Yes, NFL,NBA dominates the American sporting world right now, but soccer dominates the British sporting world. So it's not like boxing was the #1 over there. Yet Joshua have become a household name and was wildly popular even prior to Wlad fight. How is this possible?
Was it strictly because of marketing? Maybe swap Joshua and Wilder and Wilder is the household name in England?
You make no damn sense...sissy.
Joshua recently fought one of Wilder's leftovers...his last fight was against an old guy coming off a loss and a long layoff.
Lamon Brewster whipped a prime Vlad.:bottle:
i know it makes no sense that was my point, I agree with you
Because nobody really care about boxing in the u.s outside of the Latino(Mexican, Rican). **** we know pacquaio because of his battle with Morrales, Marquez, Barrera and Oscar. It's the main reason why pacquaio and Floyd were draw since they beat many Mexican and Rican fighters. It's also the reason why all these heavier division don't draw down here.
Joshua has the best promoter in the world and a great platform in Sky. Hearn/matchroom has sussed online marketing, Joshua is all over twitter, instagram, sports bible (facebook), lads bible (fb) etc etc.
I dont think Americans really have a direct comparison to Sky Sports. Maybe ESPN? Outside of a few contendors like BT Sports, ESPN UK and Setanta, Sky dominated the UK sports market. Also, importantly, the UK sports news market. They can reach pretty much every sports fan between 15-50 in the country through the Sky Sports News channel/online/app, and these are the guys telling everyone when AJ is fighting, who he is fighting, how good he is, how good his opponents are etc etc.
He also won an Olympic Gold medal (however undeserved) in his home country/city. He was big news even before Hearn picked him up. Then you factor in the 100% KO rate, his marketability, and it all adds up.
He was suspended for testing positive.
Don't pretend you didn't know that.
Get your troll game up.
T/F wilder has yet to voluntarily fight a legit contender?
Edit: you're reading comprehension sucks...
If DW beats AJ, he's on his way. Not Saying he'll be as famous as Mike Tyson, but maybe pretty close if he can beat AJ.
Chicken legs would be lucky to reach Moorer status, forget about Tyson.
I just spent a week in Vegas and bumped into Gilberto Ramirez, Sergei Kovalev (P4P #1 in the World if he was awarded Ward fight) and Tito Ortiz.
I had 5 minute conversations with all three, it wasn't a quick selfy or anything, these guys were willing to talk and appreciated that I knew a lot about their careers.
The above experiences make me think that the mainstream of USA doesn't know these guys and only the hardcores, at very best, the casuals...hence why I think these guys had time for me.
The equivalent in the UK would probably get stopped every 1 minute for a selfy, so i just think there is a huge gap between the sporting mainstream in the UK and USA.
Not all people, markets, etc. are the same I guess. Though due to the USA being one huge market and population, garnering support from that very nice is still enough to make it the biggest boxing market in the World. When you think about it, the same goes for those other very niche 1% sports, like Rodeo, Speed Tractors, etc...if you are involved in those in the USA, you can still make many millions per year.
I'm American I had high hopes for wilder but after his refusal to fight a legit contender (povetkin was a mandatory) I've lost all the respect that I that. He clearly doesn't believe in his talent so why should I?
As posted in another thread expectations are very high and almost unrealistic for fighter here because we seen MANY great fighers so we don't just hype up or buy the hype for every fighter that comes along. In America fighters have just as much doubters as they do fans sometimes more doubters depending on the fighter.
The Cold Hard Truth? Wilder have done **** to make American Rally behind him! Kinda wasted the Network TV Exposure because he fought Inferior Opponents on Network TV
On the Positive side of things for Wilder, he still has time, only 31 and he has some Competition like AJ, Parker, Fury, Ortiz to make his ERA a great one. If he can beat those guys then it is no way he can be denied!
American fighters missing a Don King Larger than Life Personality to sell them and most of them cannot sell themselves all that great either! Not sure what happened to his Motivational guy but this was great for Wilder bring this guy back let him speak and his Pressers or something:
Boxing has been cashed out since the 80's with PPV and premium pay cable so it became a niche but a hardcore audience in the US. That's the core reason why things are the way they are in the US. That and the UFC's corporate and unified approach providing strong competition making it more difficult to grow the sport back up.
I also believe there's racial aspects. There really hasn't been a high level White American boxer in a long time, and HBO pushing eastern Europeans hasn't done the job. On top of that the country has trended towards White nationalism over the years I have been following boxing. There's no guarantee Wilder could ever win over these folks even if he was perfect. Certainly not without media backing which is one big fight away. There's only one big fight to make.
It seems once you done British gear and represent they are right behind you 100%. Look at Germaine Mason and Mo Farah.
Wilder is pretty popular in America fym?? Casuals have heard of him cause of his KOs and how he beat up Charlie it was all over tmz.. He's probably the most popular American boxer right now matter of fact and he hasn't even had a big fight.
Why did they ban A.K and for how long? Remember he needs to participate in the pick 'em game because I don't want to hear any complaints when I win.

The biggest name in boxing in America among the active boxers is Canelo, not even american.
Only hardcore boxers know who Joshua is in america. Most don't know who is the HW champion.
Nobody knows who Parker is
Brits are totally different fans.
Winning the Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medal at home certainly provided the huge platform for him to build off.
I'm sure had Wilder been from the UK, he would be just as popular or close enough.
joshya's a lot better, for starters.
he also won a gold medal at home. can't stress enough how much of a headstart that gives you.
he also doesn't shout bomb squad and make people mute the TV.
It's his out the ring media persona. He's seen as a good role model out the ring.
For example it was in the papers here today that he's just moved back in to his mums 2 bedroom ex council flat (kind of like a uk "project" ie govt funded estate) despite his 15mil pay packet
Funny thing is I have s colleague who went to school with him as a teenager and apparently he was an absolute bad egg. Not gonna slander the guy on here but either what in hearing isn't true or Eddie Hearn has done some mental pr job on the dude
Wilder on the other hand is clearly not a role model.
People are in denial about Wilder.
The punch that hurt Washington was a short precise shot.
...just like the one he almost killed Szpilka with....but to let them tell it...everything is a windmill.
Wilder brings speed and excitement to the divsion.
Joshua has yet to say Wilder's name.....he and his handlers don't want that brutal Baptism.
After the klitscko fight he was asked about Wilder he said if the fans want it he would....this is the best the heavyweight division has been in 20yrs. and there is only like 5 contenders total...LoL...with Wilder being one of course.
