Dirtiest of the last 25 years with Hopkins a close second! Elbows, headbutts, palm/wrist, low-blows, rabbit punches...labeled by many of his opponents and boxing scribes as dirty. Ward himself admits he will hit on the break.
Mayweather could box dirty, he used forearms and elbows, headlocks, leaned on opponents and held his glove across Chino's mouth so that he couldn't breath.
He's a gym rat, Floyd knows all the tricks.
True. Dude can fight on the inside. Look what mosley did to margarito he clinched him to death.. and margarito is a big WW. But mosley couldn’t do it to a smaller floyd.
Not a floyd biggie. But he can adjust on what u bring to the table.
Wilder stans are a special kind of stupid, they will cry forever because their bum got whooped...and it's not easy for Americans to accept that all the belts are in Europe..one would think they're used to it..klitschko's have been owning them for the last two decades.
Forgot about Ward?
Nobody cared about Ward. Big difference. His two fights with Kovalev don't erase an extremely dull and boring career, and style.
I've just enjoyed watching the Wilder knockdowns gif in your post - lovely scenes.
Regarding Ward, he lost to Kov 1. There is no way that smug bastard should be recognized anywhere near the way he is.
He struggled mightily with pressure fighters with rudimentary skills. He's never looked as lost as Lomachenko in the Salido fight. But it's a poor forecast for how he'd handle the rough-housing of prior eras.
His style is dependent on the era though, if he came up during that era you don't know that he wouldn't have tooled up with a different skillset for the opponents then.
It's like when people say fighters these days wouldn't be able to handle 15 round fights. Of course they would, they just don't train for 15 round fights today because they don't need to.
I get what you're saying and think it would be true about a lesser fighter, I just think Mayweather's boxing IQ and amount of prep is through the roof. He puts together gameplans for every opponent even though he tries to make it look like he doesn't give a ****.
Yeah. He's pretty bad. The fact that he's so good at it is impressive, though.
He's a great reference for people training MMA or self-defense.
He's also great, from a historical perspective, at how Boxing has changed.
It's become super soft. It used to be a fight. That's why a guy like Whitaker or Mayweather can't really be talked about as GOATs when they had styles completely dependent on the removal if rough-housing.
When you watch Pep-Saddler or Loughran-Carnera you get an idea how tough it really was to be a Pure-Boxer fighting bigger men.
It's ironic that you talk about Ward liking a fight - when all he did against Froch was grapple, wrestle, hit on the break and duck his head below the waist. He wanted no part of a rematch either. Ward is a self centered snake who thinks he was much better than he was. Questionmarks around his character, his failure to fight in UK, his retiring rather than face Beterbiev or Stevenson, and his loss to Kovalev. An overblown dude who needs to be a bit more humble, can't stand the pious bastard.
I dont care about dirty fighters. The ref was dirty in fury wilder 2, dirty with a little brown Haymon envelope.
But I get it about ward. He was a very dirty fighter and the same names that have always defended his style of fighting are the ones most vocal about Fury being dirty.
But that's life. That's how these guys roll with a big bag full of double standards.
According to the dummygraphic ward isnt dirty. Hes a slick fighter who can do whatever he wants
Same with Hopkins...only they call him a "throwback" fighter.
Floyd too, all kinds of dirty using elbows, forearms, pushing, clinching, etc. Never got called for it.
Yeah, this thread’s purpose is all about us forgetting about Andre Ward.
But yo listen, all ya’ll talking sh/t about the Coronavirus, but ya’ll must’ve forgot about the ebola virus doe!
WTF does Coronavirus have to do with a boxing thread? If you don't like the thread there are hundreds of other Floyd/Pac/Fury/Wilder threads you can post on.

Not me. I think Ward was as dirty as they come and highly overrated by many. He had over 90% of his fights near Oakland where he lived and they let him fight as dirty as he wanted.

Zivic was another classic example of a gritty, dirty fighter who fought guys much bigger than him. If Floyd thought Maidana was rough and dirty, Zivic would have mauled him. Then again, Cortez and Bayless would have DQ'd him anyway.
