I knew it was too good to be true. Mbili is tough, has volume, and will be in your grill for 12 rounds. Canelo, one of the few "all-time greats" that you always have to wonder whether he will fight a champion. Hell I still remember Andrade asking why would he fight a washed James Kirkland for no belt instead of fighting him for his. What Canelo has gotten away with in boxing is criminal.
"It looks like Jaron “Boots” Ennis will have to move on while Vergil Ortiz Jnr’s career remains on hold."
Which is exactly what that side wanted the whole time. They claim they wanted to fight Boots so bad, then when he was actually in front of him, lawsuits started flying and Errol Spence became the "dream fight". They're all on the same page, DLH, Mirigian, and Virgil Sr...they know what happens in that fight. Now they can save face and say it was "infighting" instead of what it really is.... A duck.
You mean Shakur will get a good pay day. cRyan brings the money and views
Just making stuff up out of thin air. Unlike Ryan, Shakur sold out his fight in a bigger venue with more expensive tickets.
I agree with most of this piece but Bivol Beterbiev 3 isnt the hill to die on. Who's really clamoring to watch that a third time? I'll watch, but I'd much prefer to watch Bivol Benavidez. Most immediate rematches are unnecessary and simply hold up the division. And let's not forget even the first fight had to "marinate" for 5-6 years, but certain fighters seem to get passes for that type of thing.
Spence has an opponent and now the fight is back in advanced negotiations.
This will be a showcase fight for Boots. Like Shakur v Teo except Ortiz is getting stopped. Mark my words.

Bob Arum really needs to get the Hitchins - Davis fight. There isn't that much of a gap in between them as far as fundamentals, powers, ring generalship, and intelligence.
Hitchens hasn't shown any desire to take a tough fight. He's not fighting Keyshawn. Best we could hope for with him is unifying against Dalton Smith
I'm sick of hearing all these big names Boots "might" fight just to watch him fight the ghost of Sergey Lipinets or some other nonsense.
That was 5 years ago. I guess the ghost of the twice brutally stopped Lubin would pass your high standard?
You ain't lyin
Could've had the chance and perfect avenue to fight Ortiz, but he turned it down to run it back with the almighty Karen, AGAIN
Ortiz wants to fight Spence and is suing to get out of his contract because in his lawyers own words Golden Boy violated their mandate of giving Ortiz "three options" for his next fight in other words they are trying to force him to fight Boots lol. When Boots fights Ortiz it will look very similar to what we say last night except Ortiz is getting stopped.
Ortiz vs Boots is a true 50/50 both can stop the other guy and both can win on points.
Ortiz and Boots is 50/50 the same way Shakur Teo was "50/50" lol
Like I predicted: technical mismatch, just like Crawford-Canelo. Now watch the Revisionist Historians swear on a stack of bibles that TeoFEMALE Lopez was never that good. Here comes the usual post-fight bullsht in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
I'll say it. Teo's two best wins are both already retired. Went life or death in a loss to a cherry pick. But that's to take nothing away from Shakur though. I thought he would win but didn't think it would be that dominant.
Good for Josh I guess, it was a close fight....probably a good thing for him that he fought in his own backyard. Regardless of who you think won, another Eastern Euro "boogeyman" has been exposed as extremely mortal. This reign was even quicker than usual. Funny enough Kelly has already been stopped by a guy Boots stopped, but of course Boots is the only unified champ in history to have "never fought anyone". I guess Kelly will be the next "nobody" since Ortiz is suddenly dissatisfied with GBP/DAZN (I wonder why?).
Apparently you missed the part where they are suing Oscar because Oscar broke the contract and instead of allowing Ortiz and his management to negotiate for the fight, he arbitrarily said in the media that he was moving on from the Ennis fight. Oscar also told Ortiz that if he didn't fight the fight he told him to that Ortiz would be shelved.
Maybe try actually reading what is going on. But I know, somehow Ortiz is ducking Ennis by suing his own promoter Oscar for not letting him fight Ennis. That must make sense in Boot's fanboy brains. Even though Ennis turned down Ortiz already and ducked him.
Derp.
Ortiz said he wants to fight Spence and his manager said any offer from Boots needs to be 10 million or it "won't even get looked at"....but sure, they aren't ducking at all, it's totally Oscar's fault. I know, I know ..Vergil wants to fight Boots so bad, it's just that evil Oscar getting in the way lol.
this is like a reverse ward. wards promoter offered him a ton of fights like bute, ggg, etc...and he said no i want dmitri sartison and im going to sue you till i get my way
Why do you guys love lying on here? Abel Sanchez said Ward didn't have anything to offer them. Ward repeatedly called him "little G" in the press and GGG kept his mouth shut and the media gave him a pass.
Ortiz meanwhile doesn't want the ghost of Errol Spence. He wants the guy that will prove he is the best. Oscar doesn't know what to do with guys who aren't like Canelo and actually want to fight the best, rather than making millions fighting no hopers.
