I came across an mp3 file of James Toney appearing as a guest on the syndicated radio show Loveline in 2004. He was on the program to hype his upcoming fight with Rydell Booker. It's a pretty funny listen. Loveline is co-hosted by Adam Carolla, the dude who made a guest appearance on the season premiere of The Contender last week. I'm actually pretty excited about tonight's premiere episode (10 pm eastern I believe). I think the increase in talent level will really help make this season a good one. Showing the full fights is another good addition to this year's version. I was listening to Adam Carolla's weekly morning radio show and he mentioned that he will be appearing in tonight's episode. He said he was contacted by ESPN to participate in an episode or two. He also said what a thrill it was to meet Buddy McGirt whom he was a big fan of as a fighter. I can't wait for tonight, should be good.

I'm just wondering. As much as I love boxing, not one of my friends follows the sport. Every now and then we will watch a fight on HBO but they don't really know anything about boxing or follow the sport at all.

Anyone have accurate compubox numbers? Dan Rafael just posted his story for the fight on ESPN.com, but the numbers included in his article don't seem to add up: "CompuBox statistics indicated it was very close. Hopkins was credited with landing 152 of 640 punches (24 percent) while Wright landed 167 of 618 blows (21 percent)." I'm no statistics major, but those percentages don't add up for me.

There are so many great fighters fighting between 140-154 pounds right now. From the champions all the way down to the young prospects, this part of the scale is loaded right now. It couldn't come at a better time either. The heavyweight division has been down for a few years now. Can you imagine if the lower weights were down as well? Boxing would be almost completely off the map. Thank God for the welters.

Who thinks K9 is gettin knocked out early tonight?

This may have been posted earlier on, but Adam Carolla appeared on Bill Simmons' podcast back on 5/15. He touched on a lot of different topics in the world of boxing including the PBF/ODLH fight, the current state of boxing in general, and some other stuff including funny commentary on De La Hoya, Larry Merchant, Roger Mayweather and others. One year and two months ago Yusaf Mack was 22-0 and on the verge of his first title shot (IBF Super Middleweight) when he was knocked out by Alejandro Berrio on ESPN, and humiliated in the process. (Berrio, realizing he was the stronger fighter that night, planted a kiss on Mack's forehead just seconds before sending him to the canvas.) Every fighter's first loss is tough, especially when it comes by knockout and in such a humiliating fashion. Mack makes his return to the ring tonight on Wednesday Night Fights. He's a Philly kid so I'm rooting for him.

Does anyone know of any decent boxing podcasts out there that update on a fairly regular basis. I've found a few that seem pretty good except that they usually haven't been updated in months.
