Meh, I had fury 114-112 but I'm a lot less gung ho than most people. Early rounds were pretty even and usually even rounds are going to the defending champ. Is the result bad, yeah, but I think it was closer than people are making it out to be.
According to Compubox-> Rounds 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,11 had punch differences of only 2 or less landed. Definitely flawed of course (I wouldn't want this scored like amateur boxing) but it shows how much wiggle room there is in scoring the bout. Fury was more efficient and technically sound but not everyone values these things in the same way.
I gave 2 and 4 to Wilder plus the knockdowns. Legitimate case can be made for 1 and 5 as well.
Even Mayweather had Fury 5-0 up.
I dont see what this really does. It's just one mans opinion that you're assuming should be biased in Wilder's favor. Foreman had Wilder winning, this doesn't say much either. Different people look at different things when scoring a fight. Maybe clearing up the standards would tighten up scoring a bit.
I had it 114-112 Fury myself but I can really see the other side.
It's not just one man's opinion
One *boxers* opinion. Does that make it better. I could also just change it to boxing insider or boxing legend, whatever you want. It's still just one opinion.
There're tons of ex-fighters who give their own take on each fight, many of them great. I respect their opinions but its not gospel.
If Floyd really shows a bias usually then maybe it means something, I don't usually pay attention to how he in particular scores the fight.
I hate the fact that 10-10 rounds are discouraged. I think the first 5 rounds could've gone either way (except maybe the 3rd, as a clear Fury win). Sure he made Wilder look a bit dumb with his motion but its not like Fury was significantly outlanding him. The compubox stats from the fight say as much, with punches landed being separated by 2 or 3 each round. Even scoring in some of these rounds would've definitely been more representative of the actual fight.
I don't think it was a clear Fury win. I had him 8-4 but definitely could see it being 7-5, with the 2 knockdowns throwing it to a draw. Fury looked peak form and I'm excited to see more from his comeback.
He just scraped a win against a journeyman, looked awful doing it and is dull to watch
You're right that it was an awful fight but "scraped" is a stretch. He comfortably won every round and looked bored out there if anything. Kauffman won't even fight back, I doubt Ortiz felt much pressure to do more than win.
