And yeah I used the phrase in the past but I see now it's totally wrong.
If you don't "take it from the champ" it's already considered in the rules. If the fight goes to a draw, the champ remains the champ.
Fights are decided on round by round.
If a round is close will you score it for the champ because he's the champ? no...
So what more do you want? the champ already has the nod.
Yes, you're right. The criteria doesn't change for a championship bout. The guy who wins, should win.
This usually happens anyway.
Besides the Hagler SRL fight, most new champs did ''take'' the title.
SRL pitty patted the crown off of Hagler's head by the slimmest of margins.

Unwritten rules
EVERY sport has them
As a fighter, you'd want to make your mark by doing just that....taking the title, not being given it. Same difference yeah but that's what makes fighting for a title more significant than some rudimentary fight.
A fighter should have to try harder, do more if they want to dethrone the champ.

I have indeed boxed for a long time and boxing is scored round by round, the champions advantage is that if it goes to a draw, he keeps the belt.
Do you understand that not everyone is a knock out artist? Fighters like Tevin Farmer have like 5 stoppages, how do you expect him to ever win a championship fight if the close rounds go by default to the champ? It is simply not fair
No, but bias doesn't have to be conscious.
When you're watching a star, you naturally look for what they're doing. It's very hard to be completely objective. The narrative of the fight does matter. It shouldn't, but it does.
It's a pretty simple premise. If it's close you can lose a close one or draw - that's just a universal truth. That's true regardless of the levels of the fighters. Scoring isn't an exact science. If you're the B Side, then there'll always be a chance that if it's fine margins you need, then you may not get them.
Most of you never boxed a day in your life so you don't get what it truly means,at it's soul boxing is about heart and will,it's not a video game, and if you wanna become a champion then you should beat the champion cleary, not by a little bit,not a draw or a close fight, how you do in a fight is completely on you and you shouldn't be rewarded for almost doing something,in most gyms the term is don't leave it in the hands of the judges, only losers wanna be granted a win when they know they truly didn't

I've NEVER used that phrase and it has always been complete bs. Basically when someone uses that phrase, they are saying that the champ should get all close rounds on the scorecards and in every close fight, the champ should always win. It's an idiotic phrase that everyone started using to be followers

I agree with you. Always have. It's just an old saying. Nothing more.

Such a stupid post.

Be nice...maybe you'll get extra Geritol. It's obvious you haven't been around world class boxers in all your many years of shooting your mouth off

What about the "close rounds should go to the aggressor" rule? Are you also mad about that now, or does it only apply to the fighters you like?
Almost nobody ever says that while even so called experts often say that you must take the title from the champ stuff.
Are you serious? Every single Golovkin fan uses this excuse then switch up when it becomes inconvenient. They thought Golovkin should've been rewarded for moving forward and missing almost a third of his power punches in the first Canelo fight. You people do this all the time when your fighters look foolish against "runners". Don't be an hypocrite.

Limp wrist-ed pillow fighting artistes are impressed by doggie paddle punches landing on gloves and arms
Yes, I know it's corruption. I'm just explaining it for those who repeat this phrase.
Corruption is a matter of opinion. Professional sports are entertainment. Like pro wrestling, just a little less manipulated. If you want true sport, unfortunately it doesn't really exist.
I understand what you're saying and I agree with you, but what I'm explaining is that often in a very close round, the champion or star gets the benefit of the doubt, fair or not. No different than Michael Jordan or Lebron James getting fewer fouls called against them than others would and getting more fouls called against their opponents than others would.
It's a business. There is a lot of money at stake. It's important to protect the stars. You're looking at things in a very idealistic way and I understand completely. The powers that be however are motivated by money, not ideal.

As I already explained... that is already considered when the champion remains the champion in case of draw... so anything else is bull shiet.

In almost every sport, when something is close, the star or champion often gets the benefit of the doubt. It's in the best interest of all sports to protect stars. Stars are what attract the public. So fair or not, if you want to replace the previous star, you have to separate yourself and remove any doubt as to who is superior.
