wtf is this guy doing? Haymon has been sending him his scraps all year. I mean I like the Easter-Barthelemy fight but that's pretty much an FS1 tier matchup tbh. They spent a bunch of money promoting Shields vs Hammer and it did terrible ratings. They also lost out on signing Devin Haney to DAZN which is a bad look because they featured him on Showbox 3 times before. Not a good year for Showtime boxing.
Ratings mean nothing on premium cable. If only one person watches the next Wilder fight but that one person subscribed just for that fight then that's a win for Showtime. They don't sell ads. They make money off of subscribers. As long as boxing is retaining subs they're happy. HBO's survey revealed the opposite. That's why despite having better ratings, and the biggest star in the sport they dropped boxing.
I know how the subscription model works. I'm just asking you why the Showtime boxing ratings are so low if the subscribers supposedly care about boxing so much.
Floyd/Canelo
Floyd/Pac (joint)
Floyd/McGregor
The 3 highest selling PPV's of all time
And almost half their subscribe base says boxing on Showtime is very important to them. Meaning they're retaining subs because of boxing.
On the other hand HBO's survey of subs said boxing wasn't important to them.
Floyd ain't coming back. And if the subscribers care so much about boxing then why are the ratings so low?
Damn Well...Espinoza better get on the phone and beg Mayweather to comeback :lol1:
Showtime has already been begging Floyd to come back. Remember when Jimmy Lennon jr kept asking Floyd if he would rematch Pacquiao after the Broner fight?
I already canceled showtime. There is no point to keeping it FOX, DAZN, ESPN, ESPN+, FS1 are all airing better and more fights then showtime is. Showtime is now clear dead last in networks airing boxing fights. And if showtime does get a good fight it will be PPV anyway. Haymon screwed Espinoza bad taking half his roster to FOX and then DAZN and ESPN scooped up all the other top fighters. He is left with whatever scraps Haymon occasionally throws his way.
Not a good year thus far? Sure, but why the hell would they drop him? He's the one that made the Mayweather deal and made SHO the equal of HBO, and eventually it's superior. HBO dominated for years and he changed that by getting the Floyd deal, which eventually led to getting all of GBP and Haymon fighters.
Haymon sent a lot of his top names on FOX in the first half of the year. Doesn't mean that will continue. Espinoza's plan is still to air the GRJ/LSC fight later this year as well as the 154 unification bout, preferably Charlo vs Hurd.
FOX getting the top names from their new deal was expected, but Haymon will soon to need to distribute names to both networks equally. I mean SHO still got the biggest PBC fighter in Wilder, and eventually hope to get the Joshua fight on SHO PPV.
So yeah, firing a guy that led the start to HBO's demise and making SHO the premium cable leader in boxing while putting on three of the four biggest PPVs ever is suspect to say the least.
This right here is seeing the glass half full.
For the majority of us, showtime has been utter garbage for a little while now. They were on fire a couple years back then Al Haymon started making his own network deals and Espinoza got caught in the backdraft.
They made money off Pacquiao and Wilder's PPV. And they got Wilder's next fight.
Espinoza has made Showtime a fortune off boxing.
please show me the evidence that they have "made a fortune".

There isn't a hope in hell of that happening now. Even if they could afford to outbid DAZN, which they can't, Hearn and AJ no longer trust Espinoza after he told lies about them on behalf of Finkel and Wilder.
Nope! Pacquiao Thurman will be on Fox PPV.
SOURCES: Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman are closing in on a deal for a FOX PPV welterweight title bout that’s being pegged for July 20 in Las Vegas. There doesn’t appear to be any big hurdles to clear in completing deal. Big-time fight this summer— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) April 24, 2019

Only 4 about to be 5 months into the year, lets see how the rest of the year plays out. Losing Devin Haney, probably will ultimately lose Jaron "Boots" Ennis and Clarissa Shields as well.
Still have Wilder and I'm assuming Pacquiao vs Thurman would be on Showtime PPV as well. Keeping Wilder with Showtime probably Saves him...For Now

Espinoza, Showtime’s president for sports and event programming, thinks Haney is on the cusp of becoming a “Showtime Championship Boxing” fighter.
lol Espinoza wanted Haney real bad. That's a huge L for him.

Showtime Boxing been on its way out for a while. Espinoza is paying Haymon alot of money to help him by doing what ever the hell he has to do to get the big fights on Showtime PPV. The problem they are not willing to compete with DAZN or ESPN financially so rather than counter offer they are just digging in refusing and refusing in the hope people like Hearn and Arum, Joshua or Crawford give in and take a deal on Showtime for less money to get the fights they want.
Thats why we are seeing all this weirdness. 100mill offers turned down, people calling 10x their best payday lowballs, or with Crawford just pretending he doesnt exist or doesnt count. They are not going to budge until everybody crosses the street to Showtime PPV because thats going to make Espinoza happy, Al Haymon rich and everybody else a lttle bit poorer than they needed to of been. Fighters could of made more money, promoters and managers could of made more money and the fans would be getting all these fights cheaper than they will on Showtime PPV.
Espinoza brought up Dmitry Bivol as a soon to be free agent they are looking into. Believes Sho has the best opponents — thus, future— for Bivol in Adonis Stevenson, Badou Jack, Marcus Browne, and Eleider Alvarez—says Alvarez will definitely be with Sho after the Kovalev fight.— Sean Nam (@seanpasbon) November 19, 2018
Alvarez will "definitely" be with Showtime after the Kovalev fight lmao.
Floyd is gone. I'm talking about 2019 bro. Showtime has been weak this year.
Sure, but to fire him because of that? Who had a better 2017 and 2018 then SHO?
And to be honest, with more dates the quality of the shows dropped. Not like FOX has had GREAT shows. I mean nothing wrong at all with most of them, but they are just getting the big names for the time being. Let's see how this plays out.
