Crawford needs to cross the street. Or tell Arum to open up the wallet and pay for Porter to fight him on ESPN.
Just like DAZN paid for Jose Ramirez to fight Hooker.
I agree completely.
If Usyk doesnt get stoppages at heavyweight limit the change in weight classes is pointless. People pay to see the heavyweight division for knockouts. It has always been that way.
How can you just assume Kovalev was unaffected by Roman Simakov's death? That's a ridiculous assumption.
Read that article. It literally addresses him having trouble sleeping after that among other things..
https://www.google.com/amp/s/ca.sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/life-after-death-the-toughest-fight-for-sergey-kovalev-191941119.html
I say that because I know guys who have done just as much or way more than Kovalev aside from myself. Its never that easy to get over. Maybe Kovalev found a mission purpose that allowed him to continue, I do not know that. But for most, it makes everything in life a lot harder.
Pacquiao still has 1-2 fights left than retires. Thurman needs a comeback fight, could be Ugas?
Crawford will probably fight Kavaliauskas, and than maybe even Collazo -Uzbek winner.
If Spence gets stripped because of inactivity, Porter/Thurman/Ugas/danny are main candidates for his belts.
Yea I dont like Bud being stuck fighting these mandatory names.
I see Spence getting stripped.
This is boxing, not soccer. Everybody knows the risks involved with a backyard unsanctioned fight let alone a professional contest where you sign the "In Case Of Death" waiver long before you step in the ring. One of the last true gladiator sports left in a world that clearly has gone softer than a jar of banana baby f,ood. If you want to mention Adonis Stevenson, Patrick Day, and Maxim Dadashev, you need to mention the fighters that have no choice but to box as a living. The Losers, who have 20-23 or 20-50 records who time after time get in the ring because it's a check to collect. Deontay Wilders ego wants him to be feared as a viscious puncher. He has shown he can punch, but can that punch make him the undisputed heavyweight champion. Should he be able to put a body on his record, who knows the psychological affect that is going to have on him as a fighter. Mike Perez was never the same after the Magomed Abdusalamov fight. Sergey Kovalev had an opponent die after a contest and he never lost a wink of sleep. He kept on his rise to a world title. Now he is going into the biggest money fight of his life. Because you do not like what was said you still made a post about it and brought more attention to Deontay Wilder and his words. Making polarizing comments in boxing is nothing new, and a lot of the time comments are made in poor taste. But you remember who made those comments and you are going to watch to see them lose or to see them win if you agree with them. I personally like and put my support behind Deontay Wilder. It was like he came out of nowhere to make the Olympics when Adam Willet was the number 1 heavyweight in the country for the past 2 years before then. He said what he said. We will see how he backs it up.
Thanks for the essay but what’s your point? You haven’t justified anything other than say that there is a risk of dying in boxing. Then again, you probably are from USA which is probably the most backwards country in the world.
It's in there. You just need to read a little more and understand an over elaborated way of saying who gives a f***.
Bud also has less power and size.. it didn’t matter how good Floyd’s jab was when he fought hatton.. hatton was able to close the gap... porter is by no means flatfooted and will be able to come close... then we’ll know what bud is also made of when it comes to inside fighting.
Agree to disagree when it comes to pacman against porter.. pacman obviously tires out now and take some rounds off — understandable with his age.. he was gassed against thurman who didn’t apply much pressure..
In his prime pacman would put a hurting on a raging porter probably with uppercuts, but at 40? Nahh.. we saw how uncomfortable he was with horn’s relentless pursuit.. and porter is better than horn.. better at cutting the ring.. better jab.. better body work... and more durable
Porter was able to bully and push a gigantic welter in spence (which of course was a surprised).. i dont think he’d have a problem tiring and tying out an old pacman into the corners..
Of course pacman can hurt and time porter.... but the pace if goes to deep waters will not be suitable for a 40 plus yr old high mileage fighter... and im a big fkn fan..
I’d fancy pacs chances against spence than against porter.. atleast with spence he’ll have room to breathe and operate as he had with thurman.. he can also outspeed him a bit..
