what did he say? Basically that these are the risks that boxers take and you never know when or to whom it will happen. Also that the ref did not take control of the fight with all these rabbit punches. Common sense that has to be said

I remember watching the fight and thinking those rabbit punches were starting to add up, I thought the Ref did a horrible job. I feel bad for him and his family, good luck to them. Very tragic. You can see how he's doing here. Hard video to watch. Marquez was 100% correct with his comments

We don't talk about this enough IMO. When we denigrate fighters and call them cowards we obfuscate this side of the sport. People die, people get hurt, and anyone that steps into that squared circle deserves our appreciation. It happend do quickly too, he definitely looked like one of the future studs of the sport.

In fairness in the heat of battle people say & do f#cked up things. I've wanted & wished bad things on people in lesser moments out of negative emotions in the past, but I'd hate to have had my wants or wishes realized now in retrospect for the sake of those people & my own regrets if something bad did happen to them in that moment that I had wanted to happen. In my eyes the ref should've DQ'd Williams before things got as sh^tty as they did. Idk if that changes the ultimate outcome for Colon or not, but I think his chances woulda been a whole lot better. Also its worth noting that Williams hasn't fought in the year & a half or so since that fight so its not like he's walked away from this situation completely unscathed. I've been of the opinion that these sorts of incidents in boxing tend to end both guys' career more often then not. Not that that should be any consultation for anyone, but just saying these situations are often more complicated life situations that aren't easily dealt with for everyone involved. Yea I also tend to think this way myself when these super active competitive people get turned into guys lying in bed almost all day just watching the world happen in front of them. If Colon still has anything left from his former self he must feel like he's in a kind of prison living in that body now. And if he doesn't have anything left whats the point in keeping this person who's only their son, brother or whatever alive in physical form only? Probably just the illegality of ending ones own life in some cases I'd imagine & the lack of any documentation by boxers for how things should be handled if they ever get to the point they are in. Boxers should make wills or deals with family members to whatever extent they can when they are of sound mind. Just let me die if I'm not able to be who I am or if things get to the point they are with Colon just have some close sketchy cousin/relative or loved one agree to take me out with a OD of some drug/pill or whatever. Awful situation regardless doe & is just one of those things you tend to get used to happening in boxing from time to time as awful as that might be to get used to. I understand Williams did that out of frustration for getting hit with a hard, blatant low blow but it's still pretty symbolic that he did that, and then he actually did just that. Sad to see both Colon like he is, and Williams probably just feeling so guilty that he cut his career short and hasn't fought ever again after. That ref was so horrible, he deserves some blame. If the ref acted more sympathetic towards Colon's complaints about the rabbit punching, and done something about it, Colon may have still been talking and walking and even fighting today.

yeah but if he would have quit all you fa990ts would have said he is a quitter. when a fighter gets severly hurt you all say "oh thats sad" but when a fighter quits or runs away you POS say he is a quitter and all they do is run because they dont stand toe to toe when badly hurt. bunch of 2 faced fa990ts on here. stupid ducking boys. Sadly people were killing him after the fight he got booed and on these same boards everyone branded him a quitter for how it ended with cutting off the gloves and the confusion. This is before people knew how seriously he was hurt. SMH

Forgot to add I saw and chatted with Williams after the fight. A real nice genuine guy. His "cut throat" antics during the fight did not reflect the person I talked too.

Man I really pray for him and his family. I saw this fight live and I will never forget his ring exit walk. He looked incoherent and a women (mostly likely his mother) was holding his hand. I told my wife that he didn't seem right and might be having a medical emergency. I'm in the medical field and he had all the red flags of someone not medical fit during his walkout. One thing that still bothers me to this day is the fact the crowd was booing him during the fight and after the fight. People thought he was looking for a way out of the fight and just quit after his corner unknowingly removed his gloves after the 9th round. I hope he pulls through one day.

Guys: I have a 2 month old son. For the first time in my life I understand fully what those parents are feeling and all of my prayers go to them.

Rabbit punches are illegal but, IMO, these kinds of injury doesn't happen overnight. There could be some hard sparring prior to the actual fight. He could have something in his head before boxing.

Sad to watch. Those rabbit punches were criminal, and to think Williams was signaling the throat cutting and look what actually happened. Why keep him that way though? I'm sure his family knows that he's likely just suffering at this point, and they're all just suffering too. If he can send them some type of message i'd imagine it be to end his life.
