Interesting take on canelo's immigration heritage. I'm sure you all know most of the folks in the Americas did indeed come from elsewhere.
Meet canelo, the Irish, French Mexican!!I found this article to have an interesting take.

This is absolutely correct.
Except the bit where he says Canelo is probably close to 100% Spanish
He absolutely won't be for the reasons I stated in my earlier post
Also people are getting far too hung up on his red hair & pale skin. That is just one aspect of phenotype
Look at his facial features and that of his brothers
Obvious native American admix there. I'd say Canelo and his brothers are in the Castizo range...maybe 60-70% European, 30-40% Native American
huge amount of ignorance on this thread tbh
1. unless a Mexican or other Latin American has all 4 grandparents directly from Europe, they are very unlikely to be 100% Spanish or other European. Even the whitest looking Latino who has ancestry in the Americas that goes back more than a couple of generations will have some Native American and/or black ancestry
2. Majority of Mexicans including Canelo are a blend of European (mainly Spanish) and Native American
3. Look at Canelo's facial features. The high cheekbones, eyes...very obvious he has Native American admix, like almost all Mexicans
4. The red hair and pale skin, could be from Spanish ancestry. Although rare, you do get the occasional ginger Spaniard
5. Mexico being just south of the USA has had some gene flow from their Northern neighbour. It's not improbable that a great great etc grandparent of Canelo was of Anglo/Irish stock and introduced the ginger gene into his family
This is absolutely correct.
Yes hes on the money. Racially speaking, he is a white man. But America wouldnt consider him that as they only consider Anglo Saxsons white.
I had this ginger Mexican classmate in 5th grade. Looked like an All American white kid with freckles. He was from Tijuana and had a thick accent.
When people think of Mexicans they think of someone like Mikey Garcia or the lighter skinned Chavez type. Some Mexicans I've met even look like dark skinned Filipinos. Others look like Italian mobsters.
A lot more diversity in Mexico than people realize.
The american people see mexicans as the mikey garcia type and not the canelo type because thats what they see in their everyday lives, poor dark skinned mexicans who cross the border to make money. They dont see rich white mexicans because they have no reason to leave mexico, they live like kings. Latina American is very diverse. Its pretty much just like the US. The whites are at the top and everything else follows in line.
Whatever his ethnic or racial heritage, he is Mexican. That's his nationality, that's what he identifies with.
There are white Mexicans, indigenous Mexicans, mixed Mexicans, black Mexicans.
Most Mexicans are Mestizo (mixed indigenous w white). He's a light-skinned red-headed Mexican. So what? Whats the big deal?
(note: I don't doubt that part of his popularity is bc he is considered attractive in Mexico, due partly to colorism. But this is a boxing board. Shouldn't we just ne concerned about boxing?
He is from Guadalajara, a place noted for having a lot of European heritage.
There were red-headed Spaniards too. Sometimes the simplest explanation works.
In any case, I don't really care what his heritage is. Just want him to quit ducking GGG
"Hispanic" is not a racial group - it's just an ethnic label that is used to refer to people who come from Spanish-speaking countries in South, and Central America.
I suppose Brazil, to some extent may also be included despite being colonized by Portugal, and Portuguese being their native tongue.
MOST of the people we label "Hispanic" have their ancestry based in Spain, and a small amount of Amerindian blood (whatever group of Indians was native to the lands that the White Spaniards conquered back in the 1400-1500's).
Some are full-blooded Amerindian, although this is pretty rare.
Some families are actually 100% European. Most are prolly like 60/40, or 75/25 European Spanish.
There are small amounts of other Southern (and even Northern) European ancestry as well.
Canelo is probably pretty close too being 100% White-Spaniard. Red-hair is found all around Northern Spain.
If Canelo took a DNA test, he'd most likely find out 90+% of his ancestry is White/European.
For all intents and purposely, racially, Canelo is just as White as your average American with heritage mainly from Northern European countries.
Yes - Canelo is a White man. DEAL WITH IT.
This is absolutely correct.
Genetic studies have found that the Irish, Welsh, and Highland Scots are closely related to the Spanish.
... (...)
... they are called "celtiberians"...

Genetic studies have found that the Irish, Welsh, and Highland Scots are closely related to the Spanish.
"Recent research into Irish DNA at the beginning of the twenty-first century suggests that the early inhabitants of Ireland were not directly descended from the Keltoi of central Europe. Genome sequencing performed on remains of early settlers in Ireland by researchers at Trinity University in Dublin and Queens University has revealed at least two waves of migration to the island in past millennia. Analysis of the remains of a 5,200 year-old Irish farmer suggested that the population of Ireland at that time was closely genetically related to the modern-day populations of southern Europe, especially Spain and Sardinia."

Also, the Irish, Welsh and Scots all speak varieties of the Gaelic language which is thought to have originated in the ancient kingdom of Galicia, in Spain.
Imo, this is why Canelo looks like an Irishman. The Irish and Spanish are basically the same people, living in different parts of the world.
Authentic Mexicans have black hair and dark features. He's some off shoot of a half Mexican breeding with Europeans, hence the ginger hair and lack of heart.
