i keep hearing how great of an amateur he was, okay cool. Why didnt they throw him in at the deep end like they did Lomachenko and Rigondeux which imo, might be the only amateurs better than GGG.
you can name me better amateur if you want. I was a fan back then, ive had a few crap years where i havent been watching as many fights as i could.
But GGG is nearly 35. that means in 2010, when Sergio was beating the likes, and KO'd the likes of Paul Williams, and never ducked anyone at 154, and 160...
GGG was 27 years old, what was he doing? i wont look at he's boxrec, someone can tell me here.
I keep reading how good of a amateur he was, Lomo fights a champion in his first fight, Rigondeaux fights donaire who probs outweighed him 15 pounds fight night and breaks his face.
What was GGG doing then? Why didnt he fight anyone decent? im sure he could of got in with someone decent between 2008 and 2013.
he was 25+ and had boxed all his life.
Actually GGG should've fought Martinez before his fight with Cotto. Martinez knew he was done and just wanted a money fight so he ducked GGG.
I believe GGG was the mandatory because after that Cotto was mandated to fight GGG as well.
For the prime Martinez - no idea prob fighting in Germany praying for a Sturm fight
so basically he signed a contract with a crap promotional company?
thing is, seems like the real people in boxing knew who GGG was cause of olympics, amateurs, kovalev knew him.
im not sure thats good enough though, oh promotion problems, he was still fighting seems like, he has 35 fights. and why didnt a good promotional company sign him up? he was known by real boxing money makers and he seems to be making money now. why not 2010 though. who was he with?
Koba-Gronzy said it all. Here is an article to back up what he said.
http://www.boxingscene.com/bob-arum-explains-why-he-passed-on-signing-gennady-golovkin--109856
Koba also said GGG won't go down as an ATG, which looks unfortunatelty true.
On the flip side he came from middle class, rough mining town in Khazakstan.
Now US celebrities are a fan of him, including boxing enthusiasts worldwide. Tiple flop, Gaylovkin, Lil G doe
Martine ducked Pirog, not GGG.
GGG was pursuing Strum, but as said earlier in the thread he didn't have the money behind him to get someone good in the ring. His career was moving very slowly fighting nobodies in Germany; he wasn't yet on the level where he could realistically pursue a fight with Martinez.
By the time GGG fought Proksa, Martinez was at the very end of his career, he fought Chavez that same month.
thanks for the good information,
that all makes sense. he's got 2 good years now, not everyones hopkins. It could stop him from being higher up on the atg rankings at middleweight.
Yeah that's about right. Had he been able to fight Sturm in 2010 it may have made a big difference. Pirog in his US debut would have helped too - but those are the breaks. Lotta fighters just have bad luck, though in a way he has also been very lucky that HBO decided to get behind him. Anyways, yeah. Probably he's got 2 - 3 years max left at the top, and he's unlikely to go down as any kind of ATG unless he's matched real hard for his remaining years (and of course remains unbeaten).
lol..................what?
thats a disgusting decision if it is a Draw on the record.
he ko'd cintron and williams with the not looking left hand. called the gts.
Nathan Lewkowicz is a twitter nerd? He's VP of Sampson boxing prmotions, Martinez's Argentinian promoter. So Loeffler said Martinez never turned down a GGG fight. Martinez promoter said it was in Martinez contract to fight GGG if he beat Cotto but I'm supposed to believe a clown like you?
You riding two ducks real hard there bruh Martinez and cotto BOTH wanted no parts.
Martinez has the highest praise for GGG. He said about a year ago that GGG was by far the best middleweight in the world. GGG never ducked Martinez. He tried to fight him but Martinez said no thanks claiming GGG was not a big enough name. Then he fought guys with less of a name than GGG. GGG would have knocked Martinez out if they fought at any time. At different times Martinez lost to Paul Williams, was KOed by Margarito and fought to a draw with Citron. GGG would easily KO all three of those guys. Thanks for starting another pointless GGG hate thread. There weren't enough GGG hate threads on here.
Paul Willians GGG make it happen :)
GGG would not throw a hell mary like Sergio did haha.
a shame about williams, him and canelo would of been cool af too.

Truth be told these GGG fans dont know sh1t about him and refuse to even do their own research
Sh1t man - I was surprised no-one had answered the TS properly - I typed the essay above off the top of my head without checking any of the details and I'm far from a big Golovkin d1ckrider - least I hope so... :D
Signed with Universum in 2006 - which probably seemed like a good idea at the time (they promoted Euro MW kingpin Sturm and were a significant player). He was matched relatively tough early if you know the names but it turns out hit a glass ceiling around 2009 when Universum wouldn't match him with Sturm or their other name at 160 Zbik. Made it to mando for Sturms WBA title but the WBA instigated a new rule (apparently, but not certainly, purely for the purpose of getting Sturm out of harms way) allowing Sturm to become 'super' champ despite not being a unified champ. Golovkin declares his intention to leave Universum (now failing and also under suspiscion of numerous criminal or at least deeply shady activities) in 2010. Universum responds with litigation and Golovkin is banned from fighting in either Germany or the US. Sought other promoters in the US - TR for sure were approached but Arum refused due to the uncertainties of the ongoing litigation. Finally signed with K2 which is kind of unfortunate since they had basically zero US presence - but them's the breaks I guess. Settled with Universum in mid 2012... which is when he was picked up by HBO. The rest you should know. Maravilla was never really an option due to the timing.

Go back to school and learn the english language
idiot, cant stand people who want perfect punctuation when there is no girls about.
youre a fvking ***head understand? you understand what i wrote. bet im smarter than you.
Martinez was never the man at 160. Getting a gift decision against a drunk Pavlik and a lucky punch against Williams doesn't make a champ. He spent 3 years on the run, doing everything he could to avoid a fight with Chavez.

Agree with most things except:
fought to a draw with Citron
Did you see that fight?

There was genuine talk of the GGG fight from 2012 onwards, some idiots even stated Martinez was ducking him (the same idiots who now hate GGG) but it just wasnt realistic. GGG was not a known commodity. I think he first fought on HBO aroudn 2012.
Martinz v Chavez was THE fight to be made. Sadly after that, Martinez had to come through surgery and had that very tentative performance against Murray and rightly deserved to win. However, everyone could tell he was no longer the same. Martinez eventually took the Cotto payday over (the now) viable GGG fight. We all know how that ended.
So, all in all, there was an absolutely tiny window when the fight could have happened but instead Cotto got in the way. If Martinez's knees had held up then we may have gotten the GGG fight after Cotto.
