Why does my boy Joe never get any respect?
To me he is a All time great fighter one of the best ever.
My second favorite fighter of all time very fun to watch.
HE was super Middleweight champ for 10 years.
can you imagine a "world champ" fighting the runner up on prizefighter? calzaghe basically did that by fighting contender loser manfredo. why?
bonus calzaghe knockout!
Hahaha as funny as these stoppages are upload the Manfredo one, I beg you! It's literally a 20 slap flurry all hitting thin air & the ref jumps in screaming ''STOP BOXING!'' like he's being killed, lol!

He had great potential but wasn't able to get the big fights early enough, due to the fact that he preferred to remain in his little village in Wales than to move to America with his entourage like pretty every succesful superstar non-American fighter did (Khan, Pacquiao, the Klitscho's Lennox Lewis, Bute, the list is long...).
That's how the world rolls: if you want the big fights, you must be in America: out of the USA, out of the WBC/HBO/Showtime/Arum fellowship=out of the real deal.
Apart from that, Calzaghe is probably the most talented boxer of the last decade.
Ye Hopkins just seems 2 always perform age doesn't affect him, the reason I said a few years earlier tho is tht joes workrate seemed 2 affect Hopkins stamina in the later rounds
It is exceedingly strange to me that nobody even makes a suggestion that Hopkins's unchanging form is because he may be on steroids. He's never been asked to take blood tests.....why? I know he said that if it was in the contract he would (but that's merely a matter of going off them well before tests begin). Well, he didn't exactly say that, but said that he wouldn't take the tests because they weren't in the contract. (not exactly the same thing- more like a misleading comment) If he'd been taking them and stopped, he'd likely lose, but he's lost beore so isn't such a big thing, being that he's so close to retirement.
People seem to forget that when Joe faced Hopkins,Kessler,Lacy, and Jones he was far from his OWN prime.Joe had hand problems that took their toll on his power.I believe Joe would have embarrassed Hopkins if they metv10 years earlier when Joe was 25.As Hopkins has gotten older ,Id say since the last Taylor fight hes employed the old hit and Hold technique. The same move that Andre Ward, and Berto use, they use it because of weak whiskers Hopkins because he just cant fight 3 full minutes anymore and hes not quick enough to avoid shots ala Mayweather. So he throws a punch then holds,he decides to let go throw another then hold.It saps the opponent of energy is extremely cheap thats why its illegal just NEVER enforced.

daggum lost his house because he bet all his money on hopkins.
he had to sell his car when he lost absolutely everything betting on jones jr.
actually i lost most of it betting on manfredo. i saw him lose on the contender and i thought he was a lock to beat unknown joe.
I know you love to dig those out discrediting Joe for it. Who do you discredit for those? Frank? Ref?
they are all to blame. not giving the other guy a chance to win and putting more ko's on joes record so clueless fans can say calzaghe was a power puncher. i have more respect for cesar rene cuenca 41-0 (1ko)
Then I guess i've seen more fights than you, Joe threw the hammer in the early days knocking many out flat. Perhaps not the best fighters back then, but when he reached elite level he met a lot of good names. And 21 titledefences is not to be overlooked. But I too am a bit unsatisfied with the way his career ended, he should definitely have taken Dawson, Pavlik and a Hopkins rematch, if you mix Froch in there you got a serious candidate for breaking top 100 atg resume, had he taken and won them all.
was it a nerf hammer?
just looking at records doesn't tell you anything about a fighter. joe calzaghe being a prime example. 46-0 but mostly tomato cans and gift wrapped wins. a couple good wins doesn't overshadow a fraudulent career. if boxrec says calzaghe ko'd someone you can almost be sure it was an early stoppage or some kind of hilarious intervention by the ref.

Kinda mentioned him for the record, one of the few Calzaghe fights I haven't seen, but I did not know it was one of those premature stoppages again. Happened a lot for Joe, but nonetheless he beat some very good fighters too and I know you love to hate on him.

i can see you just looked at boxrec and saw luciano torres 45-2 record and thought he must be good........but i guess you didn't see that it was all bums. oh well. calzaghe didn't even beat him fair and square anyway.

Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler, two undefeated top candidates at the peak of the division.
Eubanks, while he was on the slide.
Hopkins is a superb win no matter what, we know that by now.
Mario Veit, Omar Sheika, Richie Woodhall, Evans Ashira, Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid, Luciano Torres are all good fighters too.

Perhaps Hopkins would've been him, but I don't see any downslide for Hopkins, I think he's gotten better and more experienced. So 3-4 years plus minus wouldn't change so much imo.
Roy beats him prime for prime. No doubt in my mind, but would've been a sweet fight.

The Kessler fight 2 me was his best fight, and like I said I was a fan went 2 his last 4 fights, I do however think Hopkins may of beaten him a few years earlier and a prime jones would of beat him.

great fighter! i'm a big fan of Joe but i think B-Hop would have beat him in a rematch and also if the fight was years earlier than their fight.A prime Roy Jones Jr would have K'Od him in my opinion! To me he'll always be known as a great fighter just not an all time great!

Some people just like to hate. There's nothing you can say to change their mind. If he was American he would've been much more popular.
I think it's because of the type of fighters he faced, never really went against any top fighters (in prime) other than lacy (wasn't really a gd challenge but people did think he was). I did like Joe tho went 2 his last 4 fights
