I just can't get excited for this. AJ has been incredibly boring for a number of years now, in and out of the ring.
Takam, Parker, Ruiz etc. Those are some of the worst heavyweight title fights I've ever seen.
I hope we're going to see the universal soldier again this time around, but i doubt it.
Strange that, us UK chaps get up at 4am to catch all the US fights, yet we are all matchroom casuals according to some....
No, bro. You do that because most high quality boxers are here and most high quality fights are held here. I never really understood the staying up thing.
I just watched the weigh in and now I'm excited.
Originally I thought AJ will play it safe for a points win but now I think he will get an early KO win.
I will be watching but this fight just went through the motions. A defense against a mandatory with no build up and really no interest.
Unfortunately mandos have to be dealt with and it is not the best fight on paper but it has to be honored.
Honestly don’t care. Just dropped $30 on Pulev by KO, which I doubt works out. Still can’t even jumpstart any interest. I think that’s because I know in my heart that AJ will never come out on top as the ultimate.
I'm doing the same. A tenner for each of the first three rounds. If it works - which I seriously doubt - it's a perfect weekend.
In reality, what I expect is a borefest.
I wouldn't say that I am prioritising my weekend around it but its a top Heavyweight fulfilling his mandatory obligation so what's not to like? I don't see any other top Heavyweights fighting.
Problem is, if its not Joshua v Fury; you're not going to able to please the haters.
Whyte has taken Joshua, Povetkin and Parker. All those three wilder had the opportunity to take on but didn’t for various reasons.
Having taken on Helenius, Rivas, Browne and Chisora are decent fights - he isn’t a champion and didn’t have to take those fights , he could’ve taken easier fights like fury for example with Wallin, Schwartz, etc.
Taking on top talent and losing is not an earmark of a PPV star LOL wtf?? By this logic, journeymen should be top billing since tons of them (like Chisora) have a host of good names they've lost to.
Wilder would be on sky sports a big fighter, of course he would be - and he should be in America too. Why that’s something you want to criticise British fans for I have no idea, wilder should’ve been on the same level in America and Joshua was in the UK if he had been promoted properly
Chisora has only been on Ppv twice - Usyk and the Whyte rematch. That whyte rematch got over 500k buys. His other fights have all been on normal tv.
This is insanely ironic and why I think most Wilder detractors in the UK are stupid. Wilder DID NOT earn the stardom he received until he fought Fury. Everyone knew that, hence why I think success in the US is a far better earmark for true talent. You cant complain about Wilder fighting subpar opponents for a lot of his career (which he did) out of one side of your mouth and yet suggesting he should have been an even bigger star out of the other. It really seems like a lot of you would like Wilder if he was merely born on different shores. Thats pathetic quite frankly. Celebrate talent, not national loyalty. This is boxing, not football. I thoroughly enjoy watching Wilder, I like Joyce, in the UFC I like Miocic and Ngannou. I have no shared national identity with 3 out of those 4 fighters. How sad would it be for me to rule out certain fighters because of where there from, or even worse, root for guys I consider subpar like Whyte or Price just because they're British too.
Americans are fans of boxing WAAAAY before they're fans of American boxers. I would actually say Brits are far more guilty of nationalistic bull****. Say someone like Whyte was American, do you honestly think he would be getting anything resembling the recognition he gets here??? Do you seriously think there would be 200k+ people watching him take on the likes of Povetkin again just after losing????
Americans value winners, we simply value Brits. Doesn't matter how bad, as long as they're British. Guys like Chisora (whose a national treasure) shouldn't really be anywhere near PPV. Good on them for making a good income for themselves, but lets not pretend as if we have any real respect for talent of nationalistic sentiment. Do you legit think a fight like Hunter/Kownacki/Miller vs. Usyk would be anywhere near PPV???
Stop man. We stay up until 4am because we know guys like Lopez, Crawford, Spence or even Tank are likely the best in the world at their craft. We gather round to watch AJ because he's likeable and British. Stop bull****ting.
I'm not taking about casuals. This is a Boxing forum where we stay up all night or get up early for Asian fights, Americans wont watch anything that isn't on at American prime time or features Americans, and that's the real Boxing fans on forums like this.
Rexy the Boxing fan didn't even know it was on? Although he's had enough to say about he so what's going on there?
Maybe for the UK fans.
Nobody makes plans around a Joshua fight in North America. Almost all wouldn't even waste their Saturday afternoon, in luxury, to watch his fights. That's if they even know him.
Joshua, his belts, or opponent's standing, nobody really gives a crap about in North America.
Must be MASSIVE in Europe.
We have a lot of our own good fighters over here.
What's it got to do with the UK?
As I said, it's a three belt Unified Heavyweight Champion against a top 10 mandatory.
Where does his US popularity come into it on a boxing forum? He's one of the best in the world... and that's not interesting to you? Someone with the username "BoxingIsGreat"?
This is what the **** I mean. British fans are ****ing delusional. What "credible opponents"? He lost to both Joshua and Povetkin and his fight with Parker was a farce in which he barely scraped a win. That leaves who? Rivas? Browne? Helenius? Are these names indicative of PPV star talent? Seriously?? Hell, the Wilder's first PPV was way after he won the WBC strap...you legit think he wouldn't be front and centre of Sky Sports if he had achieved the same whilst hailing from the UK???
I personally like Chisora a lot but, even then, you cannot convince me that any of his recent fights bar the one with Usyk justify the PPV. And the PPVs being cheaper is not an excuse. You cant sit there and claim we're just fans of boxing and then justify fights you clearly know aren't PPV worthy using their relative pricing as an excuse.

I hope it’s not a classic “tall heavyweight that can’t fight other tall heavyweights” fight. The one with Pulev and Wlad was awful to watch with them walking around like mummys with the push jab. Only saving grace was the big left hook at the end.
Whyte would get credit because of his opponents, outside of AJ he has took in the most credible opposition. He has taken on opponents wilder has ducked.

Chisora isn’t a national treasure by any means but he is entertaining - he’s seen as a gatekeeper and rightly so really because he’s a great gauge for where people sit and we all know his style brings entertaining fights 95% of the time. He doesn’t Ppv very often, when he does it’s been down to his opponent but has had a strong undercard too. I agree that it’s more stretching to have them as Ppv but equally it’s 1/3 of the cost of a US Ppv.

Exactly, we are Boxing fans, they are American boxer fans. Just like at school where everybody learns History and Americans learn American History.
