Some may not agree but what was said/implied is considerably different than what is being interpreted at this moment. People are talking as if he claimed the fight was fixed and really I never got that impression at the time of the comments or after he clarified.
He was speaking to the politics of boxing. Which is alive and well. Really it's one of the biggest aspects of boxing that holds it back from being accepted as a mainstream sport (along with other reasons) and probably the biggest unspoken black eye within the sport itself.
Hence the biting the hand that feeds you comment.
Now we can debate how synonymous political influence and "fixed" are. But I see political influence just a bit south of fight fixing. But a huge a problem nonetheless.
he'd actually have to volunteer to go to the war and do other things like speak to crowds.
I realize things are done differently now. There isn't a draft and so forth. Its just a what if scenario.
Since Ali is looked upon as an icon/hero and we are currently putting deserters in prison, I thought it might be an interesting concept, society has changed a lot in the last few decades.
So if there was a draft and someone did what he did.
A few good reasons
1. Poorly organized with all the multitude of weight classes and belts. There needs to be one governing organization.
2. Typically fights are for money over prestine or belts. Other than money there is no real desire to build twords an ultimate goal like the superbowl or NBA finals.
3. PPV is a killer. Nothing damages a sport more than needing to pay 40-50 a pop to see the big fights.
4. The bodies the represent the sport don't hype or advertise the fighters. Promotors do this and some do a better job than others but the coverage isn't what it should be.
I know man morrison was good. he could have had some HUGE money fights had it not been for that false positive. We can only imiagine what could have beenAgain there was no false positve. There would have to be 150+ false positives if that was true. HIV is in his system its below detectable with the current testing guidelines because he's on the proper meds. If he goes off his meds it will bring those levels back up. Those levels can rise and fall daily which is the real danger with him doing this.
I read both the articles. There is a multitude of testing along with many follow up test when someone is diagnosed with HIV. No way he gets a false positive and then it sticks with him for 10 years. They would have had this cleared up in less than 1 year with the follow up visits.
I don't totally buy what both articles are saying, I think some of it is hype or made up tabloid garbage.
What I'm saying is that it doesn't add up or make any sense for it to be any other way. HIV does not disappear or go away. Meds bring the levels down and that is the only way. Its like saying cut my arm off because I can grow another, its just not possible.
This isn't the first time he's wanted to fight. He didn't step away from the ring that long by choice. He's been positive, he got meds and it took some time for his body to adjust and now he's showing up as clear.
If some of what is said in those articles are really true quotes of his, he's clearing banking on money talking and ignorant people don't ask too many questions. I don't believe those articles are being accurate with his quotes. No one is that stupid.
I really hope that he doesn't have HIV.That would be great news! But it's hard for me to believe until there's undisputable evidence.Actually he will remain at a low readable or no readable level for HIV for the rest of his life. Its just not safe for him to go off the meds. He would open himself up if he stopped taking them.
Again HIV if treated is a livable affliction. He'll grow old like the rest of us.
This is an area most of society really doesn't know much about and no way Morrisons side is going to explain this publically, buts its fact not my opinion. He tested positive for a good few years and he was on the meds so he was tested regularly. Getting the levels below detectable doesn't happen over night either. Hence the wait for the return.
He knows what he's doing and if these boxing commissions deny him with a passing HIV free test. He'll have quite an arguement unless someone is willing to step up and explain the facts. No motivation for either of those things to happen. So he has the upper hand if he test HIV free.
I'm very familar with how HIV and the drugs work. Heavy training and dehydration can have an effect on certain HIV drugs too.
Its the only way for HIV to get below detectable levels and thats the meds.
This guy is worse than I thought
from the first article
Now they have unprotected sex. Why use a condom, Morrison believes, when HIV can't hurt you? "We haven't changed one thing, and she tests negative every single time," he says. "I've shown her everything I know, and she's content with it. Basically, she's giving me her life. She's saying, 'Here, whatever you're doing, I'm doing.' That's how certain I am; there's no way I'd ever do something to hurt that woman. Because there is no fucking way you can get HIV from sex. It's scientifically impossible."
Just to clear this up, he never had a false positive. You undergo regular testing with the current HIV medications. He's had HIV for some time. The meds that are out today bring the level of HIV below detectable for the standard testing.
Like stated pages back if he removes himself from the drug it will return. He has to stay on his medication for the rest of his life no matter if he test clean for the next decade or more. HIV is something you can live with so long as you stay on the medication and your body doesn't reject the drug.
With that said this is exactly why I don't think he should fight. Those detectable levels can go up and down depending on diet as well as other factors.
Currently Magic is HIV detectable level free too. Since his name was also mentioned earlier.
