Truthfully I thought it was gonna be a short fight that turned into a epic war!
Does anyone else think that Wood vs Conlan could be fight of the year?
I know we have a lot more fights coming but to me it was a shocker!
Opinions and Comments??
I still haven't seen the KO punch, the last punch was a right hand but even that looked like it missed and hit the shoulder... it was like he just turned off from fatigue.
Dramatic start and finish. A lot of the rest of the fight was messy but still a good scrap but that’ll probably be overlooked because of the drama at the end
That’s mostly true my brother
I thought Conlan was still boxing well late in the fight. He looked like he could take Wood's shots and either tie him up or move off and counter him.
I think it was the classic case of the punches gradually taking their toll. Both men took a lot of punishment in that fight and you don't really know whose body is going to suddenly give up on them first.
In the last two rounds you could see that Wood's shots were all of a sudden having more impact. Conlan's resistance was beaten down. Even he wouldn't really have known that.
I also think in the 10th or 11th, can’t remember, Ref broke the fight while Wood was wearing Conlan out. It was like a 25 second break. At that point I was thinking ref is giving Conlan recovery time, but in the end Wood came through, even though he was the lighter puncher and used his head as defense against Conlan’s wide left hook, that was looking bad until about the 8th or 9th
FOTY up until now. Will be hard to beat it.
Wood was in the sky in between rounds 1 and 2 and how in earth did he come back from that.
Conlan lacked intelligence at times and blew his gas tank. Controversy at the end of round 11 when Conlan was clearly winning the round and then it was a slip during exchanges and ref granted a KD to Wood, effectively giving it a 3 point swing. I wonder if that is what made Conlan go hard at the start of the 12th...
Wood is a walking zombie, great to watch but it will come back to haunt him later in life I guess. He knew he couldn't win on points and was confident in his ability to fight whilst being dazed.
Would love to a see a rematch, they would both make triple the money but I doubt Conlan will bounce back from that... he looked so good when he was boxing, but on the ropes was wrong to sit there and take shots (as well as he was defending, still depleting his gas tank).

Very rare you see both guys down, an epic war where they are both happy to stand and trade a bit recklessly and then a final round KO and not just an ordinary KO, Conlan was knocked out the ring asleep.
