The Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner fight, being planned for Jan. 19, would take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and be televised on Fox, according to the agenda for the Nevada State Athletic Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday. The agenda item reads, "Request by TGB Promotions, LLC, for a program permit to promote a boxing event to be held on January 19, 2019 at MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, NV, to be televised on Fox Sports." However, given the amount of money the fight could generate it's possible Fox would do the fight as a pay-per-view. TGB Promotions is the main promoter for Premier Boxing Champions, which is handling Pacquiao-Broner and has deal with Fox that kicks off in December. The agenda also includes date requests from TGB Promotions for cards at the MGM Grand to be televised on Fox for Feb. 16 and March 9.
THIS is a fight I've been calling for, for years. Perfect face/heel storyline, compelling matchup. Hope it goes down. Not an "important" fight but it sure will be fun.
People will tune in because they want to see manny beat Broner and Broner is going to do something ridiculous to get attention on the main stream. Plus hate him or love him people watch Broner.
Plus I’ll go to this fight because I never seen manny fight live and this fight intrigues me.
Huge mistake if they put it on PPV.
Manny's not a PPV draw anymore and Broner's mystique was long ago shattered. It's not a PPV. Nobody will pay PPV money for it.
However on regular TV it would do f**king outstanding. It would be huge on reg TV.
I remember how great it was seeing the Horn fight for free on ESPN (with a cable subscription of course), but that'd be even more great if it was free on Fox (even people with antennas would be able to watch it).
I don't think it would do huge numbers but 300 to 500k is probably easily achieveable with Fox backing it heavily and the names (Broner for as limited he is as a fighter does move the needle a decent amount, he is kind of like a new age Mayorga). Put on some decent under card fights for the fight fans and they will buy no matter what they say right now.
At 70 a pop that is between 21 and 35 million in extra revenue which gets cut down quick but even after half that is still 10 to 17 extra money floating around.
Still I could see Fox ponying up some extra bread to really get their boxing brand set off right and they can probably make some good ad revenue without having to cut in PPV.
I could see it being PPV or I could see Fox making that happen which may be something beyond what the budget would normally allow because that would kind of be a signature event, not that it is a really competitive fight because I think Manny is just a better boxer that Broner and Broner just won't be aggressive enough to really make anything happen but Broner is a big name (and big mouth) and Manny is Manny.
It would be the day before Fox has the NFC championship game too so you know they will sell the hell out of it during the playoffs and all their programming surrounding that.
Excellent, it would do good numbers on regular tv slot, not sure about PPV!
Maybe if this was 2012 Pac and 2014 Broner it would sell on PPV!
Still, it’s a fun fight in the ring and should be entertaining outside the ring as well!
Looking forward to it, hopefully we get Pacquiao vs Danny Garcia next or Pacquiao vs Porter
