News of a celebrity boxing match within the last few days have seemed to put Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather against each other.
Who do you think had a better resume?
Tyson Wins - Notable Wins
Tyrell Biggs
Larry Holmes
Michael Spinks
Trevor Berbick
Tony Tucker
Bonecrusher
Floyd Mayweather - Notable Wins
Oscar Delahoya
Canelo Alvarez
Shane Mosley
Manny Pacquiao
Miguel Cotto
Diego Corrales
Mayweather and it ain't even close. Mayweather never lost and he never quit and he was never knocked down. Tyson lost many times. He was knocked down and knocked out several times and he quit several times in my opinion.I think he could have beat the count against Douglas. Instead he stayed on the canvas chasing his mouth piece. In the 2nd Hollyfield fight the ref told Tyson if he bit Hollyfield again he would be disqualified. Tyson immediately bit him again thereby ending the fight. I believe he could have continued against Lewis but chose not to beat the count and stay down.
I think Tyson was an unbeatable monster for about 2-3 years. Obviously Floyd's career dwarfs Iron Mike's.
There are some factors to consider here though as well. Tyson fought at HW which of course is a much more difficult jungle to negotiate from a physical damage standpoint than 140-154. Also there are much more talented fighters at those weights to build an elite resume upon.
Plus Tyson was a short, pressure puncher. Guys like that (Frazier, et al) always seem to have shortish careers compared to the taller boxer punchers like Floyd who lasted for years solely on his defense..
Its not more difficult at HW its easier, the pace is wayyyyyy slower and the skills are not near as polished, little guys get hit a lot more than HWs and the power to size ratio is about the same as you go up in weight, the premier weight classes where the greatest fighters have been is LW to MW because that is the power speed skills sweet spot for man.

He was really good but again goes back to who did he beat in his prime and how long did he last.. Joe had a relatively longer peak compared to Mike but let's face it, Joe is #3 man coz Ali and Foreman were the top guys above him and one of the best HW era.. A Tyson who peaked early did was twice removed from his best when he met the next set of elite guys like Holyfield..
Tyson was good.. But people live in their own bubble by saying a prime Tyson would have KO'ed him, obliterated that guy blah blah.. Give it up already, Mike was good at his peak & he didn't even last long..
Mayweather's resume >>>> Mike Tyson..
Is that Karl in your sig?

I wonder what iron mikes resume would have looked like if cus lived say 5 years longer and kept him on the straight and narrow
Guy was a wrecking machine when dedicated and disciplined
Tyson had to fight guys who were 15-20lbs heavier than he was throughout his whole career
Thats like Mayweather fighting SMWs when he was a WW
So its unfair to compare both fighters resumes, completely different dynamic when youre a heavyweight.
That's a terrible comparison completely missing weight percentages. Tyson fighting guys 15-20 pounds bigger is more like Mayweather fighting someone a division and a half bigger, or maybe even just a division. Which, oh wow, he did 5 f*cking times by moving up to higher divisions.

Mayweather and it's not even remotely close. Not even a little bit. You could take away Mayweather's top 5 wins and he'd still have the better resume by far.

Tyrell Biggs
Larry Holmes
Michael Spinks
Trevor Berbick
Tony Tucker
Bonecrusher
Floyd Mayweather - Notable Wins
Oscar Delahoya - Shot and semi retired.
Canelo Alvarez - Weight drained. green at the elite level
Shane Mosley - washed up and old
Manny Pacquiao - See above. Plus injured. Plus Floyd was on PEDs
Miguel Cotto - past prime and ill prepared
Diego Corrales - ok, this is a good one
Mike Tyson's resume is better simply because he fought those opponents while they were in their primes (aside from Holmes) and without any unfair advantages and coward shenanigans and he won in spectacular fashion most of the time.
Floyd is a fraud who needs everything stacked in his favour and he still fights like a *****, and mostly fought tailor made no hopers, always protected by biased judges, bodyguard referees and a crooked USADA
It wouls seem the only difference is the eras they fought in....Tyson fought in an era where boxers fought champions wether they were aftraid or not....their avenue to greatness was through winning and unifying belts....not determined by who won the most money. Back then fights were essentially made or controlled by the sanctioning bodies not the promoters and tv networks. In todays era its easier to build a name resume based on the timeline with which you fight fighters. As people have stated before....could floyd have won all of his fights if he had taken them at different times? Danny Williams has Tyson on his resume....Joe Smith has b-hop....do those names make their resumes more impressive....unlikely in anything other than when they are reminiscing at their local bar for free drinks. Stupidity to think lewis win over tyson was worth anything regardless of how great lewis actually was. The only serious blemish on Tysons record is the loss to Buster Douglas simply because he should have won. No doubt and no excuses. Everyone before that deserved their shot and got blitzed. Ultimately....regardless of their resumes...one of them revived..enhanced and brought excitement to boxing....the other gave us the disjointed diva ridden niche sport we have today. Give me Tyson over mayweather everyday.
Well with the exception of the Spinks fight, which should be included. Yup. He lost his biggest fights against certified HOFers.
Spinks was a blown up Light-Heavyweight wasn't he?
I know he had fought at HW and won titles before the Tyson fight but Floyd and other guys get those kind of wins totally discredited by some people.
tyson lost his biggest fights. all 3 of them.
