muuthed the Klitschko's every single time he could, and it's on record that he phoned EVERY opponent and OFFERED to help them to beat the Klitschko's.
His hatred (and fear) of Vitaly Klitschko is well known, and he is really a mean-spirited jealous creature, not a sportsman at all. In the interview, you may have noticed that he compared Solis' (Or Haye"s)style and resume to his own, a thing which he ALWAYS manages to bring in, talking about himself, and he good he was........
"He reminds me of myself, when I won (here follows a list of titles)"....... are his favourite words
In actual fact, all he can tell Haye is to "get yourself bashed around, and then hit Klitschko with the glancing side of your glove, the laced part, hope to cut him, then keep rubbing your head into it". In the meantime take a hell of a pounding and also have a stupid doctor and foolish ref handy" ........
Thank you! Reading other posters here one could be forgiven for thinking that Lennox Lewis ACTUALLY beat a Klitschko. Lennox Lewis got his ass handed to him by Vitali and was fortunate that a freak punch opened up that nasty cut. Oh man, I'm not a true Klitschko fan because I don't really give a damn about the HW division, but when Wlad and Haye get it on, I'll be the biggest Wlad supporter ever. I want to see Haye knocked down and unable to continue.
I'm neither a PBF or a Pacquiao fan, but I think that there are fishy things here on both sides. I honestly do think PBF doesn't want to fight Pacquiao. I think he could beat him, but maybe after the second round he had against Mosley, he doesn't want to put himself in the position of being vulnerable and having a great finisher like Pac on the other side.
On the other hand, I do think it's suspicious that Pacquiao has put up so much resistance to the testing. Now, I can understand superstitions. I can. Especially in sports which is such a fertile terrain for them. But in that case Roach should be the one stepping up here and working with Pacquiao the same way he has done so many other times.
Honestly, I think all these fights will happen eventually. It's just that they will happen when Bob Arum thinks they will make him the most money. You really can't stress enough how much of a business this sport is. Yes, every sport is a business, but boxing is possibly one of the sports that suffers the most because of the business side. It basically exists only insofar as it makes business sense for promoters. Bob Arum has to know that the longer Caballero keeps calling out both Gamboa and Lopez, the more name-recognition he'll get. In Lopez's case specifically, there will come a point when PR fans will be willing to shell out the 50 bucks to see Lopez shut Caballero up (if he can, which I think he can).
It's all really annoying, but unfortunately that's how the sport works. If there is no overhaul, no reform, that's what we are stuck with unless we stop buying these bitch ass tomato can fights and just plain and simple boycott until we get the fights we want to see.
I have never seen so many updates from a fight camp! it's like they are trying to convince us that manny is so nice and gon put da smackdown on Cotto!
Are they trying to convince us or themselves...anyhow, i'm starting to get just as tired of Ariza as i am of Roach. I see why michale Koncz be trying to get them out of there!
I think they ARE trying to convince themselves. I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but Pac's updates have a pattern. First they say: "He looks exceptional" or some other superlative adjective. Then, someone says "he didn't look so good last time, but now, amazing". Then we get another new update where they say: "Wow, this time he looks superhuman...he didn't look all that well in last sparring session, but NOW, WOW!". This is at least the third time I've read in one of these "Pac is god" updates that the previous sparring session maybe wasn't as good as they had said before.
If Mayweather is serious about fighting again and he continues to -let's say ignore - a fight with Manny Pacquiao, why doesn't he fight Miguel Cotto? Cotto is a credible opponent and he could probably beat him like he beat Mosley. That would be a big fight, make lots of money, and would be a legitimate fight.
I just read on ESPN that Top Rank's pulling out completely so the Quintana/Clottey fight is off as well.
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4583115
We all agree that Margarito could have continued. No dobut, but look what happened when he continued vs a lopsided Pacroid match. Stopping the fight > personal permanent injury
Exactly. This is what the dumbass doesn't understand. He wasn't going to win. Cotto wasn't winded. This wasn't the first fight. Cotto was never going to let Margarito get any momentum. He FINALLY learned how to hold and was doing it like he'd been doing it for years. Every time he pushed Margarito back he ripped him with some combinations to that eye. Who is Margarito kidding?
Plus, as always, that statement from Diaz is taken out of context. Diaz did in fact say this, but the last sentence he said was: "Margarito never would've made it to the 12 round." http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nota/_/id/1428820/la-transformacion-fisica-de-miguel-cotto
Shit, I know if there's a few grains of sand in my sneaker when I put it on. Dont tell me Margarito didnt know what the fuk was in his wraps!
U dont punch for a living, and now know that your wraps feel different all of a sudden!
Best comment ever on this topic. I agree 100%.
