I'm not including guys like Marvin Hart who have no footage of their fights(or very little). Martin won a title without landing a significant blow and has fought nobody until this "win". I'm not even sure he could beat a prospect like Ruiz or Brezeale.
this.
martin is one of the most unproven titleholders i've ever seen, but i'm really not all that concerned with the different belts of different colored leather, the diamond royal mega-belt, box offs for the regular WBA big boy belt, etc.
fury is the champion. he beat the guy who beat the guy
povetkin and wilder are his two top contenders, and they're going to fight soon by the look of it.
In a sport lacking meaningful match ups, this HAS to happen.
These are the days of having 4 so called world heavyweight champions at the same time. That is 4 times the chances of some mediocre boxer being called the heavyweight champion of the world. Martin looks very average to me. Maybe he is a heavyweight champion that pesky Briggs can actually beat.
That's the problem with multiple titles. Guys who should never even get close to a title, end up getting them and diminishing the quality.
...I thought growing up watching boxing in the 90s was bad...unification didn't happen a lot then unless it was a super fight
3 orgs
Now it's 4 with silver bronze reg belts...smdh
Guys eubanks, benn, calzaghe made the wbo but it didn't matter at all til recent years
A global/unified commission is overdue
I'll give him one title defense. He looked painfully average in the fight. Sadly, I think he's signed to Al Haymon so, if Deontay Wilder serves as an example for us, Charles is gonna get a couple light touches before he gets fed to the wolves.
he's a light touch himself. from what i've seen, all he is is big. very little experience. doesn;t look hugely powerful, fast, skilled, etc.
unless they try and get him in there with somebody out of the top 25 i think he's got a good shot of losing his title in whatever fight he takes.
Probably but stop calling these guys champions, there's only one champion and that's Fury. All the rest are contenders until proven otherwise but even in that sense, Martins is one of the worst ever.

Stiverne should be in the conversationStiverne at least withstood fire against Cristobal. I guess if he defends his belt against somebody that isn't a hand picked stooge he won't be the worst champion ever but if he gets blown away in his first defense the case against him will be damning.
The early eighties were pretty bad too. Maybe there was someone comparable to him back then.
I honestly can't imagine anyone ever having done less to become a heavyweight 'champ' though. Martin can't be blamed for it but the situation is ridiculous.
I had a similar thread... the points in mine by the diffrent posters were alot better than in here...but to answer your question without a shadow of a doubt the answer is yes!!!!! Martin is terrible. some people are just not good at there jobs. and Martin is one of them. he flat out sucks and his skills make me want to vomit seriously....Martin is proof that any normal individual can become champion with haymon as there manager.
I wanted to make this thread a few days ago.. Yes IMO he is. I mean we haven't seen to much from him. In ring he looked horrible IMO, stiff and without character. Outside the ring he is even more boring. It was painful to watch the post fight interview.
But for now, I will give him the benefit of the doubt - lets see him actually fight someone first. If he loses his next fight he will be one of, if not the, worst heavyweight titleholder unless he fights one of the better guys in the division.
I'm not sure if he's the worst ever because there have been some pretty bad champions throughout history. I don't think he is that impressive from the little that I have seen from him. One thing is for sure, the entire Heavyweight division will be gunning for him seeing as though he is the perceived weakest link in the division.

He wouldnt last 5 rounds with Bruce Seldon

True....as simple as it is, why don't people apply the same logic in regards to other divisions n fighters
Not matter our preference, the man who beat the man is champ.