I dont know. I just see Errol Spence as a natural sized welterweight to me. To me Kell Brook seemed like a bigger welterweight than him. Kermit Cintron was like a gigantic welterweight to me due to his height. Shawn Porter fought at a heavier weight class in the amateurs in spite of his height and now at the welterweight division he is able to bull a lot of guys except for, Brook and Thurman.
I watched that Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn fight from start to finish. I couldn't believe that it was happening that way right in front of my eyes. The referee was non existent and they went into straight Aussie rules. Manny should have went for the kill in that round 9 or 10 and ended it. At the end of the final bell I still thought Manny did enough to win. It just seemed like Arum was washing his hands of Manny at that point. I dont think Freddie will allow Manny to go back down memory lane in a fight with Porter, but I am still going to place Manny above most of the other top welterweights there are.
when the king.. in any political power position dies unexpectely.. turmoil ... battles for the thrown..guys who used to have respect and fear.. suddenly feel.. they need to grap that crown..
that is what we are watching now.
when the jews lost a king.. power struggles ensued.. same chit
*** Yo Z that typhoon made the news over here. You gonna be good? They calling for evacuations.
With the situation at hand idk that I wanna see Errol do ANYTHING in 2020 quite yet. Being that we actually havent even seen him yet or know how this accident has impacted him to grasp his mental state or confirm the physical state of him I cool taking a step back & letting Errol figure out what he wants to do. I mean this was no Thurman fender bender type accident. Errol easily could be dead from his accident. So I got no demands of him as a fan & could fully understand him not fighting for a prolonged period of time &/or taking a soft touch in his first fight back when he does decide to come back. Hell I wouldnt expect this to happen, but after an event like this its even possible he decides he doesnt want to box anymore at all who f#cking knows.
Which is exactly why I left him out of the mix up for 2020. There are so many questions that go unanswered right now. Even if or when he is able to continue is there going to be a visible difference between pre accident Errol Jr. and post accident Errol Jr.? I just want him to take his time with recovery and not rush back. Boxing isnt going anywhere.
Nah... even floyd won’t be able to use his distance skill with that version of porter. Unless porter lets them.
He will hug, bully and wrestle you.. and personally I like watching the intensity — unless it’s against pacman who i see him winning against at this point. He going to wear the old man..
Porter will also do damage to that chubby version of Mikey garcia at welter i see him knocking him out via non stop wrestling... or the likes of marquez (pre hulk or even the hulk version) just not a true welter.
If Thurman never gets back to his top form then i see garcia having a good chance of hurting him next time they see each other... that might make fans actually want to see him against spence.
I think Bud has a better jab than Spence. When I fought I didnt throw a jab at you or to touch you. I threw it through you. That one punch makes a difference in any fight, and coming from both stances as Crawford may have a chance at keeping the bull at bay. But that's why we want to see the fight.
I called Manny over Keith from the beginning, and I will call him over Porter if they fight as well. Manny just has too much experience, not in terms of what he has made look easy, but in terms of what he has fought through. I think Manny wont show a sharp decline until the end of 2020.
Mikey I didnt even put on the list. Not because I dont like him or respect his talent, it's just that his talent is suited for a well matched welterweight. He cant just jump in with any top welter like Manny.
I said Danny was anxious. He wants to be the guy again. Anyone that he fights next is going to be in for a hard fight.
Thurman has to stay healthy. That's my biggest thing with him. Long layoffs dont do him any justice.
Good post. I keep getting the idea Jamel is one of the most fan friendly guys in the sport of boxing.
Hearing about him post on YouTube and other social media platforms.
I take it ya'll didn't serve the same time window ? Is it true he is on NSB as Cashtro ?
Anyhow, I'm rooting for Jamel against Lamont next month.
Ooh-Rah ! Chesty Puller- Unsat Marine, UNSAT ! :boxing:
No we did not serve the same time window. Jamel joined the Marines fresh out of highschool in 03. I didnt finish highschool but I joined later in 09.
Yes. Jamels name on NSB is Cashtro. Hes used that name since we were in the 8th grade.
Jamel is a very fan friendly fighter... hes really a clown and a jokester at heart but every so often he will come on here and personally speak to the posters. Which I told him was very cool of him. When he is in camp he does not respond much though.
- -Kermit is 5-7, but he has a lanky feel to him because of his reach and lean physiotype.
