Yup--this is what is meant by "A" side. Maidana's team should've bowed their backs when Floyd sprung this on them on the eve of the first fight. Floyd would've looked weak, and the hate would've made a future fight massive. So, it's technically maidana's team at fault here.
This is the United States of amnesia. People forget that Floyd has done tons of shady ****. Did he school Gatti? Yes. But go back and watch the first round. The ref clearly yells "stop punching", both fighters stop, and Floyd takes a full force punch at a completely unprotected Gatti. Go back and watch it again. That type of full-force, unseen punch is a game-changer at this level ("but it's pruhtek yoself at aw times, Larry", and blah, blah (Floyd knew what he was doing))
Floyd used to keep two or three fighters up in the air, and drag his selection out until less than two months before the fight date.
He knew he was giving them far less time to get ready for the biggest fight of their life.
Completely unprofessional nonsense with Marquez.
Not fighting manny in '09 when the drumbeat was loudest.
Strategically smart? Sure.
Shady as ****, and deserving of ridicule from people who prefer a fair contest? Yup.
Amen brother, those are the reasons why I won't put Floyd in top 10 of GOAT discussions. Best fighter of our era, no doubt. Ridiculously talented without question. But those sissy ass moves by him first with Marquez, then by "delaying" the fight with Pac after he was knocking guys out left and right and paying 1.5 mil to madiana.
Floyd played the fight game well knowing that 10, 15 years from now peeps will most likely forget all this, but he didn't deceive me and most educated boxing fans
Floyd can't keep GGG out of his mouth. All talk but no action. He knows GGG would walk right through him. GGG would show no respect to Floyd or his punches. Shame it won't happen because I would of enjoyed the beat down.
Exactly, anybody who doesn't believe this will happen is a GGG hater or doesn't know boxing. Yeah Floyd said GGG is straight up and down and no special effects. But you can't effectively cut off the ring without pressuring and being straight up and down. All while taking 2 or 3 shots to deliver one power shot because you know you have heavy hands.
That's his special effect, cutting off the ring and having an GRANITE chin
According to ESPN.com, however, Golden Boy is willing to pitch an unspecified “Hail Mary” idea for deal that they’re in the process of sending to Golovkin.
If this works, I'll give GGG props, but mayneeee, he's playing with fire
Pointless fight. Jacobs can't knock out Canelo and he won't win a points decision in Vegas.
agreed, We all know this truly in our hearts. Even if Jacobs outbox him, he won't get the decision since Canelo's boxing cash cow
Both Charlos sign to fight nobodies after Andrade's route win and 1 week before DJ and Sergeiy fight...as well as Gennady's free agency.
Yet people like you suggest everyone else is ducking the Charlos.
Homie, the Charlos are PBC fighters. They don't want to fight anyone remotely good. That is why they stay PBC and fight bottom dwellers. If they were real they would've waited an extra week and negotiated with Andrade, Sergeiy/Danny winner (or loser), Gennady, etc.
Instead they resume feasting on cab drivers.
Whenever the Charlos are ready to be exposed they will take on better competition
Couldn't have said it better myself, all their fans are spreading fake news about them, but we saw them for who they are when Charlo backed down from Jacobs when they were face to face
Of course he's saying that. He beat Canelo. And there were talks of Floyd fighting GGG at a catchweight. But we all know that wouldn't happened. GGG is too big, too strong. So if Canelo beats GGG. Floyd can finally put an end to the talks of fighting GGG. He has a vested interest in the outcome. Of course he's gonna have a biased opinion.
Oscar not only said before the Jacobs fight Canelo/GGG would happen in Sept but he also gave GGG a 15m offer for Sept. If Jacobs fight influenced anybody it was the GGG camp who before that fight wouldn't take the offer. they got spooked that Jacobs almost beat him and realized we can't have any more fights that ruin our payday with Canelo. Also those disappointing PPV numbers sobered them up to reality of what GGG is worth made them stop pricing themselves out. They finally bent over at the negotiations table. It's called accepting your B side position.
Let's get something straight, WHO really knows what the offer was, unless you're in GGG or Canelo's camp. All we know that it was a flat fee rate that OScar "Claims" it was 8 figures.
This is my opinion, it felt like Oscar was using the Mayweather strategy by giving an offer GGG most likely wouldn't accept all while delaying the fight till GGG got older and showed signs of slippage. At the same time Canelo was getting better and better the last few years.
Oscar saw the HUGE drop in PPV buys from Canelo vs Cotto sep 2015 to Smith Sep 2016. And knew he was losing Canelo's fanbase if he didn't act quickly.
He told Canelo, lets use Chavez Jr for another cash grab in May, while this helps us fight a bigger stronger guy than what we are use to, to get ready for GGG in September.
Don't get it twisted, this was all part of a 2 year plan for Canelo that Oscar played out perfectly (luck helped out a bit).
