my guess is, maybe Victor realizes that its an insult to carry his family's name on his back, since he was abandoned by both parents as a child, and he's been pissed off at his parents since.
Dunno about both parent's abandoning Victor, (prob true) but I vividly remember Victor's dad leaving, because when his Dad came back into his life
he made a comment about the Ortiz name being tattooed on Victor's back, thus Victor getting it covered over
**all on 24/7
Shane's trying hard but no pop on his punches and he can't get ANY rhythm going..
Sounds a bit like the Floyd fight, where after Mosley said he had trouble getting warm or what ever.
My theory is maybe that foolish looking tribal tattoo is what's really Mosley's problem
the thing is this is the same shane that was in against floyd, margarito, & mayorga.
okay enough with the "same Mosley" garbage, we get it
instead of going "oh my god, this is the same Mosley who destroyed Margarito"
look who he's up against ... you can't expect someone to fight the same exact way vs every opponent
**and before he got the KO in the last round vs Mayorga, Shane wasn't fighting all that great.
Mosley blasted through Margarito and won via TKO ... how come he didn't do that to a higher profile opponent like De La Hoya or Winky Wright?
different opponents bring out different strengths in fighters
Mosley has always had his troubles with technical boxers but he can tee off someone like Fernando Vargas, who's more willing to exchange.
Berto is a huge waste of money.
That's what I tend to think as well. As HBO can pump all this money into Berto but in the long run is he even that marketable?
Catchweights
i still think there is too much *****ing about catch weights. guys who are going down a few pounds to face a naturally smaller guy usually wins.
de la hoya-hopkins
whitaker- Chavez
hopkins- pavlik
on the top of my head. point is, it isn't too easy for the smaller guys to beat these bigger guys as pac makes it seem.
with the exception of Chavez-Whitaker which officially ended in a draw the better fighter (Hopkins) ended up winning.
well it varies from fight to fight, I mean DLH used a CW to fight Hopkins and lost. And vs Cotto going into the fight Pacquiao had pretty much every advantage and the only real edge Cotto had was the size, which was taken away a bit by the 145 catchweight.
I mean why does the pound for Pound #1 needs a catchweight too, on top of all the advantages he already holds vs Cotto? .. that's why I call it lame/pathetic
and again my issue with it, is that Pacquiao seems to select catchweights for higher risk opponents
on paper Cotto seemed a tougher fight, so team Pac uses a 145 catchweight
then next fight vs Clottey, who on paper is a much less risky fight no mention of a catchweight what so ever
I mean doesn't that tell you right there that Team Pacquiao is specifically using this catchweight as an extra advantage?
sure yeah some people say "a couple pounds don't make that big a difference"
but how is that the case, when team Pacquiao go through the trouble of adding in a specific CW in the first place?
^ catchweights are still pretty bad. If you want to beat someone beat them at their best. Some boxers have enough trouble making weight as is ... why throw in 3-4 extra pounds with a silly catchweight?
an ESPN article a year back or so listed 15 catchweight bouts and most all of the ones listed seemed utterly worthless (such as Trinidad-Jones Jr for example) or even Malignaggi-Diaz
with so many weight divisions, I don't see a big need for catchweights
and what I think so many boxing fans miss are it's the concept of catchweights is what I don't like the most as if the weight or size differential is so drastic that you need to handicap the fight by controlling the weight of your opponent a couple pounds
I just find it pathetic. Yeah "both guys sign the contract" but why have an extra handicap with a specific weight restriction?
Zab change?
I am hoping he changed his ways.
lol, good luck with that. Considering Zab's a grown man and has over 40 pro fights under his belt
what the hell is he supposed to or going to change?
"he's doing Golden Gloves stuff"
What Yoel? I guess he's callin Lucas an amateur...lol
Zab still has his dad in the corner? ugh .. see what I mean, one of the big criticisms I myself have .. and have read elsewhere that having his father as a corner man is not a great benefit
I know everyone isn't the same but how can you really expect someone to fully mature if they still have their Dad screaming at them in the corner?
Didn't Caballero have to leave 122 because fights with Rafa, JUanma and Vazquez never happened
now Caballero is all the way at 130. unfortunately he just doesn't bring enogh $$ to the table for a big name to fight him
well the thing with some people (im not grouping you into this)
act like there's different versions of Zab Judah ... "oh he lost because he didn't show up" or "he's talented but if he could just get his head straight"
I mean come on, Zab's pretty much who he is at this point. And he def has heart ... I was live at the Cotto fight and he took a bad beating
bradley was already going up when alexander had his fight scheduled.
I thought Bradley signed off on his fight a little after Devon fought Urango
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4988184
but your right, a week or so big deal. Bradley moves up for one fight on HBO, and will most likely be back at JW for a bigger fight later in the year.
Well before the Urango KO he was in the mix as was Juan Diaz before losing to Malignaggi. You also had rumors of (and still do) of a Hatton comeback and talk about Marquez fighting at 140 so you have/had:
Marquez
Hatton
Bradley
Alexander
Khan
Maidana
Malignaggi
Ortiz
Diaz
Rumors of Valero
Granted, like you said there's not alot of superstar recognition like there is at welterweight but there are some really good fights to be made here.
the best fights to be made would be between the Alphabet holders at this point IMO. bolded were the names I already pointed out as there is some decent match making in May
regarding what I underlined well at the same time regarding Hatton the last I read was about him doing very poor and quitting training camp after 3 days. Not completely shutting the door on Ricky, but at this point I have to question the relevance especially considering how long he's been off. at this point can Hatton make an impact at 140?
as for Marquez & Diaz .... these guys are probably better off at LW, and considering Juan Diaz got pretty decisively beat last time out .. and from what his manager read
I think he'd be looking to rematch JMM. As for Valero, it's already known he vacated his WBC LW title, so I'd think only a matter of time before we see him at 140
so again, besides the already mentioned bolded names (Title Holders: Bradley, Alexander, Khan) interim WBA in Maidana
and 2-3 contenders in Ortiz, Paulie and possibly Valero. I don't see too much for 140.
**but of course I am looking forward to the Campbell-Ortiz & Paulie-Khan card. and Bradley/Alexander could happen in the near future.
^that's one of the issues I have with 140
we have some good fights on the horizon in the already mentioned
Khan-Paulie
and
Campbell-Ortiz
but outside of the three Alphabet champions (Bradley, Devon and Khan)
and maybe a couple other names. Junior Welter doesn't really have a lot of big time names or PPV draws which is exactly what KittenFlaps is saying.
**a lot of people on ******** were refering to the 140 weight class as stacked .. I dunno about you guys but outside of maybe 3-4 fights, I just don't see it.
Bradley and Alexander have yet to fight. and besides Bradley being a bigger favorite back then .. before Devon would win the title
**I also read somewhere that it was said no network would have picked up a Bradley-Alexander title fight .. which would have been for Bradley's WBC belt
which again is another reason to not want to fight^ .. I mean keep in mind these guys are professionals, and besides winning I'd think making money would matter as well.
