The reason why I want Tua to come back is because of his aggressive style and the fact that he's a huge puncher. He comes to fight and you know every punch could be a KO punch. Tua brings excitement to a division I'm not really a big fan of right now.
++ Sadly, Mr. Tua has not bothered to train since 1995-6...

Steward nailed it.
++ Right... the burden is always on those that claim to be great, to be a legend... that's a club that doesn't come cheeply... the dues to that club are all about pain and daring and making astonishing things happen...

I think it says a lot about this site and the powers that be that everyone has Floyd rated as the number one P4P in the sport, except here, I find that very curious and interesting. But I suppose Mayweather haters need a place to gather and vent their deranged frustrations....
Years ago - I've been writing and editing outside of boxing/sports for a while now - the editorial staff and many of the writers felt that Manny represented boxing as a 'fighting' elite champion more totally than Floyd did... thus, the 'natural' leaning was certainly toward Manny... Mayweather was seen as a genius in the ring, but not the best face for boxing, a manipulative figure with the business of the sport to a large extent... Pacquiao was seen - relatively speaking - as a more up front, populist figure...
Regardless of whether or not that was an accurate representation/consensus, that 'feeling' and 'preception' was held by a LOT of important boxing writers and editors across the WEB and print journalism... Manny was seen as an 'authentic' ring warrior and fighting champion, in the traditional sense AND Floyd was seen as a ring genius, given to parcing out 'title' fights as leveraged business deals, tailoring his elite career...
Both were considered absolutely GREAT fighters across the board by writers and editors... and effectively the top pairing in terms of ring accomplishment and financial magnitude... however, the resentment Mayweather's personality, public behaviour, tendancy toward ludenss and criminality certainly influenced most in the writing/editing trade, TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER...
For what ever his particular faults, Pacquiao - by strict comparison - was an almost unimpeachable figure/champion...
AND ONES character, reputation and public dealing DO influence people, as objectively as they may try to adjudicate otherwise...
Mayweather, though in my mind the greater fighter, was not the champion nor the man nor the figure to represent boxing as the Fighter of the Decade
(2000-2009) by that measuring...

Now that's what I call a lopsided poll.
No kidding!
Though, generally, I suspect the poll 'would' have been a correct projection.
As much as I love Manny, Floyd was thee fighter of the past decade (if not the officially recognized one) and I just could never see Floyd allowing himself to be beaten by Manny... and for a plethora of other reasons, many cited on this thread, the fight NOT happening remains an oddity, an annoyance and a disaster for boxing, in a historical sense...

People such as Eddie Futch, Ray Arcel, Freddie Brown, Chris and Angelo Dundee, Bowie Fischer, Gil Clancey, Manny Steward, Freddie Roach, Bert Sugar (a-hole that he often is), Muhammad Ali, etc., all have said Ray Robinson was the GOAT!

++ Khan is well liked by the boxing scribes I know in England, at least... if he just keeps winning as he's currently doing, all will work out for him... the money, the fame, the adulation shall be his, more and more so!
P
I've acknowledged that there's an unfortunate race issue with Amir, For some reason the British dont like the kid because of his color. Even Khan himself said "If I were a white British fighter, Id be a superstar".
So my question to the British is if Amir Khan was white would you like him more?
I hate to say it but the UK seems like its not at the same level as the US when it comes to race relations and tolerance, Heck just look at the US president.
American fans are pure boxing fans. They dont bring prejudice into the boxing arena. For instance Manny is oriental yet he gets great support in america. That would never ever happen in britain. Only place manny would get support in the UK is in china town or Chinese restaurant.
That being said I know that Britian is a very divided country, There is no such thing as "British", You are either English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, or a derogatory term for anything else. Perhaps the problem the UK faces is that they have been unable to define a national identity. For instance in the US there are Italian-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Arab-Americans, African-Americans, Latino-Americans....But are all still Americans.
++ Pacman is the true draw OR HAS BEEN up until 2010, in theory... Mayweather has crept into marketing star status, mainly building on the backs of popularist fights from Gatti to De La Hoya mainly... the spiteful, anti-social rhetoric, which characterizes his egomanical rantings, have now, themselves become acculturated... he's now made a virtue (financially speaking) of being 'the villian'... and he's cashing in on his pop cultural 'infamy'...
P
PPv numbers for the Mayweather vs Mosely garnered 1.4million. 2 americans in their homeland. While Pacman who is a foreigner who fought cotto (a foreigner as well) who is just as popular as mosely got 1.3 million ppv.
So I would say based on popularity their both equals knowing pac cotto are both foreigners and getting those huge numbers.
Mayweather keeps on saying it was him not Delahoya who made the 2.4 million record for ppv now we know it was really DELAHOYA who had all the fans- 2.4million.
Note: Mosely owns the gate for number of attendance in the staple center. It shows how big a draw he is.
Plus, don't forget that there are "no" 24/7 and huge marketing, commercials for the Pacquiao Clottey fight.
24/7 and commercials where done only for the Mayweather, Mosely and Pacquiao Cotto fight.
And Mosely has been in more PPV fights than Cotto
So who really is the bigger draw? Or are they equal?
Bernard hopkins was shot down very much just a few days after 9/11. It was good to see a Muslim warrior dismantle felix trinidad, by mentally breaking him down.
The amount of shit thrown at bernard hopkins during the build up to that fight was disgusting. If anything Hopkins was the good guy in that fight, not trinidad.
++ What? Hopkins, the good guy? That's original, I'll give you that.

Good read, Patrick. I'm picking Hatton too (I think that's what your saying). The sheer number of "expert" prognosticators picking an easy win for PBF makes me surer than ever that Hatton will win by knockout (I actually envision a TKO in the 9th followed immediately by a Bowe-Golota style riot.)
++ No, I'm not picking Hatton... I'm a neutral in this one and that requires too great a leap of faith for me... I do expect something unusual to happen in this one for some reason... otherwise it's a straight line to Mayweather and Cotto, which is what HBO have been planning for two years now...
P
Floyd is already inside Roach and Pac's head. Genius.
About Pac destroying Oscar and Hatton: 1. Floyd beat them first. 2. Oscar looked like he just got out of a concentration camp when he fought Pac. 3. Hatton was knocked out by Floyd a year earlier.
++ And Mayweather looked really good against Del La Hoya... :))

Yvon Michel, promoter of WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, is livid with the recent comments from Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, and promoter Gary Shaw, regarding the officiating in Canada. Both Schaefer and Shaw are upset with the officials assigned to the last two fights involving Jean Pascal.

Canada is not a backward country in ANY sense and that sort of slur only shows the complete ignorance of the person casting such aspersions with regard to 'knowing' Canada.
Yeah BPP. We wanna know who you think wins the fight. Like always Ice Man gives a detailed explanation which I appreciate. If any haven't read it yet they should; he brings up some valid points.
++ He gets dissed by some boxing writers but when I have emailed him for quotes for stories he's always had a point or two that no one else comes up with... and he's very consider to reply promptly... nice guy, throughtful...
