Alright alright folks... Let's cool this down a little bit, I don't want to make it sound like a "who hates Hopkins" parade... Anyway I'm not surprised that HBO enjoys so much laying under his cock... Every Hopkins fight fruits milion dollars in payperview/tickets/merchandise money. In the end it's their own "golden calf" and they do their best to promote him. :)
Another Red K given.
We're gonna brand you like the (B)Witch that you are, just like in the old days.
Only serious posters, with an objective opinion/criticism of a 46 year old, Great fighter, at the twilight of his career are welcomed.
Just like saying that only certified Hopkins' fans are welcomed. Did I miss the "Bernard Hopkins' fan club" sign at the home page?
You can give me all the "red K" you like (whatever this red K is), it's just for not being a Hopkins fanatic and wise people will see that.
you must be new around here....around here anyone who isn't enthralled with hopkins overachievements is a hater to the highest degree....be prepared to be placed on nasa000's ignore list...lol
That's about the reason why I made this thread: the thing with Hopkins is that he gives the noobs the impression of watching an "old-school fight" (whatever that means), so the all noobs think "wow, old-school is cool... Not like nowadays when I'm a sad, sore loser with no hope. Man, if the old-school was still here, I'd be a superchamp!!" (while I still don't understand what "old-school" is really means... The boxing science is supposed to evolve and get better with time, not to get worse)... So the classic noob/troll starts raging out: " :purity: dude, you hate hopkins? You should have seen what they did in back in the 50's..." So I go: "dude, your dad wasn't even born in the 50's.. What on Earth can you know about boxing schools in the 50's??" And the noob goes: "I know it because Hopkins is old-school, man!! You know? Everything in the old-school was better and, uh... More true!!!" So the only possible answer left is "Shut up, noob." :bottle:
You must be new to boxing?
Well I've started my amateur career last year, I've only got one fight in the record, but I'm training for the next one. :) I've started my training for boxing 5 years ago by now. In a wide sense, yes you can call me a newbie. :)
His wins are better than their wins, his accomplishments are better than theirs, add that to the fact he ko'd both of them
So the fact that Jermain Taylor beat him twice, makes Jermain Taylor a better fighter than Hopkins. :)
As I said, it's a matter of personality. Hopkins is a highly intelligent guy, no doubt about it, most respect to him as due to any multiple world champion anyway...
My topic here is that I'm not fed up with mr. Hopkins himself but with the blinded fans that call even his fouls as miracles.
Can't be bothered to debate with this clueless noob who just admitted to judging a fighter based on a few minutes of a fight.
The fact he also insults the people that disagree with him was a peach.
Have fun guys. Don't rip him too much.
Cut it out, b1tch. I didn't say I judged Hopkins by that fight, I said I've seen many other Hopkins' fights. Next time read better the post you're about to answer to.
So I didn't judge Hopkins by that single fight. I didn't admit anything, you just imputed me words I didn't say to try and get out of this as a winner.
Basically, you're just trying to hide your shame for calling a "notorious slow starter" one who notoriously tries to catch his opponents cold. Is this cool enough as an answer, Hopkins lover?
Sorry but I can't answer to all the desperate trolls that roll around. :)
The Dawson fight is not the only Hopkins' fight I've seen, but I've judged what I've seen in those first minutes. I know the regular Hopkins' fan tho: a guy with poor personality who's in awe of Hopkins' flamboyant style and takes all his dirty moves as miracles.
P.S. that Hopkins is a slow starter is plain bullsh1t, having seen the fact that he often tries to catch his opponent cold in the first round, as he did against Calzaghe. And ended up losing, but Hopkins' fans still call it a win. :D
:bottle:
Hopkins has the best active resume if you ask me..but i guess some people just hate just to hate.
I don't hate anyone and I don't need to justify myself. I just give my opinion. You gave yours. I don't think that he has a better resume than Pacquiao, Mayweather, Toney and Roy Jones... Those are boxers that showed true light. Hopkins is a great boxer, multiple world champion, but I rank him also lower than De La Hoya and Trinidad, in the history of boxing: a super-middleweight against a fat welterweight I don't call it a fair match. I also don't think he lost against Calzaghe like many American fans say.
