@ChrisMannixSI: Fight being talked about for @SHOsports fourth quarter: Ruslan Provodnikov-@AmirKingKhan. Sign me up for that one.
Sign me up too. What a fight, Provodnikov can be outboxed but he's relentless and is deceptively quick at closing distance and almost always gets to his opponent at least once. Can Amir stay on the outside all fight without getting lured into a brawl? As that type of fight will only have one winner.
Ruslan hasn't looked good in recent years so for him to get a big name like Khan is HUGE for him.
Khan get's possibly the toughest available fighter style wise out their which will elevate this to a must see fight.
Overall, great for both of them.
Tough fight to call due to Khan's chin.
I would love to see this fight but I don't see it happening ruslan is too dangerous and khan will not mess up his chance at getting a big money fight by getting knocked out by ruslan.
This guy will never fight a top 10 WW ever in his life, but a top 3 JWW puncher is okay. Still, Provodnikov is 1-2 in his last 3 fights which continues Khan's trend of fighting guys on the slide. A supposed top 10 WW who refuses to fight other top 10 WW's, and keeps his top 10 ranking by beating JWW's like Algieri, Molina and now possibly Provodnikov. I'll be rooting for Provodnikov to knock the teeth off Khan's mouth so we can stop talking sht about other top 10 WW's and why he won't fight them.
Provodnikov has challenged for a World title at 147 against Bradley for his WBO version.
Yeah 147 is Kryptonite to Bradley too :lol1:
Which is why he fought something like 1 in his entire career in Chaves, and despite winning, was damaged after the fight.
Khan's ducking of Kell Brook is becoming shameful, he can't use the Mayweather line any longer, he's avoiding the Battle of Britain because he knows a loss would devastate his pride.
He went for a guy coming off multiple losses and a former training partner. I really do hope this one comes back to bite him in the ass, and it very well may be the case.
Prov isn't the most skilled but he is hard as nails, and that's half of what you need to beat Khan right there. As long as the ref doesn't allow Khan to do that push and hold bull****, Prov should have no problem walking right through him. This would make for a great fight, let's hope there's some substance to it.
This is a dangerous fight for Khan. Ruslan has all the attributes that in theory, should trouble Khan. Pressure fighter who keeps coming forward, can punch, has a good chin.
He's basic skill wise, lacks defense and head movement, which should allow Khan to use his speed to box and move. Can he keep Ruslan off him for 12 rounds though...i'd doubt it. An interesting fight IMO.
except he throws punches from outer/middle range, has significantly shorter arms than khan, doesn't counter-punch, and doesn't cut off the ring well. don't get me wrong, i love the siberian rocky, but he just got bashed up badly one full division below the one khan will fight him at. when will khan face a real welterweight on good form? brook and thurman are dying to fight him
Lucas could somewhat halt Ruslan coming forward because of his power. (Even then though Ruslan was able to hurt Lucas several times late on.)
Khan doesn't have the pop to keep Ruslan off IMO, even Algieri was able to walk Khan down with some success.
I'm a Khan fan, but i don't think he has the ability to keep a cool head and think straight when under constant pressure. I wouldn't bank on him being able to use his size advantage to keep Ruslan at bay, especially when Ruslan has no repect for Khan's power coming in.
Not that i don't give Khan a chance to win, as i do, a good chance. I just think the 2 styles make for a fun fight..and one that is dangerous for Khan.
Either Ruslan gets to Khan early, hurts him and finishes the fight; or Khan puts on a disciplined, sharp display and gets the points win.
Either way i'd imagine we see a competitive and entertaining fight...and one i'd love to see.
This reminds me of Bradley Rios, and maybe Brook Chaves (I don't really know Chaves). Fun fights but that will do little to raise the stock of the favorite if he wins.
Can't believe people are trying to put this fight down and trying to twist it to discredit Khan. This would be a stylistic nightmare and also a very hard puncher. Some of you who admittedly don't like Khan acknowledge that this deserves applause whereas others are just proving how much of an emotional hater they really are. To outpoint Ruslan you have to go to hell and back, who's beaten him easily? So how is it an easy fight, you clearly think of Khan so highly.
Also, Eddie Hearn and Brook were seriously considering fighting Provo however they said he wouldn't have been ready for September. Ruslan>Chaves. You can argue otherwise but Chaves hasn't beaten anyone when he stepped up and he won his interim title against a guy like 13-11, tough challenger but extremely unproven. Don't **** on this fight and praise Brook-Chaves, both tough fights but one has been promising you Bradley and Marquez and the other is "finally" considering fighting a puncher.
.... who has Provodnikov beaten worth anything? Say what you want about the choice, Ruslan, on multiple occasions, has shown that he can be neutralized behind a good jab and effective use of space; whether Amir Khan has the mental fortitude to stick to the plan for the full twelve rounds is on him.
There's no need to trash the matchup, but there isn't anything in the matchup that would have praising it either. It's 'meh'
He also damn near turned out Matthysse's lights in the 11th and did his share of damage despite taking that beating. Whatever his limitations, Provodnikov gets to everyone he fights at some point. Khan isn't a great boxer capable of going 12 without Ruslan getting to him. At some point he will and it would prove something if Khan takes those punches or survives them once hurt.
Khan can prove something by beating Provodnikov, something he needs to prove considering his opposition since Garcia stopped him. This is a good fight.
we don't even know if provo is still the same fighter after the last fight. if he had gotten a good win at 147 lbs and then khan signed to fight him, i would have zero complaints. but as it stands, if khan is to be regarded as a top welter, then he needs to beat someone who is (a) a real 147 lber and (b) not coming directly off of a bad loss. to me this fight is just another time-buying tactic from khan, albeit not without risk (because he knows he would be crucified for fighting another collazo or algieri). khan's career in the last few years has been all promise and no delivery. at least brook beat porter who was a real welter on good form
It's an incredibly entertaining fight that the fans and the networks will love to have. The whole world would pay and watch a Khan vs Provodnikov fight. However as a Khan fan, i feel he should be fighting top 5 elite Welterweights at this stage of his career. Khan should fight Manny Pac, Thurman or Garcia. I know Angel Garcia has said he will never take the Khan rematch and manny is with Arum but why can't the Thurman fight be made?
except he throws punches from outer/middle range, has significantly shorter arms than khan, doesn't counter-punch, and doesn't cut off the ring well. don't get me wrong, i love the siberian rocky, but he just got bashed up badly one full division below the one khan will fight him at. when will khan face a real welterweight on good form? brook and thurman are dying to fight him
