These two are no doubt the top mexican fighters atm, but who should be regarded as the superior and therefore bestest mexican?
We know Estrada will never be nearly as popular or rich as ginger because majority of fans don't care about midget fights but...
- between the two, who's the more skilled fighter?
- Who has the best resume, Canelo or Gallo?
- If they were the same size, let's say both were Welters or SW, who would win in a fight?
Imo Canelo is the superior fighter in all 3 depths as proven by his victory over GGG alone. Defeating (even if he just eeked out a victory) an undefeated, ATG middleweight (in a p4p sense) widely considered as the most feared boxer on the division and the planet as a whole, triumphs everything Estrada has done so far. Nelo's victories over the likes of Cotto, Trout, Lara, etc only add to such impressive feat.
Gallo has some pretty good victories but he hasn't beaten anyone nearly as great as GGG
I get your points, great points, but... Gallo has clearly dominated a top 10 p4p fighter as the challenger while the champ is still in his prime. Canelo has never done that.
This, all day. Juan was fighting a monster.
Green K sent.
I have to see Estrada versus Yafai & Ancanjas to get better opinions. It's ridiculously close though.
Estrada is way superior to those fighters.
Of fact, Alejandro Santiago beat Ancajas and Jiga González beat Yafai, both fighters were robbed, but yeah, it's pretty close
Rung is better than anyone on Canelo's resume, including GGG. How dominant did Canelo look in the GGG fights? Exactly.
Not even close.
thissss
Canelo always fights like he know he is winning in 2 score cards, he has no hurry at all to seem impressive... ginger double standards
Even though he won last night, I feel Estrada is in the decline at his young age, when SSR turned southpaw, I didn't see Estrada make any adjustments, he's lucky SSR fought orthodox for the majority of the fight. In a rematch, I'll take SSR.
To answer the question, two years ago, Estrada easy, today, probably Canelo.
Rung was beaten with his southpaw style the first time, but it was close. This time he tried orthodox with a mix of southpaw, he was soundly beaten out of his senses in that style, too. He was almost done at times. I don't wanna see a 3rd fight.
Canelo is the best Mexican fighter in the planet and top 5 p4p world.
Estrada barely cracks top 10 and Luis Nery and Miguel Berchelt have legit claims for #2 but Canelo is clearly #1.

He did look great. No doubt about it. But the same guy he beat beat him the last time they fought and two others beat him as well. A couple more fights like that and I might rate him with Canelo but the poll says more think he is better than Canelo so maybe he is. He looked amazing last night.
If you look at all these so called P4P boxers, you'll see all their last fights were cans. Not Estrada. What a heart, determination, toughness. Respect.
Bolio, I know you appreciated what you saw last night. You and I and others here are a long time boxing fans, although we disagree at times.
Estrada now is the best fighter in the world, no one else is even close. I'm talking about boxing skills. The guy he was fighting was a stronger bigger fighter, with skills and grit. I had him beating him the first time and this time he almost whitewashed him, with style.
He's the first fighter in all boxing I can now comfortably say is GREAT.
Didnt you guys say that Estrada lost to Roman because he had to starve himself to 112? But now he faced a bigger and stronger Sor at 115? Lol which is it?
Canelo weighed in at 160 the same as GGG. He recorded a fight night weight of 170 the same as GGG so where was Canelo's physical disadvantage? Canelo had grown into a full middleweight by the time he fought GGG. His 154 pound days were over. I do think Canelo is better Than Estrada by his boxing record and the consistent excellence of his fights and he always learns and improves fight after fight. He has defeated more champions and famous fighters.
Two fighters can weigh the same at the weigh in but that dont mean they are the same size. Mikey Garcia bulked up for Spence but does that make him a WW? Not to compare those fighters but just an example.
GG is a career MW who boils down to 160 while Canelo had to move up. GG is naturally bigger, taller and has longer reach so he does have advantages.
This is the same reason why very few people gave him a shot to beat GG.

Estrada is more diverse than Canelo is. Not as strong or powerful P4P, but the superior ring general no doubt.
Estrada has the better resume with wins over Sor, Viloria and Cuadras. The other names were shot though so don't mean anything.
Canelo only has Trout as he didn't beat G either time or Lara. Others like Mosley, Cotto and the like meant nothing due to being finished. Khan was too small for it to register.
So yeah, Estrada gets my vote.
I'd go with Estrada. He's more versatile and fluid than Canelo. I think last night every real boxing fan appreciated what they saw. I'm honoring him with my avi.
I can't remember the last time I saw Canelo really dominant like that in a fight against another good fighter. He did look great. No doubt about it. But the same guy he beat beat him the last time they fought and two others beat him as well. A couple more fights like that and I might rate him with Canelo but the poll says more think he is better than Canelo so maybe he is. He looked amazing last night.
Official record says Roman beat Estrada and that’s all that matters.
And as far as GG not being as good as Roman, that’s not true. They were fairly even at the time.. but Canelo fought him with a physical disadvantage unlike Estrada.
Cotto may not have been in his prime but Canelo was a young pup when they fought and he won.
It’s not just black and white. You also have to take circumstances into account when rating victories.Canelo weighed in at 160 the same as GGG. Canelo is better both pfp and by his boxing record. Estrada fought a great fight but he has 3 losses. I think Canelo lost two very close fights to GGG but GGG was the best in the world and better than the three guys who beat Estrada. Overall Canelo has a better record against stronger competition and has performed better. Both are excellent.
