i wouldnt really think this fight is a fix but the one part in the fight that really bothers me is with 1:16 left in the seventh round when DLH's gets out of the corner that hes getting beat up in, grabs the ropes (has the perfect escape route to turn around pacman and corner him) and goes back in the corner and keeps getting pounded.. he keeps going in the corners to get beat up. and earlier merchant said "it looks like de la hoyas trying to set a trap but mannys too smart"... something seems fishy just about that part of the fight.
Not sure if it was fixed or not but one thing did surprise me. Almost everybody in the boxing world conceded Oscar would win and that it was a mismatch, but Oscar wasnt even a 2-1 favorite for this fight, thats strange. When most people think a fighter will win, the odds arnt usually as close, I thought that was kinda odd.
But Oscar looked weak, standing on very skinny and fragile looking legs, he looked like he used to look at 135, but he was much younger and fresher then.
i think the odds were much different than what the experts predicted because of a lot of casual fans. i know a lot of mma fans that watched the fight that thought pacquiao would "stomp de la hoya" my friend who comes over to my house and has seen the pacquiao highlights on my tivo thought he was going to win and immediately after the fight thought "i think he can beat mayweather"
as for the people who have watched pacquiao throughout his career. i think most people (including myself) just thought de la hoya was too big for him. in fact, i thought ricky hatton was too big for pacquiao as well. maybe im just pessimistic but i thought david diaz was the weakest of the 135 pounders and thought maybe pacquiao wouldnt even be as dominate at 135 lbs let alone 147. i thought he lost his one punch knock out power and the diaz KO was more of from an accumulation of punches.
now i watch the de la hoya fight and think it is a HUGE accomplishment with a PERFECT gameplan by pacquiao but question what was wrong with de la hoya. how shot was he? i rewatched the forbes fight and think it is POSSIBLE that this was the same de la hoya. if you watch closely de la hoya does not snap his jab very well (neither does he in the pacquiao fight) and his combinations are mostly landed because forbes was sitting right infront of him. forbes fought with a complete sparring partners mentality and never put his punches together and still was able to tag de la hoya.
now im not saying that pac's victory wasnt an accomplishment. i just would REALLY like to see de la hoya fight again.. maybe julio cesar chavez jr. even.. preferabbly before manny fights hatton....
realistically that wont happen. and i will be sitting watching the hatton fight nervous as hell not knowing how much to read into the de la hoya victory. knowing only that there will be expectations for him to win, but excuses if pacquiao loses.. ("he beat a completely shot de la hoya, he should not even be fighting at 140")
as for now id pick pacquiao over hatton. i think mayweather sr.'s gonna **** up hattons aggresive style, which would be a disaster for pacquiao.
Pacquiao doesn't do fixed fights....or throw them.
so now you work with pacquiao??? ohh i know he called you and let you know that. oh please. especially if he going to win the fight and get more money. i think anybody would throw the fight
you know what i think. im not a floyd fan or anything. i think oscar wanted to make pacman legacy better than floyd. but i wouldnt understand why would he throw the fight if the fighter is not under gbp.
Nacho made sure to over-train and force Oscar to lose muscle mass by fight time. He then followed it up by poisoning Oscar's water. Nacho was sent by Mexico to get revenge on the Golden Boy for beating their idol JCC. Nacho is a Hero today.
LOL; where are the conspiracy theories with this?
I highly doubt this fight was fixed. This thread is sad.
i didnt say it WAS a fix, i was addressing the numerous posts claiming it was a fix. i already stated that i wouldnt believe it was a fix (mainly because of the reasoning behind a fix.. Why the hell would dlh toss this fight; he would gain nothing out of it. read deanrw's post. it would only make arum richer.)
but i was trying to bring attention to that ****ing weird ass part in the seventh round... why in the HELL would dlh keep pinning himself in the corner when he had the perfect opportunity to spin manny around and pin him along the ropes. that should be instinctual. it looked almost like a gimme at 1:16.
ive tried to put myself in his shoes watching that part over and over. i really dont understand what he was doing. why not a SINGLE punch came back. and why he purposely pinned himself against the ropes..
maybe the other guys were right.. maybe he was so beaten that he wanted his corner to stop it. or maybe there was nothing wrong with oscar and thats just the way he fights......
BTW I did NOT think marquez, barrera, or morales were fixed fights. You're missing the point. This isnt about Pacquiao backing off after throwing flurries. This is about DLH being in position to pin Pacquiao against the ropes and then stepping to his right and re-pinning himself against the ropes. NOBODY does that.
dont get me wrong.. i wouldnt think this is a fix. the main reason being not the fight itself but... why the helllll would dlh toss this fight?
I really do think this fight was a fix. It wasn't even suppose to be a close match and for it to go the way it did, just made it more obvious to me that it was a fix. HBO set this fight up for oscar to lose. What other way for oscar to lose than to act like if he was completely shot. There was no way he could've lost a close boxing match or an all out war. He had to go out taking a beating. He probably took more shots than he wanted to but like i have said before he took the shots in the best place to avoid any serious injury. .
I dont get this.. wouldnt it be better if he did throw some punches and make it seem as if he was competitive. you're saying hbo has no one to carry the torch.. wouldnt it be better if he beat a dlh that is NOT shot.. or a savage pacquiao that could take dlhs punches? why the hell would dlh act like hes completely shot.. the only thing i can think of is if he is some pathetic **** and thinks it will make him be compared to ray leonard and muhammad ali and make people feel sorry for him.
I noticed this too, maybe he wanted the fight to get stopped right there?
Thats the same thing I was thinking. I think Oscar wanted to get stop in the ring instead of going back to his corner and telling them to stop it for him. The referee should have stopped it but he didn't want to for some reason. He was getting battered and there was nothing Hoya could do about it. He wanted to lose standing up then sitting down on his stool

