HBO Announcers... Time to Replace Them?

I truly believe that Larry Merchant goes quit announcing fights and find himself a better job because he is getting old and it is noticeable while he is talking. The other announcers should should stay put.

That a joke of an article. HBO has BY FAR the best crew in Boxing or maybe he just wants shameless ass kissing like that on Showtime. 1. HBO should not reconize the WBO or IBO and neither should any other network as a matter of fact ESPN and Showtime both do the sdame thing. All these little belts that keep popping up are hurting the sport and should not be given publicity. You ARE NOT A CHAMPION if you have one of those belts, You can only become champion by berating the best available to you. 2. Larry Merchant tells it like it is and doesn't allow any bullshit or stupid excuses during an interview thats the way it should be. The man has forgotten more about the sport than anyone on this board will ever know he's been covering the sport of Boxing since he was a kid. 3. They dont allow fighters to give shout out? WTF are you kidding me? This aint the Sould Train awards. 4. Did he really just compare Sam Soliman to Ali and Ray Leoanard? Im mean really now. Oh wow Soliman was rated #1 by a sanctioning body im soo impressed, It's not like you can just buy that type of thing...Oh wait. They dont need to clean up there act, This guy just needs to grow a pair and stop being so offended by stupid pretty stuff. Agreed!!!!

HBO sucks, they are totally bias and have no problem with it. all they do is hype their fighter, too the extreme!!! Hopkiins Vs Taylor 1 & 2, all Lampley did was scream about whatever Taylor did and would give minimal credit to Hopkins, almost as if he was forced too. Thats their job though, they are supposed to make the public see what they want them to see. they find an angle in the fight and then run it into the ground. upon doing so, they pursuade mindless people to see events they way they want thenm to be percieved. like Taylor not landing ONE significant punch in both fights, and being outlanded in both fights( by Lampley's favorite CompuBox numbers). but if you listen to the HBO crew during those fights you would think that Taylor is killing Hopkins and winning by a landslide. and that Hopkins isnt doing anything but losing because he's not throwing meaningless punches like Taylor.Hopkins is actually making all his punches count, but you would never hear that come out of Lampley's mouth. they are creating a mirage during the fight and thats what people start focusing on, they thats what people see because they have been coaxed. they try to make it subtle and fair...for about 15 seconds. then they go back to stroking their guy to the fullest extent. someone made the point of George Foreman being bias, which is totally true. Foreman was hating to the fullest against Hopkins when he fought Trinidad. whenever DLH was fighting all Foreman could do was dick ride DLH. " Ahh, look at those lefts, nobody does it like DLH, he's the true golden boy, he's the best in my book, blah, blah, blah." i used to think that they did a great job, but now it actually disgusts me. why can't they just call the fight as it unfolds blow for blow, exchange for exchange. instead it's the HBO fighter does this that and the other thing, he's the greatest, he's the best. the opponent landed a punch or a combo, who cares? our HBO fighter looks great by compubox numbers. Merchant does the same thing, but from time to time he'll go against the grain and say something to the credit of the challenger( i say challenger because even if you are champ, if your not an HBO fighter on their telecast, you're the challenger and the underdog). but whatever the credit it is at a minimum and then Merchant goes back to being another HBO dick rider. the article was good but, the author needs to get a minor fact straight, the Wright Vs Soliman fight WASN'T in Vegas at Mandalay Bay, it was in the Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT, USA. nothing too big, but somewhat significant. If anyone doesn't see that the HBO crew is bias, then you have blinded by their bullshit and bamboozled with their bias diatribe! showtime is going to take over anyways, they have been putting together better fights and are continuing to do so. plus they are more fair in calling their fights, i don't have to put it on mute halfway during the fight because of the stroking like HBO........ My point exactly. There will always be a lean towards a favored boxer, but the best in the biz should be able to keep it as neutral as possible. And I happen to like Roy Jones commentary, he seemed to be the only one calling it the way it is during both Taylor Hopkins fights.

Roy has plenty of boxing aptitude and intelligence, which is why his comments have been highly accurate during fights, even predicting what punch would end the fight long before it happened. He also showed his smarts in the ring by cleverly setting up punches with feints and baiting. The man is a msart boxer, and he has awesome reflexes so who are you knock him for using them?

larry merchant did nothing but hate on ODLH. he always called the guy he was faceing his firt real challenge after he beat then he said they were no bodys. larry is the only one who needs to be X-ed

I think Lampley is pretty good although everything is "tumultuous" to him. And, yes, you're right in pointing out that Merchant tries to impress everyone with his vast vocabulary. The daft thing is that his pronunciation of these "63-letter words" is often amiss. Zonk! Roy Jones Jr. seemingly always tries to shift the conversation toward himself. Steward's pretty good, but his nasally voice is not ear candy, my friends. Bring back Big George! He always spoke from the heart, and his Texas drawl was always easy on the ears. Bring back Ray Leonard, whose expertise was always communicated effictively! Bring Teddy Atlas over! Who can question his insight?

You're pretty right on, it's just that HBO I think has a well-produced show. As far as Showtime goes, I haven't subscribed to it for some years now. I think the last time I saw a Showtime bout(not PPV) was when Czyz was in his last year. you're right about being well produced, you can't take that away from them....

I want Kellerman on the crew. He could be a very good addition to that team for many years...he's calmed down on the fanboyism as of late, but overall I enjoy his commentary quite a bit.

Lampley, Roy, Manny, and Max would be perfect. Don't get started on bias when George is gone its gone down. If you think George Foreman wasn't bias I dare you to watch Hopkins vs Trinidad again.
