I think Lampley is pretty good although everything is "tumultuous" to him. And, yes, you're right in pointing out that Merchant tries to impress everyone with his vast vocabulary. The daft thing is that his pronunciation of these "63-letter words" is often amiss. Zonk! Roy Jones Jr. seemingly always tries to shift the conversation toward himself. Steward's pretty good, but his nasally voice is not ear candy, my friends. Bring back Big George! He always spoke from the heart, and his Texas drawl was always easy on the ears. Bring back Ray Leonard, whose expertise was always communicated effictively! Bring Teddy Atlas over! Who can question his insight?
It's got to be Roy Jones Jr. All the other guys get up when they're sent to the canvas. I mean, would you say that Smokin' Joe had a glass jaw 'cause he went down so many times against Big George? Hell no! He had great heart 'cause he could do that! RJ went down and stayed down.
Hey, you are right about this one. Judah stops Mayweather. Chop Chop landed a lot more often than he should've on a "future hall-of-famer." Would Judah--bigger, stronger, and faster than Corley--do to Floyd? Lights out!
Tyson's right was by far his best. I can still here that Thump! on Holmes' noggin!
As far as left hooks go, Smokin' Joe's was cream of the crop, but honorable mentions go to Ray Leonard (KO4 Green--a horrifying shot), Tua, Holyfield, Cuevas, and Ray Robinson (KO'd previously unstoppable Gene Fullmer with one hook). Just one level below is Gerry Cooney's. He had that long left hook, but it sure did crack his opponents.
Did Lewis give anyone who'd lost to him a rematch? I can't recall. I mean, he never gave Mercer another shot, and Ray gave him hell and definitely deserved a rematch. Although he should've gotten the nod in the first Holy fight, why didn't he give Holy a rematch being that their second fight was so close? Vitali definitely deserved a rematch, too, but I think he scared Lewis too much in their fight. The only one I recall Lewis granting a rematch was Tyson, someone he'd handled easily. Courage, thy name is not Lewis!
Okay, Corrales is a sucker for the left hook, but this fight should never have been fought. For those of you who are old enough, do you remember when Mustafa Muhammad came in overweight at the weigh-in for his rematch with Michael Spinks? Spinks did the right thing and basically told Mustafa to take a hike. Contracts must be met. Castillo had agreed to the lightweight limit. Why break your word? He even admitted that he lied. I was a Castillo fan, but not anymore. What can be said of a man who does not keep his word? I also wonder if the promoters had anything to do with "persuading" Corrales to proceed with the fight. After all, they would have had a great deal to lose if this fight had fallen through. Fault lies with Castillo for lying; fault lies with Shaw and Prince for not watching out for their fighter.
