Calzaghe is a JOKE......hes fast for a light heavyweight BUT no power.....the ONLY decent win he had was Kessler and hell Kessler hasn't fought anyone either...if he fought RJJ in his prime and won then ok....or BHOP 6 years ago then OK but those guys are over the hill....dont even try to bring up the Pavlik thing....thats not even his weight class HUGE mistake for him....Pavlik would NEVER be a P4P champ. If Calzaghe was to man up find his balls and fight and defeat Chad Dawson then I would consider him a heavy competitor for #1 P4P ONLY because there aint nobody in his weight class else worht fighting.
Calzaghe wasn't in his prime either when he fought Hopkins and Jones.
So you find it unacceptable for two fighters past their prime to face each other (Cal vs Hopkins/Jones), but you think it's perfectly alright for a fighter past their prime, looking to retire (Calzaghe) to fight a young up and comer 10 years their junior (Dawson)?
You're a hypocrite.
Hopkins was 36 when he fought a 28 year old trinidad. Hopkins fought pavlik when he is 43. He fought Joe at 43. Hopkins is a past his prime way more then Cal-slappy, and still beat him in REAL boxing fans books.
So just because He is 36 he shouldn't fight Dawson?
And he chose to come to America and fight hopkins, and Jones after their primes when he could have came over 3-5 years ago when they were 1,2, p4p. Calzaghe shouldn't even be in the top 5 P4P with Pac, Marquez, Margarito, Williams, etc.
He said the Jones fight was the best fight of his career. That is pathetic because Jones Is WAY past his prime, SinCE he got knocked out cold. He is a great just because he beat a 2008 version of JOnes. He isn't a ATG or a HoF in my book. His so called BEST WIN doesn't compare to any other greats Best Win. And thats straight up.
If you believe his wins against Hopkins and Jones mean nothing because they were past their prime then I don't see why you think Calzaghe Vs Dawson shouldn't be criticised in the same way. There's a bigger age gap between Calzaghe and Dawson than there was between Calzaghe and Hopkins, and Hopkins has shown he can still do it against fighters that are vastly younger - Yet the Hopkins fight was unfair, but the Dawson one wouldn't be?
Personally I'd love to see Joe fight again, no matter who it was against. But at this stage - It's all hypocrisy.
That, and Joe was looking to be in America years ago. He challenged Jones when Jones was on the top and Jones turned it down. Regardless to what you think the result of that fight would've been, you can't go around asking stupid questions like 'Why didnt Calzaghe want to fight these guys years ago' - He did, and Jones for one turned it down.
Even before their fight this year Jones commented on it, saying Joe should understand that he wasn't worth the risk then as he wasn't a big money spinner.
You forget that Joe has alot of respect for Roys name, thats probably why he sees it as his greatest fight. I'd be inclined to disagree with him there myself. If it was actually his greatest fight then yes I'd say it's pathetic, but neither of us seem to believe it was.
You think Froch would beat Calzaghe?
Maybe, if Calzaghe took a dive.
I dunno why people bang on about Hopkins being old when him and Calzaghe fought. For one Calzaghe also wasn't and isn't in his prime anymore and Hopkins also didn't look that old when he fought Kelly Pavlik.
lol that makes it more suspicious that HBO did it to hype up the fight... some government official should've did it...
Wouldn't have been bad business.
Shame they only announced it as the fighters were making their way to the ring, doubt they got many buys from it lol
Boxing fans hate just as much on MMA as MMA fans do on boxing - This thread proves it and it's all stupid as ****.
Dana was right about the production, it could've been put together alot better. Anyone who says that isn't a hater of boxing, they're just being honest. Open your eyes..
It's as simple as this.
No matter what Calzaghe does some of you will always find something to complain about. He fights Hopkins and wins but it's not enough because it's a split decision - None of the people I'm talking about care to mention how Hopkins hugged him all night and faked being hit with a low punch. If Hopkins had won it would've been 'Joe was overrated', but because he lost it was 'Hopkins was shot' - Despite how Hopkins had no problem exposing the undefeated Pavlik who was far younger than Calzaghe.
Now it's onto how Calzaghe won't fight Dawson - Which is even more ridiculous as some of you who moan about him not fighting Dawson are the same who moan about how he only fights people older and past their prime...Wouldn't that be what Dawson would be doing if they did fight?
The people with this bias, constant moaning mentality are the worst boxing fans on the planet.
I love how people bang on about Calzaghe only fighting guys past their prime, while at the same time ignoring the fact that Calzaghe himself isn't in his prime anymore..
I'm shocked at how many people seem unable to realise that Dunne was in with a great chance had he stuck to the actual plan, which he executed brilliantly in Round 1.
He could believably have won the fight or at least went the distance had he kept that up. Easier said than done, I know, but he had it in him to fight well against this guy.
I also don't blame his chin last night. There were some good hard shots that landed even while he was dazed which didn't knock him down. He just got hit with one too many - Everyone goes down after a certain level of punishment, he's only human.
Also yeah, Barrys a tosser.
