That logic IMO supports the case of a Lara win lol. He's the one who actually landed punches, while Canelo mostly landed on Lara's elbows and forearms.
True. Check out Death Adder's sig for proof.
Canelo won 2 of the last 3 rounds once he started blocking Lara's flurries and scoring to the body....plus he never let Lara put that Cuban head lock on him and all that running by Lara was no longer strategic. 115-113 Alvarez.
canelo won 115-113
I thought Lara was outboxing him but he was too inactive at times so he gave rounds away. If lara was just a little more active he would've won.
This. Lara was winning, but he allowed Canelo to come on strong in the last third and take rounds because he thought he’d done enough. To me it was a classic case of a Cuban not understanding professional boxing culture, because they didn’t grow up in it. They don’t seem to realise fights aren’t scored on punches alone, like amateur contests - close rounds can be won by pressing the action. They also don’t seem to understand that professional boxers are expected to entertain and not do the minimum needed to win. This is coming from someone who was supporting Lara, and I’m not really a fan of Canelo. I was really frustrated, I respected Canelo for showing a champion’s grit to grind it out, but Lara threw it away by coasting. Similar to De La Hoya v Trinidad I suppose.
Ironically if you think Canelo won this fight then you have to think he lost the Golovkin fight because he fought the same way against Golovkin as Lara fought against him....
7-5 Ca$hnelo. One of the worst fights I've ever seen though.
After Ca$hnelo split Lara's eyebrow in the mid-rounds Lara ran like Fidel Castro was chasing him. Viva Fidel!
Viva El Comandante!
I thought Trout had a much more convincing win then Lara did.
No, not the way it played out. I thought Trout was winning early on but there was an open scoring system that night and the judges had Canelo up, by a lot. Trout, knowing the score, had to change his style and take some chances which did not go well. The decision was the right one but that is not to say that fight was fair.
I thought Lara won. He got penalized for back pedaling but Canelo didn't do anything to stop him from doing it and missed a lot of shots. I remember being disappointing in Lara that he didn't stand and fight because I thought he would do better if he did.
Canelo
Lara talked himself into the fight
Failed to back it all up and then compared himself to mayweather after getting backed up from body shots and spending the whole fight disengaging
Canelo hurt him to the body around the fourth or fifth round and the fight shifted to Canelo. Lara didn't throw enough in the last rounds. Very close fight though.
