Look what he was working with, a washed up fighter who was never a ring IQ guy, horrible footwork, can't adjust and can only rely on his speed which he's lost some of. Bomac isn't JESUS, he wasn't gonna pull off a miracle with Khan
I don't think so. Amir looked better than he has in a while, especially early on the fight before being made to dance from jabs. After 4 rounds he was losing speed and the snap from his punches were wearing off. Kell looked like a tiger playing with his food by then.
Point being, the trainer can't miraculously make a fighter great. At the top level it becomes a game of inches and microseconds, and all a trainer can really help a fighter with is strategy, tactics, mentality, conditioning, etc. Khan looked ready, fast, slippery and focused, it just wasn't enough.
Always knew this loudmouth 350lb buffoon wasn't all that.
IMO Crawford made him, not the other way around.
I don't know, but I was extremely unimpressed by Khan's preparation for this fight, and if BoMac--as head trainer--is ultimately responsible for that, I'm not confident that he will prove widely successful with fighters who come to him in the future.
Obviously boxing trainers do not need to be in great shape themselves in order to successfully train their charges, but I don't think it was a coincidence that fitness fanatic Dominic Ingle seemed to have a much better handle on the need to appropriately balance stress with rest in order to produce the desired adaptations.
No, he was dealing with a fighter who was damaged goods from the start. Amir always had a glass jaw and now he doesn't have anymore balance in his legs. It's just that Khan is now a ruined, shot and washed up fighter at this stage of his career that's all. No trainer would be able to save his career now.
