Who would have had the best chance at beating Floyd?
I think Floyd was an ATG.
That said, Sugar Ray Leonard was in my opinion a faster puncher, he had equally good footwork, and was much better at synthesizing excellent and fluid combination punches. Also, he had a lot more fight-ending power than Floyd. As for a chin, he went toe to toe with three of the most feared punchers in history (Durán, Hearns, and Hagler), and they couldn’t crack him.
As good as Floyd was — and I have a lot of respect for his ringcraft — I think Floyd takes a few early rounds to study him. SRL’s power keeps him honest and on his toes, much like the fight we just saw (Loma Lopez). I think mid-rounds, Floyd puts together two or three good moments; most likely catches SRL with a check left hook and a pull-counter. I could see SRL taking those well as stated before, he had a legendary chin. I think in the championship rounds SRL realizes Floyd has near equal footwork so he can’t “matador” him, so he starts applying more pressure (like he did in the first Hearns fight), takes some heavy shots as a desperate Floyd fights back, but uses his superior combinations to hurt Floyd. I think it would be similar to when Durán caught him, except he’d be the one catching Floyd this time: “He’s hurt! He’s hurt Mayweather!!” Sugar Ray Leonard was an all-time legend when it came to going for the kill. Drops him and stops him.
I think SRL beats him at 147. 147 Hearns would be dangerous but Floyd would probably survive the early rounds and break Tommy down. His stamina usually sucked and with it his punch resistance. Duran vs Floyd would be a great even fight I think. A lot of mauling and scoring from Duran, and then some good boxing from Floyd.
This thread is soo... general, like nothing specific.. hard to answer
but of the people he fought/could've fought Ima say: Castillo, Shane at 35, Zab, & Vernon Forrest word to Roger Mayweather. If you know you know.
Tommy hearns is the only person in history i would put money on beating floyd.
You think a lot like me. Are you the UK version of myself?
For sure beat him:
Robinson
Leonard
Hearns
50/50 matches:
Armstrong
Duran
Whitaker
Chavez
Guys that have a great chance:
Benitez
Trinidad
Forrest
Wright
Prime de la hoya
Prime Pacquiao
Arrguelo
Carlos Ortiz
Pwill
Norris
Well, you can make an argument that he actually lost a couple of close fights inside the ring but got the decision from the judges. His superb boxing IQ, skill and the benefit of "special treatment" made him an undefeated legend. While he won some close fights that others would lose (vs. Jose Luis Castillo I), others lost fights that they actually won inside the ring but then got robbed by the judges. Ex. Pacquiao vs Bradley I, Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn.
Armstrong vs Floyd is a harder Jesus Chavez vs Floyd. Armstrong would make guys fight inside with him even in the center of the ring
Whitaker VS Floyd would be a harder Zab vs Floyd
Duran VS Floyd a tougher Maidana vs Floyd
Floyd is famous for winning, but if he fought all 3 of these guys I’m not sure he’d beat all
They’d all be 50/50’s IMO man. Depends who can impose their style more and dictate the pattern of the fight.
Armstrong vs Hearns?
Interesting matchup man...
Hank had one hell of a chin so despite having to probably take a of a lot of punishment, I could actually see him forcing a stoppage late. Especially if it’s over 15 rounds. If Hearns was 100% on his gameplan and looked to box he could use his length to control distance and win a decision but I think Armstrong would drag him into the trenches at some point.
So did castillo, maidana, pac and dlh
Nah Mayweather beat all those guys.
Pacquiao... :lol1: I’m a huge Manny fan but that fight wasn’t even that close. No way you can give Pac more than 4/5 rounds without an agenda.
Ain't no crackheads beating Floyd. They partied to much outside the ring to keep up with Floyd.
Prime for prime both those guys beat him undoubtedly. Bigger and better. Floyd is so disadvantaged in those matchups.
To beat Hearns at 147 you had to get inside and press the action. You think Mayweather could do that at welterweight? Please... :lol1:
On his record. I would say Zab Judah.
He was beating Floyd until he, as per usual, went full tard and lost his focus and concentration.
But besides that, I don’t feel anyone was outright beating Floyd on his resume. Close matches but they weren’t beating him to the punch and taking Floyd off his game.
He fell apart because Floyd kept adjusting to his adjustments then he ran out of ideas lol. The first 4-5 rounds was a chess match, particularly fighting for lead hand dominance.

Zab did well in the beginning but no front runner like him will ever beat Floyd.
At 130, maybe only Sanchez, Auguello, and Chavez have a chance.
At 135, Whitaker, Duran, Chavez, Pacquaio, Shane Mosley(younger) and of course Castillo.
At 140, Aaron Pryor, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao have a chance
At 147, I'm taking Sugar Ray Robinson, Leonard, Hearns, the Oscar De La Hoya(younger), Tito Trinidad, and Emile Griffin
At 154, a ton of people
There is almost no way that SRL and Hearns don't beat him but in all fairness to Floyd, Welter wasn't his best weight. At Welter, with a weigh-in the day before the fight, both are much bigger than Floyd
