I'm actually pretty excited about tonight's premiere episode (10 pm eastern I believe). I think the increase in talent level will really help make this season a good one. Showing the full fights is another good addition to this year's version. I was listening to Adam Carolla's weekly morning radio show and he mentioned that he will be appearing in tonight's episode. He said he was contacted by ESPN to participate in an episode or two. He also said what a thrill it was to meet Buddy McGirt whom he was a big fan of as a fighter. I can't wait for tonight, should be good.
These guys are a pretty good bunch man. 2 fighters with titles shots (against P4P top 10s, and both made it all 12 rounds).
They dismissed a former olympic medalist tonight if that tells you anything.
Hmmm....sounds like this season is the best so far. Isn't Sakio Bika on this show? I always thought he never got enough credit for being as tough as he is. Reminded me a lot of Demarcus Corley back in the day, a tough as nails journeyman who never got the credit he deserved because he never beat a top name.
I take the legitimacy of the guys on the "Contender" very lightly.

No one...They wont start shoing the fights until someone actualyl fights!
Hmm, well it says on this site:

for Wednesday, September 5th, 12:00am - ESPN2 (1:00)
The Contender Season 3: Complete unedited fight of this week's condensed bout that aired 09/04/07.
ESPN2 also does have the 12 AM slot saved for The Contender...
Who the fuck fought ?
Good question... what fight are they going to show tomorow? There wasn't a full fight tonight anyway? Just a bunch of sparring sessions, and I don't actually want to watch uncut sparring sessions.
I also like that they brought in Buddy McGirt, and I'm sure I'd be impressed with the other guy, but it sounds like he has been out of the game for a while.
You have to do it that way to draw in the casual fan. I know they are offering unedited versions of the fights this year at some point, so guys like us can be satisfied.
Exactly, now they are pleasing the casual and the hardcore fan.
The one thing that I don't like about the contender is how they make the fights look all cool with sound effects and music stuff like that. For some reason it just seems like the fights are kind of fixed like that to me, but I guess on the other side, it kinda looks cool to the casual person with all that editing.
but now you can see the show one day, then the day after you check the full fight in espn2....and everyone is happy

another plus is that it runs for a fairly short time, which means the guys who get knocked out early don't have to waste any of the momentum from the show on downtime waiting for it to run a full 3 months or whatever.
yes the contender runs every week. Tuesdays at 10 pm on ESPN
wow I sound like a commercial
anyway .. good idea for season 3 on 2 parts .. the first being its in the super middleweight division. 168 is a kinda in the dark division .. with no real big names (minus Calzaghe and Kessler of course) .. but 168 .. still its kinda an obscure division and doesn't really get alotta coverage (but its somewhat catching on .. and Contender 3 is a good help)
and secondly of course the talent level .. to have 2 guys who have fought for world titles in Sakio Bika and Sam Soliman add instant credibility
Contender in past has gotten shit for having weak fighters. this season has 2 who have been at the world title level .. self explanatory.
I would favor Soliman or Bika to take it all. (hell those 2 could meet in the first round)
That first episode was sick!
The guys who are in are all much better fighters then the guys from season 1 and 2.
Should be some good fights
I agree this year's matchup's could be very exciting. I would like to see Bika take on Soliman or Coddrington. Those would be some interesting fights.
Great first show!!! Dident dissapoint, I really liked the fact they already cut the ones that dident make weight and werent ready, Hope alot of people see it because HBO is planning the next one I believe. Heavyweights.
