Huh?
The stoppage has nothing to do with the commentators being silent for the last minute of the fight unless you're saying they knew he was about to be robbed and were so disgusted they were at a loss for words.
I agree that Floyd's legacy is already set. He had between 2006-2011 to really make his mark in the sport and instead he squandered it. Nothing he can do now can improve his legacy, but if he continues fighting these young guys his age will catch up to him at some point and his mediocre legacy will be tarnished. He should just retire and finally let everyone else move on.
I always thought De La Hoya vs. Hopkins was fixed just because of the fact some guy was screaming "body shot" and then a few seconds later Oscar goes down to a weak looking body shot.
I also believe something was going on with the De La Hoya vs. Pac fight just because of the way the HBO crew was acting during the fight. I remember steward saying months before the fight that this fight was just a freak show and that Pac had no chance. Then comes fight night and everyone thinks Pac is the favorite? You could just sense something was up.
Fix
I really do think this fight was a fix. It wasn't even suppose to be a close match and for it to go the way it did, just made it more obvious to me that it was a fix. HBO set this fight up for oscar to lose. What other way for oscar to lose than to act like if he was completely shot. There was no way he could've lost a close boxing match or an all out war. He had to go out taking a beating. He probably took more shots than he wanted to but like i have said before he took the shots in the best place to avoid any serious injury. After that seventh round i knew it was a fix and i was pissed that i had thrown my money away to watch that crap. I would've been better ordering a WWE fight, at least they make their fights competitive.
If you really step back and think about what has happened to all of the best HBO fighters that were suppose to be the face of boxing it s obvious the fight was fixed. After cotto lost and williams HBO really had no one else to carry the torch. Margarito doesn't speak english and pavlik just got his ass handed to him by hopkins. Oscar has always fought the best and has always looked for the best challenges. Why all of a sudden would he pick on some 3 weight classes below him?
Anyways we're better off with oscar out of the picture. I don't know whats they are planning to do with manny because he can't stay at welter and be competitive unless everyone else takes a dive. Moving him to 140 only offers 1 decent fight with hatton. He's gonna need to go back to 135 to make the big fights that he has a chance of winning but they won't be huge money makers such as a cotto or mayweather fight. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next couple years.
The fact that most people won't even admit that the whole event was unusual just shows how bias you're being. The fight could or could not have been fixed, i can't prove that it was with hard evidence but there was certainly going on that night that we don't know about and whatever it was, it screwed the real fans of this sport.
That's true. When pavlik, cotto and williams lost lampley could barely speak. you can tell when they are in shock because steward takes over or kellerman. When de la hoya was getting his ass kicked they all acted as if that was the way they all predicted it would go. I wish they had kellerman there to see what he would've said during the fight. Maybe HBO didn't want him there? Merchant has been close to getting fired maybe thats why they had him call that fight so that he could keep his job by putting on this charade.