I know EXACTLY what part you're referring to without even having to check footage (no joke). It's when DLH gets against the ropes and Pacquiao steps in and out to tag him with combinations. At one point De la Hoya walks left, staggers, grabs the rope with his right glove and GOES BACK INTO THE CORNER. Larry Merchant mentions something about DLH not being able to lure Manny into a trap because he's too smart comes BEFORE DLH grabs on to the ropes. I've watched that part so many times I recalled it just by reading your post...one of the better highlights of Pac-man in the fight. He just clobbered DLH in that round.
DLH got it worse in the 7th than he did in the 8th.
There's no gain for DLH if he loses. He is set to get more Millions if he had won.
But yeah It looked like it was fixed.
Barrera I looks fixed
Morales III looks fixed
Pac doest take a rest if he's opponent is in trouble thats why it appears to be fixed.
You would think people had never seen Pac whoop someone's ass this bad before lol... people are just making excuses for this fight because everyone thinks they are a ****in boxing guru that knows everything. everyone laughed and said this fight was a joke because everyone thinks size is everything. i and others said Pacquiao's speed would be too much for DLH and we were right. Stop making excuses for DLH and for yourselfs. Both were wrong. The End.
for all you biotchez who claim this was fixed i sat RINGSIDE that night and it was all out REAL action. i know alot of you might see a different point of view from your mommys couch, but i was there that night.
the first round manny really respected oscar and his size and power but finally threw the first punch and towards the end of the round he knew he had oscar and he could have his way with him.
manny said himself he knew from round 2 he had oscar.
manny was clearly in his prime and in tip top shape. oscar was not.
if u wanna see a fix watch oscar vs tito the 2nd half or the fake dive from boring-hop
golden johnson took a dive vs margarito.
I think some of you who think that DLH threw the fight smoke crack. DLH's style is all wrong for someone like Manny. Manny has great lateral movement and can go in and out and side to side, while even moving his head quite well. Not only was DLH'S style so wrong for someone like Manny, he also weight drained himself which made the fight even more one-sided for that fact. But I think Manny would still beat a non-weight drained dlh pretty comfortably but not as comfortably as he won. Styles make fights
Everyone asked why would DLH dive against B-Hop when those theories popped up. 3 months later DLH & B-Hop are business partners and DLH's GBP makes money every time B-Hop fights.
Has everyone forgot GBP has promotional rights to Pacquiao? With GBP having a higher interest when Pacquiao fights another GBP fighter.
With DLH set to retire he needed to put over the next big star before he retired. All the talk of him continuing his career was just maybe to make it seem like he was in to the fight? With the pro-Pacquiao theme being pushed in the 24/7 episodes, the way DLH talked up Pacquiao to be "King Kong", perfectly placed news stories leading up to and on the day of the fight of DLH being worked over in sparring by smaller men could have been to add legitimacy to Pacquiao's huge upset win.
I'm not saying this is how or why the fight was fixed, but reasons why it's not an impossibility.
There's no gain for DLH if he loses. He is set to get more Millions if he had won.

Why would Oscar fix a fight in an attempt to make a rival promoter more money?
The result of this is Manny is now numero uno at the box office. Arum calls all the shots and Pac will earn the lions share of the money whoever he fights. Oscar lost so bad there will not be a rematch. He is basically done.
They have Hatton, but Bob is smart and will play his cards. If Oscar would have won, he could have fought Hatton and kept all the money in house.
You people are basically calling Oscar the shittiest businessman of all time. The reality is that Oscar is old and Manny fought a perfect fight and prevented him from getting into it at all.
The fact that most people won't even admit that the whole event was unusual just shows how bias you're being. The fight could or could not have been fixed, i can't prove that it was with hard evidence but there was certainly going on that night that we don't know about and whatever it was, it screwed the real fans of this sport.
in that case b-hop vs palvik must've been fixed because b-hop whoop palvik's ass.....

That's true. When pavlik, cotto and williams lost lampley could barely speak. you can tell when they are in shock because steward takes over or kellerman. When de la hoya was getting his ass kicked they all acted as if that was the way they all predicted it would go. I wish they had kellerman there to see what he would've said during the fight. Maybe HBO didn't want him there? Merchant has been close to getting fired maybe thats why they had him call that fight so that he could keep his job by putting on this charade.
the reason cotto, pavlik and williams didn't speak is because IT WAS THEIR FRIST FREAKIN LOSS!!!!! de lay hoya loss 5 times already so he use to it.
and WTF does kellerman has to do with anything?!
Nacho made sure to over-train and force Oscar to lose muscle mass by fight time. He then followed it up by poisoning Oscar's water. Nacho was sent by Mexico to get revenge on the Golden Boy for beating their idol JCC. Nacho is a Hero today.

All of these conspiracy theories are just that....THEORIES.
Dumb ones at that.
If a fight was to be fixed, wouldn't you think that they would fix a fight with more favorable odds ?
-150 for Pacquiao isn't going to make anyone rich.
If anything, the B-Hop - Pavlik fight was fixed, using the logic in this thread.
The odds were much more profitable for the underdog (4-1 on fight night)