We have a 6-7 welter today. Prob going nowhere, yet instructive as to what young men can boil down to under modern weighin rules.
Kermit is 5'11". I've seen him in person. And I am 5'7". He was taller than me.
There's nothing wrong with your stamina. It sounds like you need to focus your training. How can you expect to throw punches when the weight of the gloves gets you tired after a while. So you hit the heavy bag. For hours if needed, in proper technique. You can run forever but you get tired running around the ring. The ring isnt designed for track and field. You need to shadowbox in a ring and develop your mental plan on how you are going to set traps and get out of traps. Also you should always be stepping in a circle and never straight back when you shadowbox. Anything else is going to come from exercises that are meant to rip, develop, and mature your muscles to be able to fight longer fights. If you say you are a good runner, stamina is not your issue. You need to bring everything together that goes with fighting. Dont run distance all the time either. Get sprints in. You need to get used to slowing down your heartbeat on your own through breathing properly.
Pac vs KHAN then winner and loser retires
Crawford vs porter.. i bet porter gives him the same hell he gave spence... might even have a better chance of winning as crawford ain’t that big
Danny vs keith rematch.. winner gets spence lol
Lol.
I would like to see if Crawford can use his distance skill against Porter. Porter closes in on fighters like a Shark.
I see Danny Garcia as being very anxious right now. It's been a long time since he was racking up high profile wins one after another. Keith is Keith. You can say what you want about him but hes won every fight except the Pacquiao fight.
I see a long road to recovery for Spence. Maybe the sanctioning bodies Baby him for a little while like they did Thurman, but I see him getting stripped of a title if not both if his recovery time is too long.
Usyk beat a tired, gassed and out of shape care salesman... Hmmm... interesting to see how he’d do with someone in better shape and the next step up.
I'm just glad he stopped him. That was what he needed to do. From there he can bait whatever heavyweights he wants into facing him.
when the king.. in any political power position dies unexpectely.. turmoil ... battles for the thrown..guys who used to have respect and fear.. suddenly feel.. they need to grap that crown..
that is what we are watching now.
when the jews lost a king.. power struggles ensued.. same chit
Calm down Z. They not fighting over drug money lol.
But yes. I totally get where you're coming from. There are two belts possibly up for grabs right now and if Spence is able to defend any of them, he is in for a hell of a fight. It just was a weird twist of fate for Spence. Life changes in the blink of an eye. You and I both know it.
It's always the same in any war. The spoils go to the victor. And welterweight just went into a free for all.
Enjoyed reading these.
Post more if you have more, unfortunately I haven't met any fighters or people of note cause I live in Perth Wester Australia and we don't get many big names come this far.
It's a beautiful country to live though.
I grew up in the state of New York, and New York City was long named the mecca of boxing long before I was born. I did not know how true that name rang throughout the world and how privileged I was until I left for the military. I ended up in places where nobody appreciated boxing but everyone loved MMA as a more entertaining combat sport. I started taking the die hard MMA guys to the gym and showing them how much they were lacking on their standup. It may be reverse for you. You may decide to leave home some day and find yourself in an area where boxing is common place and you will be able to come in contact with other boxers. I just helped a fighter join the all Army team and I hope I see him on tv some day. You just never know. You have to immerse yourself and travel to where the sport is taking place.
But yes I would love to visit Australia some day. It is on the bucket list.
Floyd took more dangerous risks than Canelo. Canelo is just starting to hit the point where he has no choice but to always face top competition because he is currently boxings biggest star.
I saw Carl Froch at a supermarket in Mansfield, near Nottingham. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a wanker and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him mumble something about "80,000 people at Wembley Stadium" as I walked off. When I came to pay for my shopping I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like six bags of onion rings tucked under his arms without paying.
The girl at the till was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them over.
When she took one of the bags and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in bags and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
That is a bizarre Carl Froch story. Pretty funny in my eyes. No humor towards you at all, he just sounds like he came off like an oddball. Fighters are some crazy people deep down inside. I wonder how many fighters or regular people wished they could have a idgaf moment like Mike Tyson. And have a microphone and an audience willing to eat up every word. But you always need to move with a certain thought of caution when approaching fighters. They do punch people for a living. Why is BJ Penn still getting into scuffles with people you know. But that was a good story that I found to be pretty funny. Thanks for sharing.
