who wins this?
It is amazing to me how opinions change overnight after one fight. Not long ago, polls on this site overwhelmly had SSM KOing Pac. Now PAC KOs or TKOs a fighter who has never been knocked out or remotely hurt not since Forrest I. Sadly, those who now pick Pac over SSM points to their common oponent (Cotto). First of all, the Cotto who barely decisioned SSM is clearly not the same fighter. Cotto has a lot of wear and tear on his body and mind due to his brutal fights with some killers welterweights--not to mentioned having to come in at the contracted 145 lbs. While I will never try and minimize what Pac did to Cotto, to say Pac would do the same to SSM because he beatup a fighter who SSM lost to is ridiculous. The age old adage is true, styles makes fights--and SSM style, experience, speed, power, durability and resilence easily separates him from Cotto. Shane whould overwhelm Pac with his size and power, baring he is allowed to fight at 147lbs. Can you imagine a fighter of SSm's elk being backed-up and made to run away from a one time 106 pounder? I don't think so! While SSM would have to take some shots due to his leaky defense, Pac would face a fighter who still has exceptional hand speed and formable power and a chin that would not be dented by a fighter of Pac's size. In my humbe opinion, SSM get Pac out of there in 8 rounds. Pac would not go the distance, that's for sure. Amd for those who are hoping for a Berto win over Shane, you can forget that one! Berto is going to sleep!
Ask yourself:
If Floyd wasn't absolutely sure that he could beat Shane, would he have chased a fight with him all this time? You guys say that Floyd is a cherry-picker. Well, Floyd sees something in Shane that makes PBF pretty confident that he would beat Shane.
Remember, Floyd first called Shane out when PBF was at 130, and SM was on his way to WW.
The second time was when PBF was on his way to 147, and Shane was in his Jose Cruz/ David Estrada era, and was suffering the post-steroid effects, and asked for tune-ups.
The third time was after the second Vargas fight.
Now, if Floyd is chasing a bigger guy like that, what does that tell you? Mayweather felt he could make a name off that guy. And that he would win.
It's amazing to me that so many of these bloggers are even wasting their time analyzing a fight that the great Mayweather obviously don't want to take. Right now, you can't make MW get in the ring with a proven fighter of Mosley's caliber. He will use all the excuses available to him to get out of taking that fight. Boxers know those who are serious threats to them. Boxers know what their vulnerablities are. MW knows SSM possess the speed to catch him, the power to hurt him, the ring intelligence to match him and the experience and physical strength to rough him up and make him use energies that he never had to use. Any intellegent boxing fan clearly understands that MW is not Margarito. Shane would have to use a whole different strategy in fighting a runner and counter-puncher like MW. But for those haters who are simply begrudging Shane for their boy MW, they know in their heart of hearts that Shane is clearly not washed-up and is fact the most serious threat to MW's protected undefeated record. It is unconsciousable that this guy has been allowed to get away with fighting the fighters he has faced in the last 6 years. How can anyone one continue to support someone who is obviously avoiding the most serious challanges to his perfect record. While I do admit I am an ardent SSM fan, I'm also objective in what he brings to the table in a potential match-up with MW. I see Shane having some difficulty finding MW over the first half of the fight. But be it known, Shane is not a blown-up feather weight fighting MW, he is a real, powerful and skilled champion. SSM would eventially catch MW with something real powerful and brutally get him layed out on the canvas or make his corner stop the fight between rounds. If this fight were to happen within a year SSM wins this one hands down--unless MW decide he's going to avoid contact all night and call it boxing. Until MW get's the intestinal fortitude to sign for the fight, all of his fans need to just be quite about how great he is. You are not great because you proclaim it. Boxing greatness is about utilizing your skills to beat the BEST fighters available skills.
*sigh*
noone knows who the Top WW is...its just a matter of opinion
and Mayweather was the Last REAL WW CHAMP..not this vacant title mess...
Be a real world -class welter weight! This guy, for all of his talent, is not the most couragous boxer in the ring. He actually fights like he's scared to get punched. That's why he seldom puts any real hurt on fighters who are clearly inferior to him. Besides that, it is amazing to me how MW has manage to con the boxing public in general with his act. His fights rarely lives up to the hype--yet he still manages to gain world-wide support for his matches. Let us see him in a meaningful match with a real-live welter-weight such as SSM, Cotto or even Clottey and then if he defeats them in impressive fashion then, and only then, should high praise be warranted. Until then, all of his bouts should be boy-cotted.
