For anybody trying to downplay that victory or in any way compare or complain that it was boring or Klitchko like, give the man his due. He is clearly still pretty raw and his stamina could be better but for a guy making his debut in the top level of the sport, it was a great performance. He showed patience, stuck his gameplan and just dominated a guy people assumed he knock out in first half of the fight to think he had a chance. Clearly there are some vulnerabilities but what more can you ask than a guy fighting the champ straight up without clinching and just proving who the better fighter really is. I'm proud to be a boxing fan tonight. The glamour division just received a real boost.
Wladimir is the most unwatchable heavyweight since John Ruiz. I actually liked him a lot before but after his 3rd KO loss, he became something else. Every time he realizes he's in against a guy he feels can actually beat him, he just grabs and pushes all night despite having so many unprecedented advantages. He has no belief in his ability to take a punch anymore. I find it weird that people are just starting to notice that like if he just started doing it. You can go as far back as the first Samuel Peter fight to see the excessive holding. It has turned off many people to the HW division. Alex Povetkin gave him a good run despite him leaning on his back all night. Never before have we seen the so-called elite fighter of boxings former glamour division not have his fights broadcast on major US network. Believe me, it has nothing to do with him not being american.
Yeah, I did notice how panicked Wlad was as he beat the snot of Povetkin. I am a Wlad fan and I was highly disappointed that he held so much in the Povetkin fight. With that if he had not held as much I believe Wlad would have knocked Povetkin out. Povetkin was also a bigger part of the problem then he was the solution.How the hell was he part of the problem? And you must be a ufc fan at heart to appreciate wlads style. That is certainly NOT boxing. And it's not like that's his only fight doing it. Even in his last fight he reached to clinch before even throwing his first punch. Don't believe me? Go watch it I challenge u. It can't be that every one of his opponents is the reason for clinches because it's not happening in any other fights. Say what you want about Wilder not finishing stiverne but he didn't have the luxury of tiring him out by leaning on his back and holding for all those rounds. Makes a huge difference. Wilder showed how to use reflexes, range and actual boxing skills to keep your opponent at distance. How many clinches did you see last night? Everything I'm saying is facts too. You can research it ***128074;***128074;
This khan guy is dirtbag. He is trying to do the same thing he did with Tim Bradley again. Guy calls him out for years and then all of a sudden he acts like they duck him. If this bozo would have said he was fighting him this year and not next, he would not only be hearing a response, he would be having a contract in front of him to sign. Biggest turd in boxing. Even worse than floyd
Clitko is the most scared boxer I've ever seen in a ring. What a disgrace... He was getting booed heavily during introduction too which was surprising but warranted
The holding aside what gave you the impression that Povetkin was ever in that fight?i mean, how can you be in any fight if you can't even have your hands free to throw punches. And he was in it because he went on the attack and had wlad panicked. I can go on all day about it but wlads supporters always try to say he doesn't hold of downplay the difference it makes in the fight
The only reason canelo did so good on hbo was because of the replay of PAC vs May. I hate when things are made out to be something they're not. And by the way, he fought a couple of his ppvs on floyd undercards. A lot of his numbers are not what they seem
Crazy to see posts about Tim ducking Khan on here. Like people don't remember Tim calling him for about 1 1/2- 2 years. It wasn't until Tim was quietly waiting to let his contract expire and it was the worst kept secret in boxing that wasn't gonna take any fights so he can sign with top rank when it expired, that Khan put on a show for the people trying to say he wanted to fight him badly. He didn't want to fight him before that and you don't hear him calling him out now anymore either do you?
After every fight he has, klits fans have to make excuses even go as far as blaming the opponent for initiating the clinches. So tell me then why it only happens when it's in his fights. None of these guys have a history of doing it. It's not like we're accusing him of clinching John Ruiz to death. In the Jennings fight you can see just how vulnerable he really is when there is a live ref in there. Lucky for him, Jennings was was smaller and with no punch to close the show. People wanna bring up Ali and Lennox but nobody has ever come close to doing it as much or as blatant as klit. It's a disgrace. So he can make excuses all he wants and so can his fans but anybody with vision can see what's happening.
Wow!! Ward is ridiculous. I suppose he wants the fight in Oakland like he fought the whole super six. Guys either have to come up or go down and weight to fight him. When is he gonna start taking the challenges he keeps accusing everybody else of avoiding?
Funny how boxing works. Mayweather ducked Pac long enough in my opinion that now he can beat him. Styles make fights and although Pacs style seemed made for Floyd, you can just run your mouth saying u can beat this guy and that guy and not prove it. The best time for that fight has passed. One guy was out to make history the other to make money. So people need to get over it.
Now getting to khan, he is the guy at the moment with the best chance to beat Floyd along with Cotto (with Roach in his corner). Floyd is neither a big puncher nor a volume puncher which are the biggest problems for khan. He hates a physical fight. That's not floyds strength. And with all the holding khan does, Floyd will have trouble getting off because khan is actually faster.