I think he's either doing because a) Freddie Roach is talking mad shit, and he's responding (not like anyone wants to hear what joe santiago has to say) b) it's his biggest fight ever and he wants to milk it as much as he can c) it's the first time he's been written off to lose (with the general public already talking about a pac/pbf showdown) or d) All of the above
Whatever the reason you're right, he's gonna look stupid if he loses.. If Pac loses the only one eating their words is roach, so Pac looks good either way
I am a little surprised by Cotto's "chattiness" this time around. However, I can understand it because he's being treated as a "journeyman" by many, many people. I don't know if you remember, but before this fight was actually inked, people from Pacquiao's camp (not Pac himself though) were basically saying that Cotto was garbage. I remember Pac's manager saying that he wanted Pac to fight Cotto because Cotto was one-dimensional like Ricky Hatton... I think this is why Cotto has fired back and called Hatton overrated...poor Hatton got caught in the crossfire hehe. Also, I remember that before the Clottey fight Pac's camp insisted that Miguel should come down to 142-143 and after the Clottey fight they got dismissive and said: "oh fine, we'll give it to you at 145" as if saying that they were not scared of him anymore.
Also, as many of you know, Cotto is not as popular as Trinidad was and many people in Puerto Rico don't like Cotto because he's always quiet, shies away from the spotlight and, in general, is not a people person. Many Puerto Rican's are hoping Cotto will lose and they say awful things about him in the comments sections. That, apart from the fact that he's the underdog for the first time in a long time, maybe has him thinking that he's not appreciated for his accomplishments and they're treating him as a stepping stone.
And besides, in the end, he's not talking "mad shit" as someone said before... he just said he knows Pac's weaknesses too and he's working hard.
I agree with Palacios but I am a little surprised that the boxing media hasn't really called this a robbery. In fact, a Puerto Rican newspaper had it 116-112 for Diablo, which is beyond comprehension if you ask me.
Most people I've read have said that Palacios didn't do enough. I can only agree with that statement if you add: "to beat a champion in his hometown". I think if the fight had been anywhere else, Palacios would have won. The fight was slow and boring, but if Palacios did little, Diablo did almost nothing. I do think if Palacios wanted to win in someone else's hometown, he should've kept the foot on the pedal all fight long. But I think that if they rematch outside of Europe, Palacios will win.
what i really wanna know is WTF was arum thinking when he matched him up against a guy with 12 losses? theres no win win here. u win u beat a bum, u lose u can kiss everything goodbye. u win ugly,& everyones gonna be on ur ass. this is what happens when u average about 2 rounds per pro fight= not that much pro experience. he needs a better corner, to move up in weight so he doesnt have any more problems making weight & a little more experience before we start hyping him again. maybe im just mad & disappointed but i have to keep it real...i still think that he can beat caballero with ease, but his complete ring smart aint there yet.
I agree with this completely.
I must say, every day I read something different, even contradictory, regarding this fight. I'm not sure, anymore, where the comments are coming from. A few days ago I read that Roach was so impressed with Pacquiao's form and their training camp so far that he was predicting a KO... now he's back to bitching about Pac's unruliness?
I've read from other fans that this seems to be the normal pattern with Roach... always like this? So contradictory from one day to the next? I realize he's a glory hound, but God just shut up already! haha
I agree with the part that says that JMM's strategy is being laid out for all to see.. what's up with that? They shouldn't be talking about that on camera... they should probably have asked HBO to leave like Mayweather did.
I really want Marquez to win this fight, but every time I compare speed in this 24/7, I think it won't be possible. We'll see.
This should be done for Pacquiao/Cotto instead. Obviously it's two different companies, so there's no control over that, but in reality Cotto/Pac will be a lot more thrilling and, hence, would do a lot of good to the sport.
I actually think it will sell better than Pac-Cotto.
Well, at least we know it's definitely not going to do as well as Cotto/Pac in terms of actual ticket sales. Cotto/Pac was almost sold out after a few days of selling and there are still tickets in every category for PBF/JMM.
I have to say, I am honestly wondering which fight some people were watching. There was no "Yuri was coming on" or no "Yuri was owning", whatsoever in this fight. This was a one sided affair from beginning to end, with a little bit of a push by Yuri in round 4. He got outboxed and I think would've gotten ko'd without the knee injury. Cotto's punches were rocking him from the start. Did you not see the few times Yuri hanged on to the ropes after a Cotto punch? Even Cotto's jabs were hurting him. I am amazed and perplexed that there is any kind of controversy regarding this fight. The only controversy here is that Mercante should've stopped this fight himself after he saw Foreman wobbling. Then Miguel would've won the fight something like 6-1.
imo, it's partly because of lack of good sound tracks.
are you reading this 24/7 people?
and next time don't put 24/7 before the fighters names, it's always about the fighers.
This is a cultural appreciation. I, for one, found the soundtrack to be quite good. These fighters shouldn't have American music in their backgrounds... and Cotto, for example, listens to a lot of "salsa gorda" (old school salsa) and this was perfect... the Aguanile of Hector Lavoe while they presented him was a nice touch.