I'm amazed that so many bloggers are even remotely interested in paying for Mayweather to cautiously outbox another no-hoper blown-up feather weight. I am dumbfounded that the media and fans alike have given so much credit to Mayweather for beating fighters that poses absolutely no threat to him. While I do admire his boxing acumen, his fights are void of any excitment or drama whatsoever. How can supporters of PAC really believe that he is a bigger threat to Mayweathers unbeaten record than Shane? And how can the REAL boxing followers discount Shane Mosley accomplishments and suggests that Mayweather would easily outbox him? Shane more than deserves the fight and I can understand his fustration when all he wants to do is make the best fight possible. Yet the media and fans-alike are foolishly hyping another potential blow-out of a great big-man against a great, but limited little-man. We should demand the best and most competitive fights and enforce that by not paying to see Mayweather defraud the veiwing public like he has so sucessfully done for the past 6 years. Sugar Shane and mayweather is obviously the best fight that can be made and I truly believe Mosley would not only beat him but would do so in dramatic and brutal fashion by KO!
shane is smart....he chose berto to prepare for floyd.. berto's a good comparison to see how shane goes against floyd
SSM does not need to tune-up with Berto in order to prepare for Mayweather. Are we kidding ourselves? Mosley is taking this fight because the three marquee fighters, and you know who they are, refuses to fight him. Because of his insistence on fighting two of the three he has been forced into a year-long layoff. There is no doubt in my mind that SSM will dispose of the inexperience Berto, only to be rebuffed by the Mayweather camp again because of the way SSM will brutally silence Berto. Mayweather simply does not want the fight. SSM vs MW is a HUGH PPV fight of the highest caliber and would generate massive interest and massive revenue to satisfy all of MW's demands. But it is not a matter of economics that concerns the MW camp, never has, it has always been about the threat that SSM (even at the ripe age of 38) poses to him. MW will do all of the hee andhawing he can muster publicly to get out of taking the fight. And sadly, the boxing media and public alike will continue to allow him to make million more dollars on PPV fighting against no-hopers and inferiors fighters again and again. For the real boxing purists, the only true fight is between SSM and MW. Both would easily disposed of a too-small PacMan. But I think we can forget about Pac with any of them because Pac will soon realize that fighting a real welterweight in Cotto will not be the same as fighting an over-the-hill, weight drained DLH and over-rated Hatton. However, if by some hugh miracle that the fight between SSM and MW were to come-off, SSM take him out in brutal fashion--and you can count on it!!!
oscar was old and past it and still gavw gayweather all he could handle.uhh look at who shane has beaten then who floyd has beaten, if you think floyd wins easily your deeply confused.if we had honorable refs floyd wouldve lost to jlc in their first bout its wasnt even close!! and jmm wouldve got the nod in the second pac fight!and by the way the compubox in all those fights favor the loser, more proof yet of shitty judging decisions, floyd knows nothing about body shots i dont even see where that is coming from , floyd is a runner and pitty pats his way to victories not beatings, besides floyd has only beaten (gatti) rip) type fighter his whole career, this is the toughest fight of his career.
All of you posters that says PBF will beat SSM easily are either fanatical fans of Mayweather or are in serious denial about the serious challange that Shane poses to Mayweather's zero. When has Mosley ever been easily beaten by anyone. Fighters who had obvious physical advantages over him (Forrest, Wright) or age (Cotto) had to fight their best fight to defeat him. Shane will immediately make Mayweather realize that he is in with a fighter of the likes he has never faced. Shane will make Mayweather work like he never has before and over the course of the fight will take his heart from him. I really do expect Shane to brutally get Mayweather out of their within 10 rounds. In all of Mayweathers fights when he is faced with pressure he does that ducking to his left with the raised elbow (I think to cut someone) to block punches. I guarentee Brother Nazin will prepare Shane for both of those tactics and have Shane time the ducking tactic with a left hook/uppercut. This will cause Mayweather to stop using that strategy. I really believe Shane is going to beat Mayweather up and put him on the canvas for a full 10 count. You so-call arm-chairs experts are simply crazy for simply dismissing a fighter of Mosley pedigree as a easy fight. Floyd will call it quits after this fight because the man's mental makeup is very fragile, because his only source of affirmation is his undefeated record. Once that is gone, his whole identity (as it pertains to the boxing public) will be forever removed. Mark my words!
