In last three fights Gomez went the whole distance with some bums (nothing personal, but just check these guys' rank at boxrec). There is no reason why he should get a title fight now.
He got knocked down by a 38 year old golfer, and was KOd by Maskaev in the amateurs, and ducked Oleg his entire career.
But beyond that, Vitali hasnt really beaten anyone of note in 43 fights. The only two decent guys he fought he took a loss.
You know, he beat the hell out of Lennox Lewis and was leading on cards. Lewis escaped from rematch into retirement at the age of 38.
Maskaev was good at ameteurs 20 years ago, so what? He was destroyed by a nobody by KO 1 recently. Sam Peter almost killed him in 2008.
Solis beats both of these guys today.
Vitali is getting old and he showed against Polish dog he's beatable.
Haye would get outclassed and KO'd. Again.
What makes you say all this? It what way Vitali showed that he's beatable? Sosnowski could not land a single power punch.
And Solis's win over Haye in amateurs means nothing now, years later. In amateurs Vitali lost to Oleg Maskev. So what?
Oh come on! Yes, Lebedev was very good and clearly won several rounds (after 4th). But did he dominate Huck? No! Lebedev threw lots of dangerous punches - so what? Huck escaped many of them. And Lebedev ended up with several cuts from Huck's punches, not vice versa.
It was a very close win for Huck, or maybe a draw. Lebedev did, in my opinion, enough for a good fight, but clearly not enough to grab the title. Close decision is an acceptable result. A draw would also be OK, but no win for Lebedev.
BTW1: it was an american judge who gave victory to Lebedev. American judges have the reputation here in Germany of scoring the movement, the action in the ring. Lebedev made a lot of action and moved well... But not the moves - the result is the only thing that counts.
BTW2: Huck said after the fight that his rib was broken in round 4. That's actually the most impressive and dangerous thing Lebedev did in ring tonight.
He almost KOed Quezada despite two injured hands.
I hope the surgery goes well and both his hands heal 100%.
That's the point! Being able to box 12 rounds with broken hand in round 2... That's why I am a fan of this guy. And also a fan of Arthur Abraham, who boxed with broken jaw. These guy have both - heart and balls. :boxing:
I'm hoping you guys are joking around. The fight should be coming up next.
Unfortunately, it#s not a joke... Sad that this fight will not happen.
Most of the evening is on TV here in Germany (at Sport1 channel, former DSF).
They said about an hour ago that something is wrong with Dimitrenko. Now Kohl announced it officially - the fight will not happen. Dimitrenko collapsed and will be in the hospital. Food poisoning suspected.
Dear IBF, I've got a suggestion. Make Povetkin face Chambers, Boytsov or Dimitrenko. If he will not fight any of them - remove him from ratings completely!
Speaking about Toney - he also has no chances against Vitali, but fighting Toney would be more spectacular. Because Toney has a big mouth and some charisma Sosnowski is missing. Sosnowski is a polite and shy guy...
German is one of the official languages of Switzerland. So Abraham is gonna get more support than Froch.
Yeah. I don't know if Switzerland can be considered neutral. They speak the same language and is heavily influenced by german culture.
I live in South Germany, visit Switzerland almost each year.
Yes, smth like 60% of Swiss people speak almost the same language as Germans (the rest speak French and Italian). But for a Germany's German speaker it is not easy to understand Switzerland's German speaker. Really!
And even if the languages would be 100% the same - so what? Abraham is not going there to chat with the crowd, right?
Switzerland is really a completely different country with a different culture and different television. You can't compare the crowd in Abraham's home city Berlin and a crowd in any city in Switzerland. It's like comparing US and Australia... they speak the same language, yes. But so what?
BTW: the crowd in Zürich booed Valuev and celebrated Holyfield.
The only person that needs an Oscar is Arthur himself, he's an asshole for trying to make it seem like he didn't know dirrell was down when he hit him. He lost all respect from me. He gets a lot of respect for having courage and for dealing with adversity, however, was it me or did he do a lot of bitching about low blows, most of them were on the money, but there might of been one that he had a legitimate excuse about. He did get robbed in the since that he should've been awarded a knock down in the 10th, but even so, he hit a man who was clearly down. He should be fined and suspended.
He was disqualified and lost the fight. This is his punishment. This is fair.
Tell me - where is Direll's punishment for low blows, dirty tricks, etc?
And where is the referee's punishment for ignoring a low job and a KD in 10th?
Respect to Sam Peter!
Povetkin will probably loose his "0" to a descent fighter like Adamek...
BTW he also didn't want to fight Dimitrenko as Dimitrenko was undefeated.
A fight with Solis next? This would suck. Solis should really fight another guy from WBC top ratings in eliminator to get the mandatory. If Valuev is not willing - there are Povetkin, Boytsov and Adamek on the list next.
Sosnowski had at least 3 times more fights in his record than Solis and was a European champion as he signed for the Klitschko fight.
You guys said all possible things about Sosnowski before, and may say whatever you want afterwards, but this guy came further as any other Vitali's opponent since comeback. Peter, Gomez, Arreola - were finished after 8-9 rounds. Kevin Johnson was a clown in survival mode - he was not fighting at all. But Sosnowski, even with limited skills, was going through 10 rounds and tried everything he could in each round. This guy has a will, heart... and balls as well.
And anybody here who think that Haye may win or even KO Vitali... Well - if Haye will ever overcome his current fear of Klitschkos, the time will show how wrong you are and how much you understand in boxing. To survive a fight with Vitali Haye needs the best defence in the world, which he is lacking (see Haye vs. Ruiz)
An ukrainian boxing web site posted a short video including the knock out scene. Enjoy:

He better listen to his former trainer...
Howhever, Sdunek said a couple of years ago that Dimitrenko has a bigger potential then Klitschkos at his age. Potential - nothing more or less.
Of course he has no chance against Kltischko if he got heavily beaten by Eddie Chambers. He needs to work hard and walk his way to the top without hurry. I am not sure that he will do this right.
In terms of Ukrainian HW's i'd bet money that Platov and Virchis would destroy Dimitrenko, forget about the Klitschkos.
Hell he might not even get by Mazikin.
Sorry, that not true. Remember what Dimitrenko did to Luan Krasniqi. I think he will destroy Audley Harrison if their European Championship fight will ever happen.
Oh come on, Wladimir - leave the scared Haye and fight Povetkin. Haye must run after Klitschkos, not vice versa. Povetkin is waiting for 2 years. Yes, he had a chance to fight Wlad in 2008. But Wladimir also promised to fight Povetkin after Chambers fight. Klitschkos wasted enough time with Haye...
Chagaev has a "sleeping" version of hepatitis since years. He had it as he was a world champion and he fought numerious boxers with it. It is totally undangerous if an opponent aagrees to a simple vaccination. Wladimir Klitschko, for example, got vaccinated for their fight without acting up.
Howhever, Valuev's team used hepatitis as an argument to flee from a rematch in Finland. And Haye will use it as an excuse, if he is really a coward.