I put Canelo at the top. Golovkin is just very good at not letting good punches get the best shots on him. GGG boxed Curtis Stevens instead of going toe to toe with him. The same with Lemieux. Canelo took Golovkins best shot but did not take a devastating shot from James Kirkland. I dont think Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin pushed for a stoppage on each other. Long story short, I still place Canelos chin over Golovkins.
Pacquiao - Baguio Philippines 2009 preparing for Cotto fight. I visited my cousin in a military school. I didnt know Pacquiao was there for his cardio training. My cousin told me that they are going to run up in the mountain together with Manny and his team. Quickly I went to their location and I saw Pacquiao shadow boxing, and I was amazed. He was very fast, crazy fast... He was like a super saiyan and I saw smoke coming out all over his body. I didnt managed to go near him because of tight security, but that was very unforgetable moment. They ran in a mountain and my cousin told me that the whole army students gave up running while Pacquiao reached the top of the mountain. They thought Pacquiao is a DemiGod and not an ordinary man.
Pacquiao himself is a physical enigma. I wouldn't know what to ask him if I had a chance to talk to him. There is so much to his life besides boxing. I remember being in a hotel on the east coast US for aviation school. The hotel had HBO and I think I caught a replay of the Pacquaio vs Cotto fight. I thought Cotto had it. I was proven wrong. Thanks for adding to the thread.
Coolest.. was SOG andre ward.
met him at fentons ice creamery.. oakland
https://www.yelp.com/biz/fentons-creamery-oakland-2
i met him and was all over him.. he was probably thinking.. this guy is a stalker freak.. he had just won the super six. and i was all over him..
he was with his wife and kids.. and i probably bothered him.. he said froch had him hurt several times. and winning the super six was not easy.
my wife was like... wow... you look so gaye sucking up to him..
anyway.. he was kind to my old azz. and i am a big fan of his work.
I was at a summer tournament the year Ward was in the Olympics and won the gold. We were glued to his performance. I also am a big fan of his. Hes so smart in the ring it's ridiculous. I think it is Lee Wiley on youtube that makes the breakdown videos of fighters techniques. He did one on Andre Ward that just showed off his feints and fakes he uses to land punches. Made me wish I had a ring IQ like that when I was scrapping. Meeting fighters you respect in person person is always a joyous feeling, especially if they are humble and willing to talk. You dont always catch them at the right time. You should have just told your wife it's a man thing, she wouldn't get it lol.
I was disappointed in him (Miller) when he got caught for PEDs but, he owned up to it. Hopefully he will remain clean. It's time to go get this money. Let's go Miller.
Only seen Winky Wright in person. In the late 90s, used to train at the park, would run, jump rope and play basketball. He had more than one car, had a bmw and had a dodge viper. He was always nice to all the kids and seemed to know everybody. I knew he was a boxer but it wasnt until a few years later that I saw him on HBO vs vargas after I got into boxing that I discovered he was world level and was already a champ back then. Mind was blown because he just acted like a regular person, I assumed he was an amateur or something. I think I was used to pro atheletes being like those baseball player phaggots that charged kids $5 to sign a ball.
Saw Jeff Lacy in traffic if that counts. Some phaggot in a chrystler 300 with the windshield blacked out was tailgaiting me, then cut me off. After he was in front of me realized it was Jeff Lacy (or someone in his car) based on his license plate and that I knew that was his car from myspace.
I became a big Winky Wright fan at the tail end of his career. I loved the way Winky jabbed for some reason. It was crisp, hands got back to his face fast. I borrowed it even though I fought in a conventional stance. I was happy when Oscar De La Hoya brought Winky, B-Hop, and Shane into small partnerships with Golden Boy. Fighting doesnt last forever. I'm glad you had the opportunity to observe him without really knowing who he was. That's a true champion to me. To be lethal in the ring but able to walk softly outside of it.
I remember Jeff Lacy being big stuff on HBO as his career was picking up. I have never met Left Hook. Maybe some day I can catch him at a pro show or an event and ask him some questions. The story about him cutting you off is hilarious though. Fighters can be aggressive drivers lol.
Thanks for sharing.
