Where's the source for this information? Regardless, that would make a ton of sense for why he ruptured his esophagus. Having Thor punch him in the stomach made zero sense to me. It made it sound as if it were a bogus excuse. But what you are talking about is called Mallory-Weiss syndrome (MWS), which is a condition marked by a tear in the mucous membrane, or inner lining, where the esophagus meets the stomach. It's very common for that condition to result in pneumomediastinum. So Lopez basically did it to himself by trying to take shortcuts in making weight.
