That beating he took from Vitali is and probably will be the biggest payday of his career. I don't think he will get anymore big paydays like the way he did after beating Tyson.
This would be a great move for boxing, now that Hopkins has been dethroned we need to get a new middlewight king. This will be the best way for us to find out who it is. I personally think Wright will take it all.
Tszyu was also injured for 22 months & although knocking out Mitchell, looked unimpressive and on his way down. Tough call but Winky has the better names in 2005, Hatton has the better wins.
I disagree about Tszyu looking unimpressive, he dismanted Mitchell with ease when he was the underdog. If Winky did become fighter of the year, I wouldn't protest against it.
I will have to go with Hatton, going into the fight with Tszyu, about 80% of the people thought Tszyu was going to destroy Hatton and humiliate him, but he proves the skeptics wrong and makes Tszyu quit in the final round.
I have to go with Hatton.
He shouldn't have fought because of the weight issue. I felt he shouldn't have fought Castillo at all, but so many fans of Castillo were claiming cheating that Corrales being the warrior he is wanted to prove everyone wrong. That's all fine and dandy, but when the opponent fails to make weight by a huge margin of 2 fucking pounds, you say no fight. Corrales had too much heart and wanted the money too bad to say no. Shame on him.
You are crazy, you are telling me Castillo didn't deserve a rematch? I agree with you about the weight issue, but how can you say Corrales shouldn't have gave Castillo a rematch?
Castillo nearly had the fight in the bag, and almost had Corrales knocked out and finished, but Corrales was SO lucky to pull it off.
To say Castillo didn't deserve a rematch is crazy!
I give a slight edge to Taylor over Hatton but really no one has more than one big win this year. Castillo has had a good year as well even though he lost to Corrales the first time. He beat Diaz and won the rematch against Corrales.
I would give him the benefit of the doubt, but there was controversy in the rematch. If he had made the weight, I wouldn't mind having him fighter of the year.
i pick taylor he is the man he beat hopkins twice and yet he put his undefeated record on the line and guess what??? his record stays undefeated lol haha
Records mean nothing, man.
Every great fighter had losses on his record(with the exception of Rocky Marciano, Salvador Sanchez, and Ricardo Lopez)
Taylor didn't beat Hopkins in impressive fashion, I had Taylor winning by one point, but there are many people that believe he lost.
Fighter of the year needs to win convincingly.