I have nothing against Hopkins himself, I just noticed that a lot of people are charmed by his self-confidence and give him some credit that he doens't deserve, as a boxer (not as a man... I am not judging the man here, just the boxer.) :)
he's been a pressure fighter and he's been a counter-puncher/defensive wizard. Especially early in his career he was a seek & destroy type of fighter. He evolved over the years to be more of a defensive fighter, especially as he aged.
Against Pascal he was the aggressor though, so he obviously doesn't fight every fight the same way. He looks to exploit his opponents weakness and use that against him. Against pavlik for example his best weapon was his 1-2 combination, once hopkins took that away from him pavlik had nothing. Pascal's weakness was his stamina/low work-rate so he knew he had to be aggressive and out work him.
He's a very smart fighter that deserves his respect. Not too many fighters have the ring IQ of hopkins. Floyd and a couple others and that's it really.
What's really amazing about Hopkins is the story of his life: he started boxing in prison in his 20's and slowly made it to the top. He was everything but the overprotected champion/golden boy, and I respect him greatly for that achievement. He has a tremendous will and focus... Which makes him fight at the top level even at 46 years old... That's what makes him unique.
He's wise, never took a severe beating, but much of his defensive skill-theory is pumped up: he just clinches, pushes and charges, lifts his opponent with the shoulder to make him lose his balance, holds a lot on the inside trying to wear the opponent down, headbutts a lot... He's similar to Andre Ward, another boxer I truly dislike.
More credit then he deserves,
20 title defenses
2 time light heavy champion
2 division lineal champ
oldest world champion EVER
How can you be a boxing fan and call that hype?
Maybe because I'm not a boxing fan. I just love the sport of boxing, this is it.
And I don't like Hopkins' posing, holding, pushing, and overall dirty fighting.
Hype??46 years old a champion damn near 20 years and it's hype?? damn there are some funny posters here.
How do you call it when someone is given more credit than he deserves? Hyped-up, overrated... Just call it as you like, I think you know what I meant anyway.
I'm hearing what you say dude. Probably get red K from the nuthuggers but f*ck it. He's sh*t to watch. I don't care if he 106 years old. Doesn't make him any more entertaining does it?
Well said there, this is what I'm talking about.
Sorry if I don't answer all the desperate trolls but I've got a life too. :)
hype?? lol dude is 46 you can't just be all hype anymore. he was riding high off breaking Foreman's record but he's proved himself over and over, as well as had some stinkers on the way.
not sure what you're talking about HBO he's talked sh!t about HBO and the announcing crew numerous times in the past, similar to floyd calling them racists etc.
and yeah, I don't know how you could not call his fights with pavlik, tarver & trinidad schooling. That's what they were, plain & simple
Pavlik was in poor psychological shape in that fight... Schooling an alcoholic is not really something to go proud of.
Trinidad... Man, that guy was half Hopkins' size, and overweight! Instead he was schooled two times by Jermain Taylor who was DEMOLISHED by Pavlik...
I'm sorry for the fans, but I can't call Hopkins a great fighter. He's good at pleasing fans tho, that's for sure. :)
Now I don't want this to end up as if I'd called Hopkins a bum... He's a multiple world champion after all, and also did some great wins... The liver uppercut to De La Hoya was genius... The problem with these Golden Boys (De La Hoya, Trinidad, Roy Jones, etc), is that they did nothing but boxing in life since an early age: they've been pampered and treated like superstars since their early teens, and they end up living for boxing... I mean not taking it as a hobby or a job... But making it a reason to survive. They need the approval of the fans not just to work, but to feel strong and good to themselves, they make a personal thing out of it, and they end up drained by every drop of soul by the age of 34... Hopkins instead has a different personal background, which allowed him to take boxing for what it really is (to him): a job. He'd be alright with himself even as a cab driver, he doesn't need the approval of the corwd. This mindset made him last longer than other fighters that were still better than him as boxers, but they were more fragile psychologically.
