Stiverne is the most lethargic looking boxer of all time. Seriously, is his DNA 50% slug or something?
As for Wilder, yeah, he looks good - but this guy seriously needs a big name fight. How the F can he have this many fights without ever fighting a top shelf opponent???
He signed up to fight for the two most dangerous guys in the division and they decided to do drugs.
I'm not blaming wilder for fighting Stiverne this time around - but even before this fight his career was "carefully managed". Maybe I understood his comment wrong, but he said if he loses tonight, he's retiring... dude's 31 years old. He ought to have 5 or more fights in him. There's plenty of top shelf guys to test himself against, IMO. Hopefully it will happen.
The mandatory challenger is BS.
Sanchez is to blame. STILL telling his guy to "wait for him to walk into it" going into the 12th.
I can't believe he was telling him to wait for it. He needed to be telling him 5 rounds ago that he was in trouble. There is NOTHING to be gained by sugar coating it. He needed to tell GGG that he needed a KD at least 3 rounds ago.
6-6 GGG wins by a point. Golovkin looked like crap tonight. Jacobs didn't look impressive either but he didn't get knocked out.
I did not expect this at all.
That's a good point... people are expecting GGG to KO Jacobs... but we are forgetting GGG won at least 4-5 rounds and got a KD. If he wins on the cards, he's lucky, but it's not a robbery, IMO.
Is this a serious question? Damn....
Wilder has been exciting to watch, because he's gotten a lot of early KO's. But then you look at his opponents and realize most of them have been TERRIBLE. Plus there have been claims of fixed fights, which may have some truth to them.
I don't see why Wilder is ranked as high as he is... I think his career has been very carefully managed for maximum show without having to prove he has any go.
It will be really interesting to see how he does against his first REAL test - Stiverne. But like someone else said, even if he wipes the floor with Stiverne (which he won't, IMO), Wlad is on a whole other level.
Wilder is more hyped than Victor Ortiz or Berto... without even having their level of skill proven yet!
Why is Manny playing Floyd's game? Makes no sense. You want to technical-box with the king of technical boxing?
Now Manny needs a couple of KD's or a KO or he loses.
I wonder if Pac realizes he just got schooled.
Lame. Pathetic. Incredibly boring fight. So not worth the $$$$$.
Manny spent 10 rounds doing virtually nothing, waiting for a big shot against a guy who you can't get a big shot against. Good plan.
Peterson clearly won the fight, IMO. Yeah he ran at first but he won the later rounds by a much bigger margin than he lost any earlier rounds. On balance, he definitely won the fight.
But he should have realized there was NO WAY he was ever going to win a decision against Garcia. If you know you're going to lose on points unless you kick it into high gear, then you don't wait until you need to win EVERY round plus a KD to put it into high gear.
I don't think Floyd was hurt... he covered up and let Manny throw a bunch of ineffective punches. Smart move by Floyd. Smart for Manny to realize he wasn't connecting and back off, too.
Round 2 is hard to score... it could go either way. Manny definitely threw more... Floyd being a *****, swatting away and running whenever Pac gets close.
Could be scored either way but you gotta give it to Floyd.
Manny CANNOT just stand in the center of the ring toe to toe with Floyd... Floyd is so fast and so evasive that you won't catch him but he might catch you.
Manny has to keep moving forward, cutting off the ring and backing up Floyd to the corner or ropes.
Those cards were very generous to Paq.
No interested in a rematch.
Floyd is technically very good but one of the most boring fighters ever. Like watching paint dry.
The only fights I would be interested in seeing w/Floyd would be Khan or Golovkin. Yeah, I know... everyone is laughing at GGG and it will never happen - I'm just saying I'd pay $$$ to see it.
Khan I'd watch but not pay... Khan would lose.
Manny just isn't working.
At this point Floyd just needs 1 more round and he wins (assuming no KO).
Manny screwed up letting it get to this point. He just isn't doing enough... too much dancing around and ducking/weaving - not enough shots thrown.
Hard to score the 9th... Floyd didn't really do anything.
Being really generous - giving it to Pac... that is 5-4 for Floyd.
But why the hell is Bayliss talking to Floyd in the corner... say it during the rounds, take control you dope!
Did Floyd headbutt Pac in the belly when in the corner?
Pac throwing a lot but not much of it is landing... but that said, Pac is winning the 4th unless Floyd does something big.
Tough round to score... Pac busy on the ropes a couple of times but not really landing much that had any effect. Floyd not really doing much but landing a few laser-precise (but light) punches.
I give that round to Manny. Floyd ahead 4-2
7th could have gone either way... Floyd had a few good shots... Pac had a higher work rate.
I'll give it to Pac... 4-3 Floyd going into the 7th (but 5-2 for Floyd would be fine too).
Round 1 Floyd... I hate the guy but there is no way anyone could score that for Manny. Neither did anything except Floyd landed a couple of hard shots.
1:0 for Floyd.
Broner would get destroyed by either Garcia or Matthysse.
He really has nowhere else to go - he can't keep fighting easy opponents. Or he could go back to Maidana :D
I can see why Broner picks his fights so carefully. He would have gotten his ass handed to him much more often if he just fought the best he could.
Little brother, for sure.