Don't you find it interesting that this deal came to fruition rather quickly and was signed last week b4 even the fight with Chavez? After years of not being close
Um, Ruben Foster, Duke Lacrosse, Brain Banks...Unlike most of you peeps on this board, I will not make a knee jerk reaction to assume guilty until the facts come out.
And this is why it's harder for people(guys) to win these types of cases now because the public has a Salem Witch trial opinion that they did it even though they didn't witness it and have no idea what happened
I mean look at Chris Hardwick, he got screwed with a jealous ex when 4 other Ex girlfriends came to his defense after he got axed.
Some people say real fighters go overseas to fight a guy two weight classes below them
Completely irrelevant, asinine comment by nothing more than a GGG hater.
1. We all know he wasn't even suppose to fight Kell, Chris Eubanks Jr chickened out and forgot his pen.
2. Eddie Hearn even said this 3 years ago that he is the most widely avoided fighter in the sport. I think he knows more about that than you. Other fighters even gone on record saying that boxers avoid him cause it's a dangerous fight, the reward doesn't equal the risk
3. GGG whole campaign is marketability: constantly staying active fighting 4 times a year at multiple venues across the world to keep building that fan base up. He wanted to fight in GB, but when it came down to the wire everyone backed out and Kell was the only one man enough that had the big name draw tied to him.
Instead of constantly knocking GGG's opponents, how bout you knock all the fighters that are avoiding him.
It wasn't until he looked "vulnerable" vs Kell (something he claimed he did on purpose) that he starting getting quality fights this year
I think that pretty much sums it up, if GGG wins, look for his next fight to be announced soon at June 10th vs BJS in Kazakhstan, personally i didn't believe BJS would have the guts to fight him in his home country, but can't ignore the evidence developing. In a ideal world I think his camp wants to go Jacobs, BJS, and Canelo this year.
Look at the flip side my friend...isn't it interesting that the deal was finalized before the Chavez fight and the ppv numbers are leaked. The negotiations took months...but the final deal only took two weeks?
Which side had more options? How did Golovkin get old in less than a year? Was it slippage or just better competition? He did say that his last two fights were his biggest tests.
I'm not really sure the point you're trying to make, but I'm pretty sure GGG had options, Saunders, Jacobs, Lemiuiex, even Cotto mentioned he wanted to fight him.
I honestly think GGG wanted to do the fight with Saunders, but Oscar hated the idea of that because, like I said earlier he had a plan in place for GGG vs Canelo Sep. Since they'd have less time to promote it, GGG might get hurt or even lose. GGG actually created a little bit of leverage for himself by negotiating that potential fight.
Here's what's gonna happen in the fight:
It'll be a very close fight, mostly like Jacobs winning from the naked eye to most viewers, but Canelo will get the decision since he's boxing's cash cow. I'm cheering for Jacobs and hopes he wins, but he's not strong enough to KO Canelo, he can outbox him, but he will never get the decision. Hope he wins just so we can shut up all these Canelo fan boys here.
Side note, if Canelo would've fought GGG in his prime back in 2016 like he was suppose to when he was ordered by WBC, we all know Canelo would've lost.
I'm a Jacobs fan, but I think it's absolutely HOGWASH, that he get's to fight for the belt that he blatantly didn't follow the rules for to gain an unfair advantage over GGG only 18 months ago.
Yeah, you can make the argument that GGG probably should've fought this guy and he wouldn't get stripped of the belt, but he followed the same rout as past champions before him didn't want to fight him early in his career to risk a bigger payday later on.
There's only on person in America putting on PPV cards and that's Canelo, who was built up by Schaefer and helped by being on Floyd's PPV cards.
There are 2 future PPV fights everyone want so see and they both involve Haymon fighters, Spence and Wilder.
HA, that's a hell of a spin! The ONLY reason Deontay has a potential PPV coming up is because of the Biggest draw in boxing in AJ, who is promoted by Hearn
And the reason why Spence has a PPV coming up is he might be fighting Crawford, who is promoted by Arum, what a coincidence that there's a promoter on the other end of both fights.
Say what you want about Arum, I think he's scum too, but no doubt he's done a wonderful job promoting not only Crawford, but Loma as well on ESPN the last year.
More and more casual fans seen these two fighters because promoters have long term plans and ideas right than short term like Haymon does.
lil g and team know wus up. They don't want none of what they had to go through with Jacobs again and take another L. (UNOFFICALLY)
Please if you truly think GGG is avoiding Jacobs then you're just a hater and can't be taken seriously when it comes to boxing arguments.
CLEARLY GGG had Canelo in his sights and probably knew it would get done soon. Plus he had Saunders who wanted to fight him, but Oscar cried like a little girl cause he wanted to have ample time to promote Canelo-GGG fight.
