WoW!!! I had no clue about Kellerman's brother being killed by Butler. That's seriously fucked up... Kellerman definitely knows his shit when it comes to Boxing, he's also opinionated which is what makes him Max, but you really got to give him his props when it comes to what he's "earned" with HBO... And true enough, for 90's Hip-Hop his lil Bro could flow, and you could soooooo tell they wrote their own rhymes, Max was definitely all about Boxing in those days as well... It's still too bad though, that's a seriously fucked up way to go out man... Thx, this is a really interesting thread...
Banks is definitely in for a real beating, that is if he stays around long enough to take one... After Edison "Pantera" Miranda destroys David Banks I assume there will be a match-up between himself and the other fighter on the next FNF's Jean Pascal who's facing a guy with pretty much the same record as Banks, just more KO's... David Banks only has 2 career KO's so I don't even see where he stands a chance here... Also how does Boxrec have Manfredo ranked above Miranda and Pascal??? Those two have seriously heavy hands and if they fight each other next, it may very well be a fight of the year candidate in 2008 IMO...
There's the American Golden Boy getting some extra publicity for a fight on Cinco de Mayo... And I guess that's his version of the NHL war between Sid the Kid and Ovechkin (I'm sure you've seen the commercials too). It's kinda ironic as it looks like Oscar plans on keeping up the tradition in 2K8 as well... Only if he fights any of the current Champions at Super-Welter on May 5th, 2008 he wins this time...
And I think its clear, you're the only wanker in here, spanking off to Larry Merchant no doubt...
What I'm saying is one guy sucks but Dana White obviously hired a guy who he thought new younger fans would recognize, and he's a guy that can follow the holds for the non-experienced MMA Fans... How many teen-agers would want to sit through Larry Merchant rambling on and on and on and then arguing with the ring veterans and professionals, especially when he's wrong more often than not... ?
That's because a dull bland apples probably taste better than a spoiled sour one stupid...
Though personally I don't eat garbage, and I don't like listening to it much either...
At least Cuauhtemoc 1496 makes sense, he doesn't agree that the production of the show effects the new fans as much as I do, fair enough, but he makes sense when he writes and that I can respect...
I wonder what Teddy Atlas will say about David Banks' chances in giving us a Fight of the Year in that one?
We'll probably see Atlas and his little buddy there more than we'll see David Banks in that one...
Seriously you guys actually like Merchant???
He just runs his mouth to listen to himself speak, and he really isn't that marketable to the next generation of Fight Fans... I agree Rogan isn't great by any means, but at least he isn't putting kids to sleep with his boring fairtales before the Main Event. I think Rogan is comparable to Merchant in the dollars and sens category and where Rogan is helping make dollars Merchant is still rambling on making very little sense...
Max Kellerman and Lennox Lewis do a good job, and Manny Steward is awesome, but Merchant is annoying and obsolete and he can take that "yes-man" Jim Lampley with him as far as I'm concerned...
No wonder I never write on here... For the most part whether I agree or disagree, I usually get some pretty educated responses. That I can deal with. But the cock sucking nut hugging homo's, naw man, I'm not even getting paid, so to listen to that shyte...
FYI, they don't make my kind in Fruit Loop man, I lived for many years in downtown TDot where the fruit loops have their own village, so I'm not homophobic, I just can't stand them. Just like JBubb here, they are leaches, and they even invented their own accent, I mean Jamaicans or Brits, or fellow Micks, we have accents sometimes but where did the lisp come from??? I bet JDubb speaks with a fake lisp LMAO...
Hell, I'd prefer to see George Foreman in place of Merchant and Lennox Lewis and Manny Steward all sitting at Ringside. Keep Kellerman or Lampley in the booth with the special guests and also have those 2 guys do the interviews... There problem solved? But seriously, George Foreman or someone else in a 3rd spot at Ringside with Steward and Lewis, that's what I'd do... And if Steward happens to be busy with a fighter on the card, just call up Roy Jones jr. Yeah problem definitely solved...
LMAO @ Fear Factor excitement, now that kinda stung, but I like it, substance stings. I actually meant for the kids. I mean I see re-runs of that show everywhere so they must have done well. And I hear ya, it was an insult when I compared the two commentators, but hey, at least someone in here has some street savy...
FYI...
I used Rogan as a perfect example of how brutal I think Merchant is, comparing an apple to an apple (only one apple is bland while the other is just sour and probably spoiled). I'd rather watch the fights without volume when Merchant starts blabbering on.
Wow, looks like the locals in here like Old Larry Merchant and his senial self... I guess the Twilight Zone is also a big hit on here... Merchant definitely wouldn't make a good coach, and he has zero boxing experience, sure he's articulate, but he should stick to writing about boxing and get off HBO TV and PPV becuase he's not very savy when it comes to the LIVE action in the ring... They guy has annoyed me for years and just like the Sport of Boxing benifits when new young exciting fighters enter the ring, it would also benifit if new young commentators put on the headset...
