UK is doing just fine all things considered. 15 titles between America and the next championship nation Mexico. Anyone having a run at the champ has their work cut out for them, outside of America the UK is in a tight race.
You can add to the USA haul if you count primary residences. Lot of top fighters from other countries migrate here. Yet you don’t see US champs living in the Ukraine, for instance.
Why is that?
Mexico has 8 belt holders and then you've got a few Mexican yanks. Population 130m. Mexican's probably have more boxing heritage in terms of their lifestyle/upbringing than brits too. They grow up in the sport too.
So considering all that, brits aren't doing bad at all with 8 champions and that's after all these Ls too.
I really don't want to be having these type of discussions on here, moreso because some of my fav boxers happen to be American and i'm also now a 'fanboy' of Eddie's US venture and I esp like the fact he's signed up very likeable american boxers like Haney, Sims jr, Andrade.
Now, the US has a population of over 320m. UK has a population of 66m. That's nearly 5x our population.
Yet you have 18 world champions and we have 6.
If anything, lol i can't believe i'm actually typing this **** but statistically that makes Brits better boxers than the Americans.
Also there are different belt holders in the same division and soon we'll see unification fights eg Porter vs Spence, so there'll be less down the line.
Then you have the fact that a few of these belt holders identify with Mexico more than the US eg Ruiz, Ramirez, Daniel Roman. These guys are really mexican.
Whether Ruiz and Wilder remain champions remains to be seen but I prefer to have Anthony Joshua, Whyte, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce etc to wilder, Ruiz, Bryant and Miller.
The irony is, like I said i'm a 'fanboy' of Eddie's US venture. So for example if it's BJS vs Andrade, i'm going to be supporting Andrade. If Sims jr boxed someone like Eubank jr or Yarde one day, i'd be supporting Sims jr.
The boxing landscape has clearly changed now. For example if you're an Eddie Hearn hater than you may aswell support Frank Warren's stable.
Lastly, despite Eddie's appeasement of US media...boxing is still only the 7th to 10th most popular sport in the UK. The boxing 'world' over here is still niche, it's not as mainstream as people like to think it is. We have a lot of other sports eg Football/soccer is 10x bigger than any single US sport (because it isnt just the epl we watch, we're consumed with continental league football, the champions league, internationals and multiple leagues/cups in England). Rugby league, rugby union. Cricket inc t20 format now..and England just hosted and won the world cup in the best cricket match of all time, so it's popularity has grown in the last couple of months. F1, snooner, darts, horse racing, tennis are all more popular than boxing over there. It might sound bizzarre eg darts as a sport, but they are more mainstream than boxing because they're on free to air tv and watched/participated in more than boxing.
If bragging made you the best then Fury is the best. If you have to prove it in the ring by beating the best he never dd that and beating up on guys nobody ever heard of is proving nothing. AJ was the number 1 guy with most of the belts. Fury had years to fight AJ but never even tried. Ruiz jumped at the chance to fight AJ and he beat him. Fury gets no credit for what Ruiz did. Ruiz and Wilder are the champs and Fury is champ of nothing right now. If he wants to be number 1 he has to fight the other champs and beat them. Beating Wlad years ago doesn't make him number 1 today. He might be the best heavyweight but he must prove it in the ring against the champions.
Lineal Champion my fughin azz
Fugh him
What redd foxx said is correct but you are correct too other factors can contribute like improper breathing, too tense, not relaxing your fists when youre not throwing punches etc
Thanks for the input. Your points all make sense. I always wondered why fighters with stamina issues don't focus more on breathing and relaxation techniques. Unless they do and it's not working.
Well, yes, British fans had to be feeling badly about Yarde.
He came close in the 8th, and then gassing out on a jab.
Did you see Bunce interviewing him? The guy was almost in tears. He kept yelling at Yarde to be proud, and to know he did his best, rah-rah-rah.
Of course there have been plenty of great British fighters over the years (we're also talking Scotland and Wales). There have also been a few who seem to be prouder of a different heritage (Amir Khan is one of those, and so is the so-called "Gypsy King" who hardly ever describes himself as proud of being British).
We've seen some good scraps and courageous fights from a variety of today's British men, including Crolla, Frampton, Campbell, Saunders, Warrington, Selby, and Smith (or should it be the Smith brothers?). Throw in Whyte, the well-known typing error, and add Dogboe (just on name alone). "Britain's Got Talent!"
Maybe if guys like you weren't so nationalistic threads like this would not be created. All I hear from brits is Anthony Joshua's resume. Charles Martin, old Vlad's and Povetkin and you guys act like his record is full of star studded hall of famers. I guess Yarde's resume was impressive as well! I won't bother responding again. It's not worth it. You guys are fans of british boxers not fans of boxing.
Eh? What are you on about? So some utter tool makes an anti Brit thread just for the enjoyment of it cuz he hates the Brits and its the Brits fault. LOL. He made it the sad dosser.
I was reading up on it recently and some of the points you are making seem pretty valid but Joshua and Yarde seem to gas out much quicker than a lot of other muscular dudes. These guys seem winded very early in fights. If it is the "larger muscles require more oxygen" then these guys should try a different conditioning program. Obviously genetics play a huge part but why put yourself at such a disadvantage? Personally I believe that there are other factors as well. Anxiety and improper breathing can tire you out as well!

So a British fighter loses and some sad goons feel the need to create threads like this? I know this isnt the most mature corner of the internet but Jesus this is lame. And no im not crying im amused apparently grown men are this weak.

Don't know if you're joking because of how often sports commentators bring it but but in case you're not joking, yea, it's a detriment. It'e because those muscles require more oxygen. Not only does this tax the respiratory system, but something a lot of fans don't know is that it hurts the brain too. It's very hard to think quickly and clearly when you're brain is deprived of oxygen because the muscles are competing with it. That's why guys who don't take damage but punch themselves out look dazed and stupid. They can't think clearly when gassed.