A guy with options to fight either a multi million dollar pay day or a guy with a world title doesn't avoid fighters, he just has better options, smart one.
Dude knew he was behind and couldn't win without a KO or multiple knock downs which being realistic was never gonna happen as he wasn't facing his usual list of crap opposition. He quit because he knew their was no reason for him to endure a further beating and go out on his back.
He could have shown spirit and heart but here he is trying to save face.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN in a professional boxing match, HAVE YOU EVER had you eye socket broken. My guess is not.
Look, I get it, my initial reaction when he took the knee and tapped out, I'm like WTF he is doing, he quit. But you have to put the whole thing in perspective.
He didn't quit vs GGG, his trainer threw in the towel, and that was in round 5 against a harder puncher.
I wouldn't doubt his surgeon said that to him, but who really knows.
Obviously he knows what the injury feels like, I betchu the demons of knowing that he could go blind and pure shock of like "is this really happening again?!", made him do it. The kid was fighting in front of his home crowd, something he was dreaming of since he was a kid, there has to be a logical sense for him to do that at home.
This kind of reminded me of McClellan fight vs Benn when he took 2 knees and "Quit" and everyone was saying that right after it happen, and we all know what happened to him.
NO ONE really knows what going on to a fighter during these tense physical fights and you have to give him the benefit of the doubt based on his history
I don't think he cares. He's intensely driven by his family and he wants a massive payday. If he gets a big fight now he might even get another if Haye can recover. He's already achieved more than he ever expected to so now it's all money.
couldn't have said it better myself. He even said after the fight with Haye in the ring that he just secured the future for his children with the payday he got from that fight. He's a GREAT hype man, self promoter, something GGG and other fighters need to learn.
But lets be honest, he'll get destroyed in 3. He was even losing against Haye before he tore his Achilles. That's probably why he was able to take his punches, Haye lacked his true power because he had a weak base to effectively throw hard punches
Canelo is a pouty little b1tch. He is single handedly ruining the reputation of the phrase Mexican warrior. Have no idea how he's become the most popular fighter out of Mexico. When it comes to balls and fighting style, he's inferior to Sanchez, Chavez, Marquez, morales and barrera, but somehow he's made more $. He's generated legions of delusional fans but that's just representative of this younger generation of pusses
Exactly bro, I have no idea either, even when it comes to being popular in the USA, the guy can't speak a lick of English, has the highest pitched voice I've ever heard from a boxer and Loeffler and Sanchez nailed it. He goes into hiding all the time and you can never get an interview from him.
A lot has to do with his nickname and boyish good looks probably.
I'll say this, first off I'm an American. I watch the first fight live on HBO. Close fight, but thought Kovalev should have won UD. He landed more power punches, had the lone knockdown and wasn't grabbing, holding, wrestling etc. Ward came back hard in the end, but I felt Kovalev won one or two rounds in the 2nd half of fight.
IF THIS FIGHT WAS IN RUSSIA WITH 3 RUSSIAN JUDGES, Kovalev no doubt would've been scored UD. But since this was in USA with 3 USA judges, its hard for a Russian to get fair judgement if its close vs an American.
Looked at the judges cards and I think 2 of em had Ward winning the last 6 rounds which at least 2 of the rounds could have easily gone Kovalev's way, and i think one of em had round 2 scored 10-9 when clearly it should have been 10-8.
The ref did a horrible job with Ward's tactic of holding or wrestling as Kovalev put it. He should have been more stern and threaten to take a point a way if he kept on doing it
Also, look at both fighters faces after the fight, Ward's was battered, swollen and bruised, while Kovalev looked the same when he entered just a little red.

If anyone nearly capsized this event it was GGG with his non-stop blabbering. I know Canelo haters will whine 'bbbbuuuttt cheater...'. Doesn't matter. Tainted meat is all over Mexico, and Canelo's people skrooed up. Do you really think that will happen again? If so, I have some Jimi Hendrix CDs I'll sell you... cheap.
Keep being GGG level delusional, friend. It suits you. Meanwhile, Canelo is God in Mexico, and will make millions throughout his life. And will make millions more than GGG in the RM.
And Mexico may possibly ban tainting meat, who knows. Canelo's people acknowledge there was a mistake made with the meat. Yet you GGGaholics just can't let it go, now can you? You're stuck in low gear, yet wonder why you can't drive at highways speeds. Time to awaken from your self-imposed stupor there pal.
WOW, you are a delusional Canelo fanboy. Mexican tainted meat is the weakest most pathetic excuse there is. Plus when you're a guy who has the money, resources, power that Canelo has, why on EARTH would you being risky everything eating meat in Mexico if it's so tainted.
Everybody in the boxing world knows he cheated. GGG was playing politically when he first heard the news. Then everybody from fighters, trainers to promoters started speaking up about it and that's when the light bulb when off for GGG and I applaud him for coming to that stance hard.