That being said, there are about 6 or 7 guys at welter that khan will avoid at all costs because he simply will not beat with his brittle chin. I think he can beat Floyd but I don't think he deserves that fight based on beating the likes of collazo & Alexander.
He needs to earn it and stop acting so entitled
Only a Hopkins fan or Hopkins himself would say what you just did. Hopkins landed the right hand in the first round because Calzaghe didn't have any sparring partner to prepare him for Hopkins leading with the head tactics. Once he figured him out it's was a wash. Calzaghe controlled every round from about the 4th and he would have stopped Hopkins if not for him looking to take breaks by faking low blows and things. Hopkins couldn't keep pace and couldn't figure out a way to force Calzaghe to slow down and fight his fight as he usually does with his opponents. Even with all the dirty tactics he used throughout the fight.
This is the unbelieveable thing I have ever seen. Everybody at middleweight or thinking about moving to middle are dyin g for GGG to get out of the division so they can have a chance at the titles without having to face him. Amazing. Nobody was telling hopkins to move up when he was trying to break the middleweight defence record against the likes of Trinidad and DLH who started their careers at much lower weight classes than him. The reason is because nobody feared hopkins. Just as nobody fears floyd and thats why people say, "well I fought floyd who was p4p #1 so why would people think im afraid of GGG?" Well the answer is simple. Because they can make money without taking a career changing and/or ending beating. People don't mind chasing gloyd around the ring and getting potshotted. What they don't want is somebody relentlessly stalking them around the ring and pounding the hell out them with that type of power. Let the guy break the record like he wants and unify all the titles like he wants. After he makes history, then he can move up. Oh and by the way, hopkins started his career at 175. GGG looks smaller than all his opponents at 160 exept for Brook. Theres no way he will be able to beat a mauler like ward who is admittedly having a hard time even making 175. Way too strong. If all things were equal, then you can make a case for that fight. But thats why we are getting Kovalev fight fight finally. It's almost same fight but in this case, ward will actually be fighting domebody his size.
STFU, son.
When they step in with Wlad and realize they got NOTHING they just play a game of "He held me" GTFO with that nonsense.
Who has actually ever fought him on the inside...you do know that when you bob and weave in with high guard there is essentially no way for the opponent to hold you other than wrap you up with his arms which actually constitutes a hold.
You don't come in with your arms at your sides, under the mans arm pit and yell foul.
What is a disgrace is these guys coming in with the same weak@$$ game every damn time.....collecting pay checks crying about holding while having nothing to offer....
Maybe come in with some punches for once, maybe try something else, like oh I don't know fight out of a clinch! There's an idea, work the body and muscle yourself out of there........but oh no "he too strong for that"Ok.... I would say that you don't know a damn thing about boxing but you already made that clear on your own. But you do make an excellent keyboard gangster ***128074;***127997;***128170;***127997;
The only thing about the decision that hurt boxing is that Marquez got the win in one of the judges scorecard for the lone reason of being the house fighter. Anybody watching the fight objectively would not give him more than 3 or 4 rounds. He's right up there with Hopkins as worst sportsman. Ironically, they both struggle most with slick boxers with good hand speed and mental toughness. The thing is, when guys complain enough about a decision, people start to buy in. Please stop hurting boxing Marquez. Accept your loss like a man. You're too great a champion to hurt your reputation with constant crying and complaining.
No doubt Rigo won that fight comfortably but For people to say Nonito was in survival mode most of the fight is absolutely ridiculous. Nonito was the one pressing the fight rounds 1-11. Round 12 was another story when Nonito got hit in the eye and inexplicably stopped trying. It seems he got so used to winning easily, he had no idea how to handle adversity. Donaire doesn't seem (to me at least) like an interested fighter anymore. Adding to that, Robert Garcia is not a good fit for him as a trainer. I like what Garcia has done with Maidana and some other lesser skilled sluggers but Nonito is really a much caliber athlete who can do so much more. If he sticks with Garcia, we will never see his full potential. I feel like Roach is a perfect fit for him. If he stays put for loyalty reasons or whatever, he may as well retire because the boxing world didn't stop improving just because he did. Roach or retire Nonito!!! Before you get hurt for real
I want competitive fights too. Had GGG been 10 fights from history and that record i would say go up since nobody dares fight him but. Hes like 3 fight away or so from the record and hes not getting any younger so thats time wasted. I understand the logic. Its not his fault people in his weight wont fight him. For me, its not even canelo calling him into the ring and talking crap after his fights that make me want him to move up and take the fight. Its the fact that hes ballooning up to 180 on fight nighy. Hes bigger than GGG. So all that growing into the weight deal is nonsense. Has anybody seen them side by side. He looks massive next to GGG
The thing that I find hardest to believe is how many times floyd catches people with the same trick. He says watch how I'm gonna go for the KO on this one and the runs around or pot shots in defensive posture for 12 rounds. Then he makes an excuse about the other guy not engaging enough or hurting his hand in the 3rd round. It happens all the time and I still hear people say, oh but he said he's really gonna go for it this time lol. Too funny. I haven't paid for one of his ppvs in a while. I did it for the Cotto fight cuz I knew technically it would be good boxing match but before that, Delahoya and that's it. He's in for the money and he says its a business and I respect that. He's right, it is a business. Entertainment business and it's my dollar going in his pocket so if he's not willing to entertain, I'm not willing to pay. Simple.
