Let me state before anything , I am not a fan of Wilder or AJ
British refs seem to be quick to call a fight over
So , just curious to see everyone’s opinion
Had it been a British ref , do you believe he would of waved the fight over after the brutal knockdown
Or , had he made it up before the ten count , would he have let the fight continue or not
Before you get all riled up , just curious to see a wide variety of opinions
It gets said a bit on here. I'm not sure it's true.
For one, Fury's eyes weren't closed. We don't know what state he was in, but he was certainly looking up.
For two, do British refs really wave fights off without a count? I went back and watched the Whyte knockout of Chisora... if a fight was going to be waved straight off that would be it.
The ref didn't though. He was still counting when Chisora's team were jumping in the ring! Even when Chisora was very clearly out.
I’ve noticed over the years , watching some fights that British refs seem to jump the gun quickly
I was just looking for some feedback
And Fury said he was out for the first five and if I recall his eyes were closed until he was risen from the dead
And also yesterday their was a fight called prematurely at the WBSS , still trying to find out if the ref was British or not
The reason for this thread is because I honestly believe a British ref would of waved the fight off against Fury
Having his eyes closed and all , that is my belief
I find British refs are quick to the draw

Worst I can think of too and I’m no particular fan of Dimitrenko.
Plenty of bad stoppages in boxing period. The Wilder/Fury fight is an excellent example of how a referee should do his job .
We agree there.
The worst stoppage I've seen last year was Jennings vs Dimitrenko.

Also too many late stoppages in the US. I don't think it's as general as people make things out to be.

Yeah and dodgy American score cards are quick to score it a draw when the American fighter loses.
Not disagreeing with you
This is not me vs Britain
I’m not British and I’m not American
Just something I noticed about British refs
Now can I have your opinion without bias

Let's be clear, that fight gets waved off no matter where it is in the world. The referee counted to ten but even if they were slow with the count he couldn't continue.
I thought Jack Reiss did a brilliant job in the Wilder v Fury fight. He said beforehand he'd give the fighters every chance to obey his instructions and continue. That's what he did.
People get hung up on what they see on their screen. But they don't see what the ref does. They don't get on their knees and look the fighter in the eyes.
Reiss saw Fury was a chance so he counted. I think every ref makes that same call when they are over a downed fighter. And not for one second do I believe Fury's claims that he was out until 5 - he's playing into the myth.

:hitit:YThere was nothing wrong with the stoppage. Breazeale was on his knee at 10 and damn near fell over when the ref waved it.
Why is this even being questioned?
True but for paying fans they think a littlevdifferent. It's early in fight so give Brazil benefit of doubt kind of th ing.
But stoppage was along lines of how fights are stopped now so people should be used to it now. If it was year 1940 then it would be premature.
But it's Brazil's fault. He shouldn't be on floor in first place. Wilder never been down so what's Brazil's excuse? What can be take out of wilders book. Wilder refuses to be down there. Brazil just feels comfortable down there
A Brit ref would've waved it when Wilder sent breazeale reeling. Them motha****as ain't got the stomach for violence ya feel me, cuz?
I hear you loud and clear
That’s why I laid it out their
Imo , British refs are quick to call off a fight
Had their been a British ref in the Wilder vs Fury match , I honestly believe Wilder would of walked away from that fight with a W

Not all British refs are the same.
Most would start a count in a high level fight like that but then stop the count at 5 when they realise the guy has no chance.
Some would wave it off instantly upon seeing the concussiveness of the punch, some would do what this ref did and give a full 10 count.
It depends on the ref and the level of the fight. Most of the British stoppages happen involving prospects where the journeyman is likely to continue taking a beating and there isn't even a title on the line.
For world title fights British refs are a little more lenient.
Thank you brother
That’s what I’m curious about
I find British refs are quicker to wave a fight off
Just curious and maybe wrong but wanna hear different theories

Unless it's a Joe Calzaghe fight..........
I totally agree and maybe I did not make myself clear
Would a British ref have waved off the fight without a count or not
Had he gotten up , do you think a British ref would have let him continue
The reason I ask is because I find a British ref is faster to wave a fight off