I liked the episode. I know it's not flashy like those of Mayweather, but it seems to me more culturally aware and revealing.
The crazy part is, he didn't. Just like Dirrell didn't beat Froch, just like Pascal didn't beat Froch. At the minute everybody is talking about him. That can only be a good thing.
I hope Froch KO's Kessler, then he may get an ounce of respect around here.
He doesn't deserve respect. He's a limited fighter who has good power: nothing more. He's been exposed already, but he'll be destroyed soon enough.
None whatsoever.
Cotto will win.
So Arum can stop with the wet dreams about Clottey-Foreman
I've noticed this too. I keep wondering why Miguel re3-signed with him for two years. I'm guessing de la Hoya didn't offer him anything worthwhile when they went golfing last year. But yeah, the disrespect is pretty noticeable.
cotto's entrace was AWESOME :boxing:
Aguanileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Aaaaaaaaguaaaaaaaniiiiiiileeeeeeeeeee...
Santo Dios...
Santo Fuerte...
Santo inmortal...
Aguanile, aguanile mai mai
aguanile, aguanile mai mai.
I agree, it was really powerful.
Also, I'm not too concerned about the first episode being more about Pacquiao. # 1 There was more drama there. # 2 In JMM/PBF 24/7 they alternated the focus of the episodes, so they'll probably do that here too.
He's been ducking JR for 2 years now! This man is a total coward. He should just go back to riding bicycles full-time, at least then he won't need to duck JR anymore.
Um... you're kidding right? Please tell me this is some internal joke I'm missing, because if you're actually serious, you need to vacate all boxing forums, right now. And take that other moron with you... the one that's echoing your stupidity.
Very impressive win, Ward is the future of boxing :headbang:
If Ward is the future of boxing, I'm not sure I want to watch.
To the person who asked what's the problem with Ward not going out of Oakland, well, I'm not sure if you watched the first Fight 360, but the first thing Ward's promoter says is: "Ward doesn't travel". As such, they created his schedule around him and Oakland. While everybody else has had to go outside of their COUNTRY, Ward hasn't even ventured outside of Oakland. Apparently he is going to Dirrell's backyard...that's good, but, imo, not enough. Everybody else went to Europe to fight, and all the Europeans have gone to the States.
There are many reasons I dislike Ward. However, I'm not sure who can beat him... he's awkward, dirty and *cringe* talented. I hope someone beats the snot out of him soon, though I don't see it.
They did before last night, they dont want to see him fight Cab now, thats why they have avoided this thread.
Not true at all. I actually want him to fight Caballero more now than before... I think sports fans in general have a very bad tendency to rip an athlete/a team to pieces based on their last bad performance. Besides, I don't even think last night's performance was all that bad. He did not have the right game plan, but his skills and heart are undeniable. With a little more discipline he will definitely be a force and that starts with a tough fight for Caballero's titles.
The ref DID NOT do a good job. It was ridiculous, dangerous and needless to let this fight go on. Why? Did people really get such a hard on by watching Cotto's left hook drop a man who could barely stand up? Cotto had won that fight regardless. It just would've gone to the scorecards. After the 7th, there was NOTHING, NOTHING Yuri Foreman could do to win the fight. He has no power, he was losing on the scorecards, and couldn't move out of harm's way. What was the point of letting it continue? I fail to see even the entertainment value unless you are a sadist.
As a side note, I have to say this is a good read, but I was bothered by the comment that Cotto's ring entrance was "nothing worth noting". The writer is obviously very culturally insensitive. Hector Lavoe is one of Puerto Rico's (and Latin America's) most famous and most followed salsa singers. You may not like Salsa, like I don't like Mariachi music or Country music, but to say it is "nothing worth noting" is degrading and insensitive. "Aguanile", the song that was playing when Cotto came out, is one of Lavoe's greatest hits and, if you like salsa, is quite an amazing song.
Well, now Juanma is going to need a new dance partner... you heard it here first. Marquez vs. Lopez is either going to be suspended or cancelled. Marquez has an innjury in his thumb.
People do not think of staph infection as serious, Kelly obviously thought this way. They usuaully do not realize the severity of the situation until they are about to get their limbs amputated.
The photos they showed of Pavlik's hand in the fight presser were pretty ugly. I think his condition is serious and he really shouldn't be thinking about fighting until it's completely healed. Once he gets clearance, THEN start negotiations for a fight.
Mosley is washed up, old and a leftover by Lil floyd. These are just few comments by the prospective detainee fans when Pac knocks him out. Watch..
I'm no Mayweather fan by any stretch of the imagination, but these are legitimate concerns: Mosley IS old (he's aged tremendously since the Margarito fight) and he is washed up. He couldn't even beat Sergio Mora for crying out loud!
This is a horrible, horrible fight. Mosley should not be fighting anymore... Naazim Richardson should walk away from Mosley and not be a part of this fiasco.
