I never heard of Heather Hardy before...
Is she a recognizable name in Boxing at all?
But I'm looking forward to see how she does in her MMA debut tomorrow on Bellator 180. New York native fighting at MSG for the first time. I just like seeing athletes cross-over, Boxing/MMA, Kicboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, etc.

Heather Hardy - "MMA is more evolved than Boxing... Someone needs to take initiative to make a change . That's what they did in MMA. And women are seen as athletes, not women... you can watch MMA fights with guys and you're not hearing them say 'oh they're so hot, look at her legs' but they're talking about her roundhouse kicks and her body-shots. It's just so much more evolved"
Did they just announce this the other day?
They need to promote Claressa more, she could be that *star*

You know, I think a big part of this is that sports in general are all marketed towards men and men compose the vast majority of the viewership.
If there were millions more females interested in these sports they could probably identify with women's sports better and grow all of those sports to make them much bigger.
But men usually just watch women's sports for the pretty women :)
I genuinely watch for the compelling stories/personalities more so than for the sex-appeal. There are other sources, or "hubs," for that.
The fights have to deliver too, of course.
pros let dem titties out.
Im with you...in this world of gender equality either the ladies fight topless or the men fight in these...

The problem is that it's overshadowed by the WMMA which is actually popular and interesting to watch.
Of course one the main appeals to WMMA is the apparel they wear is more revealing and thus appeals to a male dominated audience. Plus the rounds are shorter.
No one wants to watch 10 round Womens boxing fights between ugly women... If you're ugly you better be a Mike Tyson type that takes out fighters in 1 to 2 rounds.
Everyone's forgetting the true pioneeer of Women's MMA:
Gina Carano

Marloes Coenen = True Pioneer of WMMA

(debuted in 2000, 6 years before Gina)
But Gina is next level as far as sex-appeal goes. She's the exception, if anything. She's hot by any standard, not just "hot for a fighter."
Women should just **** off from combat sports altogether
They're so damn bad is comical.
Not their fault, though. women are just physically inferior compared to men, SHOCKINGLY inferior. not only in the strenght dept, in EVERY possible dept, reflexes, speed, dexterity, you name it
I have no interest in watching women competing in MMA when I know the lowest ranked male bum in the UFC would wipe the floor with all of them effortlessly
You had me at "Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate sit face..."
Again I don't know MMA but Miesha Tate is one of my favorites :D

Meisha Tate -- some of the most epic displays of heart in MMA history.. in victory and defeat...
Down 3 rounds, with time running out in the final round...
Let her arm be twisted and torn before tapping out..

I'm not into MMA but I'd watch them fight :)
It doesn't hurt to be good looking... (see: Gina Carano, Paige VanZant, Conor McGregor, Jon Jones)... but nobody's investing their time and effort to follow a sport just for a bit of T&A here and there.

Nope, Boxing is the Gentlemen's Sport.
This and jay's answer are the real reason.
Boxing as a look is far more manly than MMA. (Staying on your feet at all costs, restricting combat to punching, etc).
MMA looks far more womanly (kicking, grabbing, groundwork, fightwear, etc)
All of this is in accordance to traditional gender roles/stereotypes.
WMMA is big because...
1) it's MMA
2) of killers like Ronda, Cyborg, Joanna
3) there's a platform where you get to see the personalities, their stories, and invest in the fighters
The T&A thing doesn't hurt, but that alone doesn't carry an entire sport (unless its Beach Volleyball or something). You gotta be able to fight for us to care, you gotta be able to talk on top of that, to be a star.
All I'm sayin is...