He did school Glen Johnson, William Joppy, Tito Trinidad, Antonio Tarver, Kelly Pavlik and Jean Pascal with no dirty tactics, and you can't watch any of those fights and say he didn't win fair and square.
But when he does his WWE-style acting and dirty fighting, they make him look really bad. Like against Allen Winky, Calzaghe, Jones II, and Dawson.
You gotta love him and hate him. He went from giving a loveable performance against Pascal, to a possible Oscar winning role in the movie "Believe It Or Not" co-starring Chad Dawson. It would be a shame if he doesn't win an Oscar for best actor for that role. I mean getting nominated is already a success, but if he doesn't win it, it'll be a robbery.
That's what I'm talking about. :)
What puts Oscar and Tito over him?
You see, Hopkins is a counterpuncher who calls himself an aggressor.
Of course he has skills, damn he's a world champion... But he is not an out-fighter as he calls himself, he's just a pressure-fighter who likes to hold on the inside and that makes his fight annoying and ugly to watch.
Because the Mayweathers are a true f'cked up family, man. That's what makes Floyd jr. so sympathetic to me, it's the fact that he grew up in a so much f'cked up family... It must be REALLY, REALLY hard to deal everyday with such assh()les as Floyd sr. and Roger...
Man, look at this interview from minute 7 on...
Lol I mean, listen how Floyd calls "Frehehehed... Frehehed..." he sound like a fckin sheep calling out his shepherd... ahahahah Freddie is Floyd sr's motherf'cking Good Shepherd ahahahah :owned2: Floyd
Why does my boy Joe never get any respect?
To me he is a All time great fighter one of the best ever.
My second favorite fighter of all time very fun to watch.
HE was super Middleweight champ for 10 years.
He had great potential but wasn't able to get the big fights early enough, due to the fact that he preferred to remain in his little village in Wales than to move to America with his entourage like pretty every succesful superstar non-American fighter did (Khan, Pacquiao, the Klitscho's Lennox Lewis, Bute, the list is long...).
That's how the world rolls: if you want the big fights, you must be in America: out of the USA, out of the WBC/HBO/Showtime/Arum fellowship=out of the real deal.
Apart from that, Calzaghe is probably the most talented boxer of the last decade.
LOL a f@g worshipping flomo calling someone else fanbase effeminate the irony.....LOL
I only worship honesty and regularity among the sport of boxing, as I am a boxer myself. I do not worship any human being. Actually I don't even worship myself when I'm mistaking something.
I just stated that I enjoyed watching what happened, including the kissing-boys who called Mayweather a cheater. So I don't see what's the point of your post. It just sound like a frustrated, falsely ironic statement. You're no fun at all here, boss.
Ok you can kiss me and then I can bite your ear off, what a stupid post.
not as stupid as the reply. i didn't say I liked the biting, I said that Ortiz's kissing was worse than Tyson's the ear biting. Read better next time. :)
It was a ***** move by Ortiz to headbutt Floyd, absolutely. But tone that gay **** down lol, we all know which camp that is the gay camp.
You mean the gay training camp? :)
Oh and to all of them who think Floyd did a sucker punch: the referee had already gave them way to fight, so Floyd's one-two combination was perfectly legal. And fun to watch. Definately worth the ticket... Wish I was there!
No way, I dont think in 10 years time anyone will remember that kiss but im sure as hell people will remember tyson biting half a ear off and spitting it out.
You already proved my point 14 years later you still remember the tyson incident, I very much doubt you will or anyone else will talk about the oh no ortiz kissed mayweather, how outrageous incident in 14 years time.
If you think otherwise then you are stupid.
Listen, you are showing immature attitude here. Just like Ortiz was immature last night.
.1) Ortiz should not have wasted time by hugging Mayweather after the referee had started the fight again... He should have apologised to the referee, not to his opponent.
.2) This fight could indeed be remembered very well as an example of what not to do inside a boxing ring. :)
.3) guess who will remember this night for all his own lifetime? Victor Ortiz himself! :crying: :owned2:
