Lol...I wasn't trying to compose a definitive top ten of British fighters. I really was just experimenting with how to post a poll, and it's the first thing that popped into my head. I have to say I've never heard of Ted Kid Lewis or Jimmy Wilde so something productive has come out of this. Thanks for the inadvertent advice guys! ;)
There are so many fights in boxing history that have had an overwhelming favorite.
Where would boxing be if we didn't give the underdog a chance?
The problem with this place is that some how fantasy fights > reality.
Just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean shyt when the two step in the ring.
After all the upsets recently, this guy still has the nerve to ask why....
Hey, I hope it's a great fight - I really do, and if Mosley can pull off an upset then good luck to him. There doesn't seem too much point though - nobody will be surprised or impressed if Manny wins, and on the off chance that Mosley wins what does that do for the sport?
Ill be watching because..
1.Its boxing and anything can happen. and 2. Watching Pac beat on a guy is quite entertaining.
Who except Floyd would you expect to have more than a punchers chance of beating Pac?
Of course they should just get Mayweather in there and get it over with, but I would think a match vs Khan could be quite entertaining. Ortiz could be interesting. Maybe Maidana. I know what you mean though.
This thread has given me such joy today. Thankyou Lead Cenobite! Those YouTube clips tickle me silly every time. They're just so ridiculously poe-faced it's genius. :)
We live in strange times indeed when someone takes so much time and effort to say the same thing different ways about something nobody really cares about - it's inspiring! So thank you again! I could care less about Joe Calzaghe one way or the other and frankly I could care less about your views on boxing but there's something endearing about someone with such a focussed obsession to bring down one man in a virtual world he's probably not even aware of that's quite refreshing. It's also a perfect illustration of why nobody should ever take anything anyone says on an internet forum seriously. Ah, what a world. :)
Oh, incidentally - can someone tell me why sub-par opponents are referred to as 'tomato cans'?
why would you wanna make a thread full of haters???
I thought it might be interesting. As far as hating goes as far as I can tell it wouldn't be much different from the majority of NSB threads anyway. ;)
Hard not to agree with the ones mentioned. Recently there is one fight practically everyone was talking about, but not so much before it happened as after it was over and that was Tyson vs Douglas.
1. Hagler
1. Duran
2. Leonard
2. Hearns
As much as I appreciate SRL's mad skills he really bugs me. I don't like sneaky and Ray was as sneaky as they come. Call it intelligence, smarts, gamesmanship if you will, I call it sneaky and I don't like it. Hagler seems to me the most honest and unsneaky of the four (there really isn't much to seperate them IMO) so he gets my vote. He worked hard to get where he was and he never took his eyes off the prize. I have a ton of respect for Duran aswell, although he could be a little dirty sometimes. I find it's a lot more difficult to get hold of Hearns fights than the other three so I don't really feel I can judge him fairly. He was very impressive in the two Leonard fights and The War but that's about all I've seen of him.
Things that bug me most about Leonard:
1. Making Hagler wait an eternity to fight him.
2. Mollifying the judges with his fast feather-flurries at the end of each round in the Hagler fight.
3. Not giving Hagler a rematch.
4. Waiting years to give Hearns a rematch.
5. Not squaring up to Duran in the (too soon after the first match) rematch. Instead trying to embarrass him with his slipperiness.
There's no denying his skill as a boxer, but his calculated gamesmanship detracts from his achievements in my eyes.

I was really looking for posters to rate the top 5 performances of a fighter they hate. I can only assume you're a fan of both fighters, so it doesn't really work. Thanks though.
Am I missing something? Any time I've seen Vitali he seems to spend the whole fight tap-tap his opponent then run away. It doesn't impress me. I haven't seen much of Wlad fighting anyone decent, but I do remember Lamon Brewster rubberising him with a couple of swipes. Again I'm not impressed. Here's a list of who I think would prevail over either brother:
Muhammad Ali
Joe Frazier
Larry Holmes
Mike Tyson
Ken Norton
George Foreman
Ezzard Charles
Joe Louis
Joe Walcott
Jack Dempsey
Rocky Marciano
Evander Holyfield...
...just to name a dozen off the top of my head.
The Klits have been dominant for so long simply because they're the best of a bad bunch it seems to me. In the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is king. The heavyweight division badly needs a hungry, aggressive and skilled new superstar a la prime Tyson but I don't see anyone on the horizon. It's depressing. :(
