Interesting article but IMO you should have asked them why they excluded Bute, which I consider to have been a glaring mistake.
I had 15 minutes with Hershman on the phone otherwise I would have gotten there. That omission was rectified when they signed Bute to a multi-fight deal. There's no way he gets through that without fighting the Super Six winner.
His title reigns have been absolutely atrocious. He was put down badly by a jab in his KO1 loss. He won't amount to anything unless he goes the Humberto Soto route of fighting bums when he is a champ.
Nonito and Rachel are dumb to refer to Agbeko losing to Wladimir Sidorenko.
Agbeko lost to Sidorenko like Erislandy Lara lost to Paul Wililams. Sidorenko-Agbeko was one of the most egregiously bad robberies I have ever seen in my life. Agbeko got in Sidorenko's ass. Yes, it wasn't as impressive as Nonito stopping Sidorenko in a few rounds but don't forget that Agbeko fought him nearly TEN years ago, closer to Sidorenko's prime, and also on Sidorenko's home turf.
Wladimir was like the bantamweight Sven Ottke where his biggest advantage was fighting at home. Nonito got a more faded version of Sidorenko to travel across the pond and fight in Anaheim. Not the same situation at all.
Just bugs me when fighters refer to Boxrec as if it is some Holy Bible of some sort. Agbeko sonned Sidorenko, simple as that.
I maintain that Agbeko would be the toughest style for Nonito to conquer, so here is hoping he gets by Mares next month.
I talked to Eric Gomez at the Guerrero-Maidana presser yesterday about who they would match for Seth Mitchell. He said it would be an HBO quality fight. Neither of those dudes are HBO quality. Will also be a 10-rounder.
Michael Grant would be a quality enough step up in competition. Kauffman and Grano are garbage and not HBO quality. Grant put up a decent scrap against Adamek.
Elegele will actually be fighting once-beaten Aaron Martinez of East Los Angeles, not Bernardo Guereca. Guereca's father passed away and he pulled out Sunday.