Ortiz doesn't want to fight the guy he called out immediately after his last win out of nowhere, then went on multiple boxing YouTube pages and called out again on Livestream?
Like Marlo said, y'all want it to be one way...but it's the other way.
The easiest way to fight Boots if that's what he truly wanted would be to stay in his current contract where he shares a platform with Boots. Notice nothing was wrong with his contract until Boots was standing in front of him.
It's amazing what the proposition of fighting Boots will do to a fighter. Ortiz had no problem with Golden Boy or DAZN until there was pressure to fight Boots. After doing a promo in the ring with Boots, about 10 minutes later he's in the dressing room talking about his dream fight is Errol Spence. Then multiple reports say DAZN shot that down immediately, they want Vergil vs Boots. Now Ortiz is suing to escape Golden Boy and DAZN. He is scared of Boots. His management is scared of Boots. And IF he gets out of his contract, he still won't be fighting Boots. The man is scared. On the Verg(il) of being a 30 year old prospect. Sad. I'm sure he's hoping he'll have better luck with PBC, where there's a plenthora of aging, mostly inactive jr middles with great name recognition...which isn't a bad idea if you're in Ortiz camp...but it's still obvious the man does not want to fight Boots.
. Ortiz will make similar if not better money against Fundora or Spence.
More mythical Mexican fanbase gibberish. Ortiz, who makes lower purses, sells less tickets, and gets lower gates than Boots somehow makes the same or more fighting against Fundora, another fighter that makes less, sells less, and has lower gates than Boots lol. And BTW, Fundora is fighting Keith when he heals up.
The only real leverage Ortiz has is that they know Boots wants the fight badly and they don't...and they aren't going to sell their zero for cheap. Multiple reports said Stanionis had to make more than Boots to agree to the fight. Brian Norman turned down 1.7 mil to fight on a woman's undercard and fight in Japan as a champion for 250k. These guys are great talkers. If Vergil keeps playing he's gonna lose to someone else for a lot less money.
Please, not buying this good cop bad cop thing Rick and Oscar are doing. This is the same guy that just said Vergil needs 10 million to fight Boots. Before that he said Boots missed his turn or something to that effect. Five minutes after he was in the Ring with Boots he was calling out Spence. He doesn't want to fight.
The same can be said about Boots vs Karen. Eddy lost faith when Boots couldn't shine the second time. Karen?
No, the same cannot be said. Let me help you out.
Ortiz got dropped twice and was very fortunate to escape with a decision win. Boha then went on and lost for a second time to a late-30s Brandon Adams.
Boots won (AT WORST) 22 of 24 total rounds against Karen and dropped him in the second fight. Karen is 10-0 in his last 10 fights against guys not named Boots, with 6 KOs.
So no, the same cannot be said.
Same story with Boots as always. Ortiz has a far better resume, he has shown that he will take tough fights. He has the Mexican fanbase.
It's interesting how everyone gives Ortiz credit for having a huge fan base simply because he's Mexican. He's never come close to Boots in ticket sales or gate. 3 divisions, no belt. Took two tuneups at 54, 5 fights total and still no belt. 50/50 would be a GIFT for him. His whole shitck has been "we wanted to fight Boots but he didn't want to fight"...now that Boots is at the weight class and had one tuneup suddenly the Ortiz camp has every excuse in the book.
Oscar is annoying but he's no dummy when it comes to boxing. He knows what happens if the two fight, and he doesn't want to see it, just like he didn't want Ryan to fight Tank. He'll be damned if he lets it happen again. He has no other stars if Vergil gets torched (and Vergil isn't even a star). It's funny how Oscar can play boxing purist at times when it comes to sanctioning fees or lobbying for "the best to fight the best"....but when he has his own skin in the game, he's the same as everyone else.
And don't expect Vergil fans to be upset about this...they know what happens when he fights Boots, and they never wanted to see it either.

And there it is...this is Vergil and Golden Boy's proverbial 'middle finger' to Boots and Eddie. I can't be mad at it either.
Of course youre not mad at it, because you know what happens if Boots and Ortiz steps in the ring.
Ortiz seems to have a fetish for being welterweights first fight at jr middle. But ONLY if he's the first. Hes had five fights at the weight, two tuneups, yet Boots taking only one tuneup has him running for the hills. What happened to all this mexican warrior stuff we're always hearing about?
--------------
My favorite one is Thomas Dulorme. A guy that was KO'd by Boots 4 years before Ortiz fought him at 154 and yet they are sheeting bricks because Boots fought Lima in his 154 debut. Insanity.
The excuse is "But Ortiz was coming off a health scare so he had to fight more tuneups!" Of course the people that want to buy it, will.
I've said this countless times over the years and ill say it again...you don't get a Canelo fight because you're "ready"...in fact, being ready is a negative.
Probably Cotto. Cotto is also proof that the money may/pretty boy dichotomy is mostly bull. "Money May" stood right in front of him and banged it out for the whole night. That was a conscious decision.
