Did anyone see Sulaiman in the ring after the Wilder fight? I do not remember seeing him. Sulaiman is in the ring after EVERY WBC title fight and if he did not show for this one, that does not look good for the relationship between PBC and WBC.
Speaking personally at least it went quite the other way. I followed his career from the Olympics and at first counted myself as a fan. As time went on he was clearly a fraud.
I just don't know what you would really thought he was going to become. Dude was horrendous as a pro fighter at the beginning, so much so that it was always going to be 5 years at least before he would start looking like a pro fighter. He does look a like a pro now, he has flaws still but he fights to his strengths. He was never going to be this master boxer that had all the facets to his game, he was always going to be a guy that would have to maximize his strengths and role with that until he crapped out.
Chances were at the beginning he wouldn't amount to anything at all and wouldn't even get to a guy like Stiverne especially since popular opinion is that a stiff breeze would knock him out.
I still get not thinking he will be the man, but I don't understand your road at all.
At least he has proved to be better than Seth Mitchell and Cris Arreola as far as American Heavyweight Prospects go. Great fight to watch for the average viewer and up. I hope he brushes up on his Defence. there were more than a few scary shots he took in that fight. I'd like to see him take this somewhere. He's got undeniable talent.. for 6'7" I can't remember the last guy that big who could fight on the inside maybe like a Riddick Bowe...
What talent? His physical advantages are the ones carrying him right now against not-so-top-level opponents. Talent and skills are not his strengths.
better than what you thought he was? wow you must of aimed pretty low then hahaha, he fought like **** are you serious???
yea kangaroo punching (wtf) against a way lesser opponent, jumping all over him while hes holding his guard up thinking wtf then getting the ref stop the fight for you, yea... very impressive, the fight shouldnt of been stopped in my opinion, wilders loony excited movement give the impression his opponent was in serious trouble.
such sloppy technique, footwork (he gets walked down easy, leans on ropes too much), the guy is a awful boxer, he relies on his power too much, a serious boxer would expose him.
fury, povetkin, wlad would beat him in my opinion, i even think jennings or eddie chambers would give wilder a extremely hard fight and possibly win.
I hated his showboating antics.
I did think the stoppage was proper though.
The guy was spent and was taking a major beating.
Totally agree.
I think he is a better than i thought he was. Lots of positives from that fight. And to finish so strongly in the 11th round was very impressive.
Wilder vs Wlad would be a the first real exciting HW fight in a very very long time.
Anything could happen in that fight.

What I don't get about Wilder is that there are a ton of people who have held in low regard for his whole career, yet they seem to hold him to a very high standard.
If you thought the dude was garbage at the beginning which was pretty much everyone, then he has clearly exceeded those expectation and deserves a bit of praise for actually making something of his career. He hasn't been getting that much hype until recently (the last year really).
I can understand not being huge on Wilder or not thinking he is that great or will get beat by Wlad or Povetkin. just people take it so far and when it comes to Wilder they throw praise around like it was a manhole cover.

Drop the belt and start fighting 4 or 5 times a year against top 15/25 contenders. There's room to improve.
duhaupas is in the top 25. Boxingrec is not a legit ranking & NO HW in the world fights that many times in one year against top 15-25 guys. although duhaupas did fight 3 top 20 guys in 5.5 months. Most top 10 guys only fight top guys twice a year.
Because those rankings are very credible...

duhaupas was WBC #11 after beating Charr. Has to be WBC top 15 to be considered for a title shot. Wilder almost fought #14 fujimoto...

I've followed Wilder since he went pro and I've been very critical of him; I also recognize and give him credit when credit's due. Last night Wilder gave impressive performance, probably his best.
Wilder's offense is much more versatile and varied. He threw the jab very well, all his punches were cracking, he's throwing (and landing) uppercuts and body shots that he didn't throw before and he showed that he can fight on the inside. Also, Wilder's physicality was on display last night; he leaned on Duhaupas, pushed 'em and man handled him at times - there was a stanza where Wilder was leaning on Johan, on the ropes, and then he busted out with a barrage of uppercuts.
If I'm in Team Wilder, the fight's outcome was the best case scenario that could happen. You had a tough gritty determined and experienced opponent take Wilder into the later rounds, landing some decent shots, damaging his eye and making him have to work for the KO. Perfect fight for Wilder to practice and showcase some stuff he's been working on in the gym and giving fans an exciting fight.
Now let's bring on Povetkin....:boxing:

Its funny watching standards dip lower every single time because Wilder keeps failing to live up to expectations.
So much damage control.
Its funny, its like Dahaupas suddenly became this unstoppable tank brigade instead of a guy that got beat by Francesco Pianeta. :lol1:
Using this logic...
Klitschko>Pianeta>Dahaupas>Wilderto be fair to Duhaupas & Pianeta they were both 17-0 prospects when they fought each other. You don't see American HWs doing that very often. Chazz Witherspoon & Arreola was the last time that happened. 2 guys who were decent prospects at the time.

Let us put this in a proper context.
Here is a WBC belt-holder fighting someone who not even ranked in top 20 fo two consecutive bouts.
So some here are praising Wilder for a fight that is on the level of a stepping-up for prospects.
duhaupas was WBC #11 after beating Charr. Has to be WBC top 15 to be considered for a title shot. Wilder almost fought #14 fujimoto...
Imo wilder would win because joshua's no defense & no head movement would be the reason.
Joshua does have defense. He has better technique and more power than Wilder.