This guy Canelo, NEVER steps on the HBO scale on fight night, can supposedly re-hydrate 20 lbs from weigh in. There's always been questions about the purity from him.
I'm sure Arum took less money from ESPN than HBO in exchange to get his fighters more exposure. The fact that Crawford attracted the same amount viewers on ESPN and HBO is fookin horrible. AND adding that this was a unification bout, this is plain horrible. I know Arum is feeling like shiet right now.
Chill bro, he has a plan. Pacman will rematch Horn in november, Pac will win then Manny's last fight will be Crawford. That will be fight Crawford gets the exposure to US fans.
Honestly, I think it was a push, same amount as he did on HBO. And let's be honest, Crawford is not a big draw name to begin with, he needs another name people know to help sell the fight. NOBODY knows who this Indongo guy was. Also, there was very little time for promotion. Was it July 1st when this fight was announced, roughly a month to promote it.
So pussie g was going to duck Charlo and fight Saunders??? Man that is some BS!
Canelo will win this fight, people will cry robbery and pussie g will retire.
Where the hell does fighting Charlo get him. Charlo has nothing that GGG needs right now. GGG earned the status of being able to pick his fights and not taking "risks" fights like the other fighters before him did when GGG was coming up. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Canelo did the same crap, as well as countless others like Adonis Stevenson.
Blame Mayweather for this trend where maximum reward meets maximum risk if anything else now like Max Kellerman said
These numbers are crap for Crawford. He was doing the same numbers on HBO, a premium channel. ESPN is basically a basic channel like CBS, FOX and NBC.
Ummm no, ESPN is not like CBS, FOX or NBC. ESPN is basic cable yeah, but FOX, NBC, CBS are channels that you can get without having cable, big difference.
That's why there was an uproar when Monday Night Football switched from ABC to ESPN, people without cable couldn't watch it
I think this is pathetic by the BBBC, Bellew was the one who was instigating everything. Talking trash, calling him out, and was the one who first pushed him before Haye threw the punch, all for pre hype press to help sell the fight. Of course Haye would defend himself and not get punked by this guy, any human would.
Bellew got lucky he beat a guy with one leg, and that crap is going to his head. Up untile round 6 Haye was whooping him on the cards. Now this idiot thinks he can beat Wilder, clown won't last 8 rounds with his KO power.
Jeff Horn is a freaking lion. There's nothing I love more in this sport than a fighter that wants to take over the freaking world. I'd be rooting for Horn in the rematch, especially since I know he'll dare to be great and unify.
Yeah, he's a freaking lion, but does that make him a technically good fighter? No. It's like what Teddy Atlas said, just because you fought hard and showed will doesn't mean you should've won and are legit.
I wasn't impress by him technically. Spence will KO this guy in 8 rounds or less, Thurman will straight up out box him.
And this guy is calling out Mayweather too, HA!
And if Manny does rematch him, it's hard to see him improving that much from this fight to pull of a LEGIT win.
This fool thinks cause he's the mandatory challenger, he's gonna fight GGG and MAYBE Canelo next if either wins. I got news for you, ain't gonna happen.
He looks highly skilled, but let's not sugar coat it, Heiland was DEFINITELY injured before he started the fight by the way he was not moving his left leg, even the commentators were noticing it and thought it was his style.
If Canelo wins, he's not gonna be the WBC champ and Charlo is too much of a risk with no reward for Oscar to let Canelo take that fight. If GGG wins, there's an immeadiate rematch clause with Canelo should he chose to take it, if not he'll fight BJS. Then after that fight he'll move up to 168.
Just because you're the mandatory challenger doesn't mean you're gonna get a fight soon, just ask Alvarez who's been the #1 challenger for Adonis the last two years.
Charlo needs to work on building his resume and name up.
I actually think the hyped died this time around because of the crap Canelo got himself in. If they would've had the fight May 5th, done the press conferences and tours, this would've sold more that time around. But the whole cheating scandal and Canelo unwilling to do press conferences with GGG leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths
It's just curious that, immediately after the GGG fight, Canelo would say, "... if the fans want a third fight, we'll do it."
A month or so later he adds the fact that Golovkin must have a belt to fight him.
Now it seems Alvarez won't fight GGG no matter what.
I think most fans saw the 2 fights as a wash out and want a third fight, but Canelo thinks his history with GGG is secure with the 2 fights and the 1-0-1 record.
Maybe it's just a stalling tactic, but if Canelo's concerned about his legacy, he definitely needs a third fight with Golovkin.
Finally a person spitting facts followed by a justifiable opinion on here. Canelo and ODH did the same thing after the Cotto fight saying he needs time, 2 years worth, to move up 5 lbs to 160, but yet he moves up to 168 and 175 no problem now lol