I don't understand how canelo or his followers or even GGG detractors, always try to play the card of who has he fought. GGG has tried to fighting everybody in his weight and all you hear is excuses from other champions and contenders alike. You really can't force people to sign or better yet, actually get in the ring with you if they have obvious fear. I'm gonna start by clearing something up, I like GGG alot for the fact that he's not only entertaining but also very good. That being said, when you see him in the ring with just about everybody, he looks smaller than his opponents. Andre ward on the other hand, fought one division north and looked like a beast at 168 sizewise and still does at 175. He's way too strong and too physical to put GGG in there with. I'm not one of those that just cuz I'm a fan of triple g that I think he can beat him. I mean, crazier things have happened but from what I have seen from both and the styles they possess, ward is all wrong for him.
Now back to canelo. He and his handlers are making a million excuses. He bulks up far bigger than triple g to be saying his body is not ready. It's an outright duck, plain and simple. Fighters like him and Floyd have disrespected the paying public and it's time we take a stand. I understand the fighters, promoters and networks or people involved when they say boxing is a business and these guys have a right to make money. What gets me is when I hear "fans" echoing those words. You can't have it both ways. Don't be a sheep, you have to think for yourself and see that although it is a business, we as fans control who makes money. We have all the real power to force fights and people are just not using it.
It's a shame that people listen to the promoters and networks when they say, on this is the big superstar money maker so everything runs through him. They are exploiting us and making us pay for fights not worth seeing. People can cry about Crawford vs Pistol being a PPV all they want but the reality is that, when you have the 2 best guys at the weight fighting each other, that's worth paying for.
We need to take back boxing and make it so a fighters legacy is based on in ring accomplishments rather than how popular he is. If canelo didn't have red hair, he would be just another Mexican good, not great fighter. He has a lot to prove and we ha e to set the bar higher. Hope you guys enjoy this read and sorry that it was so long but I really needed to vent that. I love this sport and I hate the direction it's headed.
#operationsaveboxing
No one in or around Wlad's weight beats him. It's pretty much as simple as that.
If Wilder fight him in America with a good ref that abides by the rules of boxing, it's very plausible scenario for wlad to lose to Wilder. I didn't even Povetkin a chance before I saw that fight but he had the chin and the skill to take him out. That's why your boy wladdy went all affectionate on him. If I'm Wilder, I would not fight that guy in Germany or anywhere in E. Europe.
LOL @ you having a picture of Ward of talking about Mayweather and talking about lackluster fights LOL
This is what FIomos do best...tell us how the prime theat(s) to Floyd wouldn't beat Floyd, but Floyd never fights them...
You telling us Floyd would win..thx..you said it, so I guess there is no need to have the fight now...
Great post. That's how i feel for the longest time now. It's just ridiculous at this point. The good thing is that he will be gone soon
Only reason Khan made those concessions for the Bradley fight was because he was trying to make it look legit like he actually wanted to fight him. It was boxingscene worst kept secret at the time that Bradley was waiting for his contract to expire to sign with top rank so he wasn't taking any fights. Besides Bradley had been calling him out for about 2 years. The real holdup is getting a good enough undercard to make the numbers look good without having to dig too deep into Floyd & Amir's pockets.
Oh and by the way, the reason why canelo has all those names on his résumé is because nobody is afraid of him like they are of Golovkin. It's really that simple.
Of course you're exaggerating about the holding. Be as it may, its part of the game. There are plenty of fighters who don't like fighting on the inside and resort to clinching.
I'm gonna make believe you didn't say I'm exaggerating the holding cuz that has to be a joke. The holding is excessively excessive. I've never seen anything like it. The weird thing is that the few times I saw him get warned, it was way too late in the fight and either the guy was already too tired from having all that weight constantly on his back or too late to give enough warnings to deduct points.
Let me ask you this, if he fought a guy and he's working his way inside but the guy doesn't bother to make anything resembling a boxing move and just hold and push him down and win, would you consider that other guy a great "boxer" too? Think about that.
Am I the only one that finds it curious that all of a sudden the fight with Jennings is back on since wilder won? I bet if it was stiverne he would have screaming for unification immediately
For the people defending floyd, you can argue that Pac is just saying these things or whatever and that negotiations are ongoing but the thing is that floyd set those terms and Pac agreed. Simple as that. It's not like Pac set some terms that he doesn't agree to. He signed and is ready to fight. Floyd is always trying to blame it on arum but it doesn't matter who's involved if you really want the fight. He says dump arum if you want to fight me knowing it's not going to happen. If floyd really wants the fight he needs to take it now because i don't think this fight will gain this much steam a third time.
