I never competed in MMA so it's hard to make an honest comparison, but yes, I'd say boxing is harder. In MMA you can probably do more to cover your weak spots so to say, and boxing requires finesse on a different level. IMO, of course.
Give him a break, he's just some naive kid wanting to be a boxing reporter. Yes, it gets embarrassing at times and I know some folks at a certain gym in LA are sick of him, but I grant him every bit of fun he has.
Dang. Great thread. Seeing those old photos of a young Mike and looking at where he is today, I actually feel really sorry for the guy. He's had it rough.
Chuvalo is a stud. That guy is still going to kick your ass when he's 150. When God created men, he wanted us to be like George Chuvalo and not like today's girly men who spend 3 hours a day updating their status on Facebook like a bunch of gossiping old ladies.
Damn, I wish I had the opportunity to go - I'd be there for sure. I mean, sure it's expensive, but in my experience you never regret the money you spend on stuff like that.
He's great, but not the greatest of all time. And as far as RJJ goes, I feel his success was due more to his athleticism than his skills - which is why he is absolutely hopeless now. If it had beenskills that set him apart from the rest, he still could possibly have done okay still, like James Toney would have done okay had he been able to stay in shape (James is skilled, believe it). But while RJJ's skills were good, it was really his speed, quickness, coordination, agility etc that made him so incredibly good. He was born with that, and now that it's gone it's gone for good, and he should find something else to do.
Boxing is pretty huge in Germany right now, so it's not THAT surprising.
Personally, I hate German boxing though, I'd just like to say that. I hate a lot of the fighters, who will do anything to win, even when it makes them look like bitches, complaining to the ref etc etc. I also hate the fact that in Germany, the German fighter (that includes fighters who belong to a German stable) will take home the decision 90% of the time. Also: the style the fighters use. And the shows, with the corny live bands etc etc.
I've got to hand it to the Americans: you guys still have the best boxing stuff. By far.
