its really simple actually. facts for both:
Cotto:
-only real name win against mosley in a decision that couldve gone etither way
-in his prime couldnt ko malignaggi, a C level fighter who he shouldve steamrolled through
- in his prime got rocked and staggered by a feather fisted malignaggi who he souldve steamrolled through
-took a knee in a fight he was winning against marg which isnt a world class action to take. couldnt go 12 rounds which isnt world class.
-got the crap kicked out of him by a smaller man (pacman). a good big man should ALWAYS beat a good small man, so that showed what cotto was.
-won a paper 154 lb title against a one legged cripple (foreman)
-beat up a faded fighter from the 90s (mayorga)
-got touched up by a blind handicapped fighter (marg) and got a shameful technical win that will always have doubt and contreversy due to referee preventing marg, who was good to go, from possibly wearing down and tkoing cotto late and pacquaio assisting by already predamaging margs eye. dont say that could not have happened, remember this is boxing.
-Ducked Martinez in a fight that wouldve given him a huge marquee name
Mosley:
-only name wins were against DLH, in which we found that he was on roids due to his own testimony, therefore those wins dont count
-beat up on the real margarito, a shellshocked fighter without wraps who as we now know, is not that good of a fighter to begin with, so thats nothing to be proud of
- got beat up by vernon forest twice
-got beat up by winky wright twice
-origianlly ducked mayweather when mayweather was ready to do it in his prime to go take care of a "toothache"
-gassed out and was completely outclassed by mayweather
-had a draw against sergio mora in a horrible showing
-didnt fight and wanted to quit against pacman
-horrible performances in the recent biggest two fights of his career (mayweather, pacman)
-is recently now begging taking fights he has no chance of winning to take a beating for paydays
-we really dont know when he started and when he was done with the roids so all his wins are asteriks, that pretty much sums it up
Fair points. I wouldn't dispute any of those. Interesting you raised the point about Mosley ducking Mayweather early on in their careers (which seemed to make Mayweather a little bitter) and it's something I remember reading and hearing way back when Mayweather was a lighter more offensive fighter. But a point which a lot of people either forget or possibly weren't boxing around that time.
Mosley I still gotta say, despite a slight cloud as far as him being clean, was a lot more exciting and still showed good skill in the early 2000's days. But as far as a hall of famer, it's hard to say. his loss to Winky Wright is nothing to discredit his quality though, from my memory it was a good and prety close fight although I admittedly would have to re-watch it...I do remember Winky had some insanely air tight defense.
Cotto for me, has never been great. I remember when him and Mayweather were in the light welter weight division and before some of the talks began about a possible matchup, I thought Cotto always looked a bit slow and too much of a walking target for someone like Mayweather. I did like Cotto though, as far as humbleness. Really wished him and Hatton would've squared off instead of Hatton vs Mayweather, would've been an interesting fight imo.
But yeah I'm straying off, Cotto definitely not worthy of being a hall of famer, Shane is debatable.
I think most boxers use some type of pro hormones.... testosterone, hgh, steroids, or EPO. When you're in a competition professional sport it's very difficult to stay completely away. I think the usage of steroids is most common in the heavyweight division and yes I think Vitali still uses steroids.
Erm, Testosterone isn't a pro-hormone...pro-hormones are pre-cursoer chemicals which are converted when they enter the body, to a particular androgen/hormone. Pro-hormones are relatively weak and unpredictable as far as how much is actually converted by the body.
EPO is a hormone in itself and is possibly gives greatest performance enhancement in the form of punch output and endurance which can benefit any weight division. Also, I think people naively look at steroids and associate it with musculature and size. This is due to a lack of knowledge of the different types of steroids, their effects and benefits.
Some steroids are more anabolic so will give noticeable size gains, whereas some steroids, particularly androgenic ones like anavar, winstrol, halotestin and test prop have a particular impact on strength, aggression and muscle tone. Winstrol and halotestin are used widely amongst power athletes who wish to increase strength without any size/ weight gain e.g. olympic weightlifters who need to stay within a weight class. There are many steroids and CNS boosters like ephedrine which can enhance power and strength without size gain. HGH would also be used for those wishing to get lean for a weigh in and also during training camps to rapidly aid muscle recovery.
SO, to conclude, anyone who naively thinks that steroid useage is more rampant in heavyweight divisions, just because of the obvious size and musculature of heavy weight boxers, are mistaken. It's just as much a possibility for any of the lightweights right up to super middle weight to use EPO and steroids to aid explosive power, cut down weight without losing power (trenbolone and halotestin are the steroids used to maintain power whiles on a reduced calorie diet) punch output, aggression and so on. BUT, it is extremely likely and more probable that Vitali has and does use steroids. I mean, when looking at most competitive power sports, particularly with the ones that are stringently tested, the amount of people who still persist to use steroids or PED's despite strict testing regimes seems to point a question of common sense with regards to boxing. Why WOULDN'T a boxer decide to cheat, especially given the extremely poor testing procedures? I wouldn't put it past any athlete to be using PED's, especially a boxer.
