Yes Thurman is a bigger guy than Matthysse and a better boxer but I don't think he has anywhere near the fear factor Lucas had at the time and he has also contrastingly shown weakness. I personally believe DSG will win as he always finds a way and imo performs best on the backfoot where he can counter an oncoming opponent. What do you guys make of this fight and is it Garcia's toughest fight to date?
Lucas is an easy fight for the top guys, he is a club styled fighter and as he's shown can be persuaded to loose interest.
Thurman has boxing skills plus he is an awkward style, very herky jerky and is capable of throwing unorthodox punches.
He has decent power and shows good conditioning when he fights.
I think this is a competitive match with two young men who try!

Don't know why people say Thurman is big. He's actually only 5'7.5" and one inch smaller than Garcia, who is 5'8.5". Jessie Vargas is 5'10" and Spence is 5'9.5".
thurman started his career at around 150 lbs
danny started his pro career about 8-10 lbs lower than thurman started his. so did matthysse.
mike tyson was only about 5'10.5 or 5'11. are he and jesse vargas the same size, or shoudl we be more concerned about the weights at which they campaign and fight?
Garcia was bigger than Matthysse. Garcia, I believe, was beating smaller men at 140. Now he is in real trouble, facing a big welterweight.

so he's bigger than matthysse, but he's now in trouble because of the size of a guy one weight class higher?
you're talking about a very small difference in size between danny and matthysse, whereas keith thurman was at 154 for a period in time, the way porter was, and is a big WW. while i do agree that danny is a bit larger than matthyse, it's not by a lot. not near a weight class at the time that they fought, at any rate. certainly not enough that people were crediting danny with a big advantage in size, or that you could see it in the ring.
LOL, it went from Garcia was never going to fight Lucas to he is going to get killed to he was the bigger man on fight night.
Thurman is a better mover with power and Danny is a dedicated body puncher.
given his size, yes. matthysse and danny are just about the same size. thurman is a strong welterweight.
but matthysse was on a very good run at 140 and was one of the best 25 fighters in the world at the time. p4p matthysse had the better wins. he'd knocked out and dominated peterson, which is a better win, p4p, than struggling with shawn porter. peterson looked very good beating amir khan. then matthysse destroyed him. we knew he could bang with the right hand, but that left hook came out of nowhere and ended the night of a typically durable, world class fighter.

Surely this is the toughest fight for both guys I rate Danny Garcia just above Shawn Porter I think stylistically Danny could give Keith a lot of problems because I do highly rate Danny's chin and his heart his ability to find a way to win with slick boxers isn't that good but good thing for Danny boy is Keith Thurman isn't that slick.
This one is a toss up too bad it's not happening this year, too bad we have to wait near half a year to get it, it could have easily happened this December If Danny wasn't so content fighting nothing fights.
yeah he does, easily. im calling it as it is, everyones sitting on the fence as usual, saying its going to be close, danny has a chance etc. he has no chance and its going to be nowhere near as difficult for thurman as the porter fight was.
Here is another question for you...How does Collazo fairs against the Zab that Danny beat? Also who's the cherry picker here, Soto Karass, Collazo, & Julio Diaz all had a combine record of 23 loses! wehn they fought Thurman...MURDERERS role...huh???
thurman is twice the fighter matthyse was. would alexander, judah, postol beat him? Hell no
A washed up faded 3 years later Judah gave Garcia hell. Do you even watch boxing? Cause you certainly say it as if Garcia hasn't fought Judah. Wouldn't surprise me if you didnt even know that.
And I wouldn't be so sure about the bold either.
This is a unification bout and the judges know what's at stake. This ain't going to be a Herrera or Peterson bout. Thurman is very heavy handed, and the contact will be apparent even when Garcia guards up. What makes Thurman dangerous for Garcia is both hands are heavy on quick combos. I will bet Garcia is going to respect Thurman's power. I can see if they slug, for when Garcia hail marys the hook Thurman will absorb it well and fireback even quicker than many will expect.
Thurman hits hella harder than Matthysse any day. Different class. If Molina could drop Lucas with overhand hailmakers its an easy canvas flooring for Thurman. Imo Diego Chaves is hella slicker than Matthysse. We all saw what happened.
I also believe Garcia was fighting smaller guys at 140 and now for the first time he's fighting a guy that is stronger than him.
Still we have the Garcia factor, which means you never know 100% what's gonna happen, but I say it's 65% 35% for Thurman, and I want Danny to win.
Thurman has power but he couldn't hurt Porter while Broner could, that tells you he might not be that heavy handed.
thurman is twice the fighter matthyse was. would alexander, judah, postol beat him? Hell no
Hmmm...not to sure about that. All those guys mentioned are smaller than Thurman meaning they fought at a lighter wgt. The question is does Thurman easily beats the same Zab that Garcia beat?
Thurman vs Porter was a close fight. And that was the closest fight Keith was ever been in. So any game plan that is Thurman-related should be based on that fight.
Not necessarily; there are different points that can be picked up, but to base your whole gameplan off of one fight is silly.
Chaves, Guerrero, Collazo, Porter, Bundu (to see what can be done to negate things) are the fights that should be picked at.
Exactly how Peterson, Herrera, and Matthysse are the fights to peep against Danny.
Absolutely, Matthysse probably hits just as hard if not harder than Thurman but the problem is he's so small and not a real pressure fighter so it allows Danny to clinch him and beat him to the punch since he has shorter reach as well!
Garcia won't be able to do that with Thurman who is bigger, stronger, moves better, and has a better jab that Matthysse!
Lucas just had that aura, KO power, precise punching, good body puncher, and an amazing motor!
Still I give Danny a helluva shot, he's a really good and underrated body puncher, and if Thurman comes in thinking he can come forward against Garcia cuz he's the bigger man then he'll be in for a rude awakening!