I've been a part of many Pro and Amateur Shows here in Canada, as a guest commenator, support to the promoter and my favourite Ring Announcer... Boxing was huge last year and it grew massively here in Canada... But sometimes cards change, and the fights can also be, shall I say, less exciting... Perfect example last FNF's from B.C. And to keep the people who buy the tickets interested in coming back after a less than stellar show, you better have made the rest of the nigh fun if you want the fans who aren't only their to support a fighter buying tickets or PPV's in the future. I think the FNF's with Jean Pascal, and Edison Miranda will be a throw-back to when we saw Roy Jones jr. make moves on Friday Night Fights before he became the P4P Legend we all know today (and no I'm not necessarily comparing the talents of Miranda and Pascal to Jones). What would make be buy the PPV would simply be the next fight when Pascal and Miranda eventaully face each other, but when David Banks is on the Main Event, other than the obvious KO us fight fans are expecting, the Show behind the Show may actually get more air time than the actual fight itself...
Well that's enough outta me, i'm gonna watch Poor Boys Game, I hear it's a good Boxing Movie and I think I made my point here. Whether you agree or disagree about Merchant the fact still remains, the UFC definitely effected the numbers for Hatton Vs Mayweather, which many say was the fight of the year, (but that's a whole new thread in and of itself), and we'll only know if a fresh face in Boxing can lift ratings when we actually get to see one, so really at this point in time, who knows???
JBubb you stick suck though, trying to pick apart my dictation and writing is frivolous and you really don't offer much as far as substance goes. But I can't get you off my dick either.. Are you a Larry Merchant fan or are you just tryin' to pick up Njord??? Not sure yet... I don't think much of homo's but I just have to ask you this? How my dictate now biatch?
LMAO on Rogan's nuts...
Looks like I found the Larry Merchant nuthuggers fan club in here...
Honestly though... I'd rather hear what Harold Lederman thinks during a fight over Merchant, but unfortunately the guys is like bloody polkaroo, he steps in for a second, delivers the goods, and then disappears... Not that I always agree with Lederman, but at least he has a clue...
Eww I got hit with that one... blah blah blah, jump in 'cause you haven't been laid in years either, what do I care? You two couldn't tie my shoes in the ring so your opinions obviously mean nothing to me either... But thanks for offering them up anyways, morons...
Njord,
Obviously you can't read, because I can'y make it any clearer ladd, I don't think much of either of 'em, thus I compared the two just to see what other people think... I guess some people would watch the Mr. Burns Show after all...
That movie wasn't great, and I can see why the Film Festival people liked it... lmao... But the movie didn't quite suck as bad as Larry Merchant 'cause Danny Glover was good in it... again lmao. Seriously though, look at Michael Buffer, he makes a lot of excitement happen before a Big Main Event, I mean there's a guy who's not Boxing and is still part of the Show, and Michael Buffer can definitely wake up a crowd... There's room for fresh blood on the boxing scene IMO, and Promoters and Networks don't have to sell-out to increase their over-all viewing audience either... I'm not talking about keeping the Old School True Boxing Fans watching, because we all know, come hell or high water we will watch... I'm talking about adding a new audience from the tons of new fight fans that have and are being generated by the hype that already exists. And not only by the UFC, or The Contende,r but by the fact that Boxing and MMA really is a common topic as of late, and they both can actually be found all over cable TV definitely much more now then in years past...
Well it looks like no votes for Rogan either LMAO... I guess no one dislikes Merchant as much as I do, or is as annoyed by him at least, but just about everyone said, Merchant is the man, BUT... so I guess that also speaks for itself.. Goodnight and God Bless
There that's better...
I think, uh scratch that, I know I could outperform either of those two clowns on a bad day, and I have for much smaller productions, I have always got mixed remarks when I diss Larry Merchant, and I can at the very least appreciate where those people are coming from, as Merchant does have a history in boxing longer than my rap sheet, which again to be honest is impressive. But it's the idea of giving the younger generation someone they are familiar with to help promote the sport to the new generation of fans. Boxing rules over MMA IMO both for entertainment value, and regarding what it offers the Athletes that become Champions, especially financially. But Dana White's UFC is now in essence attacking boxing when they decide to put on a free MMA card the same night Hatton is fighting the P4P Champ PBF, and maybe the promoters and networks that put on these shows should look around at the new competition and counter with something fresh of their own...
Dude why are you being an ass??? They guy writes a great Post, a tonne of people agree, and your dumb ass has to start telling Tall Tales of Robin Hood and The Three Musketeers... What the hell is wrong with you, the Canadian guy here is the one speaking common sense, and he's provided you with a history lesson to go with it!!! Karma for you my Canadian friend, great Post!!!
